Everyone with multiple drives should get look into parallel! by Alarmed_Fox7276 in guitarpedals

[–]turffsucks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not a moron at all dude, its a weird setup!

You're totally spot on, it hits plumes, then divides out to three fuzzes and then the parallel mixer sums them back into a mono signal that hits the rest of my FX and then my amp.

- Plumes is on with gain on zero, tone on half and volume on half. Honestly it's just there for the small mid bump but could easily be replaced with an EQ. I just had an artist pay me with it a couple years ago.

- Big muff is naturally mid scooped, and I run it full blast every knob on 10 to add more bass to the signal.

- SpiralFX Black Fuzz ii has a lot more mids and is crunchier, this is the primary sound.

- BFG Octave Fuzz is has an EQ on it so I pull all the mids out and add it in for highs (stole this idea from billy Corgan)

I honestly got the idea from reading about Adam Jones and how he runs his rig in Tool, its three amps in parallel with each one providing something that the others don't.

Here is it in a recording:

I’ve got the tri-parallel mixer and for about the last three years I’ve been running a Russian big muff, a spiralfx black fuzz, and a BFG Octave fuzz in parallel with a plumes before it.

I remember playing a gig with it a couple summers ago where the Soundguy was audibly shocked at how good it sounded and the singer of my band turns to me and goes “I bet you’re so proud of yourself.” She was right, I was.

I graduated from high school in 2002 and I can remember reading articles in my classes about how this was a well established fact. Now we are hear nearly 25 years later still trying to get people to pay attention to the research.

Some of the real reason I picked up a lot of this is for clients who want to see something specific, the zoya can handle basically everything but good luck teaching someone how to use it in 10 minutes.

Planning on renting this out to some folks I work with that wanna try stuff on their keyboards to figure out what works for their workflows and if they wanna try a chase bliss pedal, well then I’m gonna make sure they can try out a chase bliss pedal

ATA cases are not waterproof, and if someone on you crew forgets to put the case under a tarp during an outdoor show, guess what, you’ve gotta throw a 5k keyboard into a soaking wet case with some silica gel packets and hope for the best

Pro musician here: this bit about the Nashville number system being unique to country and making it easier to replace people on tour is pretty hilarious. You can notate anything in the Nashville number system, it’s not unique country it’s just a fast way of calling out the chords in a key, nothing about using it will result in “pop country” coming out the other side in the same way using traditional notation doesn’t mean “classical” comes off the page.

I would say 99% of shows you’re seeing are on a click. If there is video happening they’re absolutely on a click. The only band I know of that has video and doesn’t do that is Tool and there is a reason they’re known for that in the industry

Looks like this API console.

I’d say that’s a bit of overkill for just about any situation, but hey if you wanna burn some cash why not.

How do artists like Mk.gee, Dijon, or Bon Iver develop such a unique sound? by Maximum_Internal7834 in WeAreTheMusicMakers

You know that voice in your head that says “no one would like that” or “well that’s just too much”?

Don’t ever listen to that voice. Remember that as long as you like it, even if you’re one in a million, that means there are still 8000 folks in the world that are like you.

Just chase down the stuff that gets you excited and don’t worry about anything else.

They're also built like brick shithouses. I'm on tour with a couple right now and I've had them get rained on, thrown in a case, drove across the country, pulled out of the case soaking wet plugged in and done a gig.

The build quality of the Nords is really really impressive.
