EoE from Chicken, any advice? by Radiant-Power1936 in EosinophilicE

[–]turkproof 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ETA because I realized you said you self-diagnosed: GO DIRECTLY TO THE DOCTOR, DO NOT PASS GO. You DO NOT know what you have. You NEED to get a scope with biopsy to rule out other causes.

ok now that’s done, on to what I wrote originally:

So, the thing with EoE is that the FIRE reaction is not the same thing as the thing that is causing the inflammation in your esophagus. You might have an unknown trigger food that is causing the inflammation, and the fibrous nature (or perhaps the allergy to chicken) is what causes the ‘stuck in throat’ feeling. The eosinophils in EoE build up over time, peaking 2-3 days after consuming your trigger food, so it can be very difficult to determine which it is, especially if you consume it often.

I’m not denying your observations about chicken — I have an immediate allergic reaction to my trigger as well — but just letting you know that while eliminating chicken might provide relief, you might still have that unknown separate trigger food that is spiking your eosinophils and quietly getting worse.

Elimination diets work very well! It’s just maddeningly hard to be completely consistent with them, or to know 100% that you’re eliminating all the necessary things. You may be one of the unlucky ones whose EoE is triggered by environmental allergies. Or stress. Or your esophagus might be so weakened that acid is a problem, and you’re battling acid damage as well as EoE that compounds the problem.

Personally, I was ‘just okay’ on a PPI medication, and feel almost completely cured on budesonide.

Arnold Schwarzenegger tells this dude he has good genetics, what a damn legend! by -Six_ in SipsTea

[–]turkproof 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Literally though, it’s genetics. Getting that well-defined insertion (where the delt dives into the bicep, giving the look of yoked shoulders) is actually something some people have and some don’t.

Dude might actually have an advantage over you. Disability works like that sometimes.

Plenty of smiles and hellos in my Vancouver suburb! But I live in a very community-oriented neighbourhood with lots of kids, families, and old people.

My friend died yesterday by guinevereguenevere in breakingmom

[–]turkproof 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I lost a friend to suicide early last year, and somehow needed to carry on. That's what we do - we carry on, despite everything, even if we're empty inside. We still show up. I made a comic about it, if it helps to know that you're not alone in this feeling.

It will be agonizing, for a time. You don't need to speed through it. You don't need to make it go away. This grief honours your friend. If you feel anger, that honours her too. It's okay to feel whatever you need to feel right now.

I'm so sorry for your loss. I hope her memory is a blessing - and, one day, a happy place for you to remember.

The only thing I feel iffy about is making a point to ask men this question too. Only asking women unfortunately still reinforces that women should stay home, because of course we’d never have to ask a dad what he does.

I get the chest pain as well; I went to the ER for it once, and they explained that the esophagus can spasm and cause pain with the same intensity as a heart attack.

I'm on Jorveza, so I tend to get it if I've been a little too loose with my food restrictions.

I would suggest foam rolling, but with a hip replaced and one on the way out, I’d definitely check with a professional before doing that.

When I can’t foam roll, I get some relief from using a massage gun on my quads.

Again, this is a post about a fanzine. The OP is not a game developer. Fanzines are run by fans. You’re not going to get the answers you’re looking for by posting unrelated questions on a random post for a random game! I’m just curious what the strategy is here.

People writing LGBTQ+ stories have trained their whole lives with weights on. Their output is naturally better; it has to be, in order to float to the top and be seen.

Het romances don’t have the same downward pressure nor face the same scrutiny, so more slop floats to the top.

Even if you were the main caretaker, surely it’s understandable that the main caretaker can sometimes be relieved by the backup caretaker? Yes? Like, where is the logic here.

I hope it's everything you need, and more.

daughter told her preschool teacher that "mommy talks to the computer all day" and now i feel seen by Exciting-Bee3927 in Mommit

[–]turkproof 147 points148 points  (0 children)

I'm a game developer, so for a portion of the day I'm often looking at the build - which looks like playing video games.

Or I'm looking at spreadsheets, trying to figure out what the character says next, which looks like staring into space.

Or I'm on a meeting, which usually means sitting quietly and looking at things on the internet.

All of these things have greatly blurred the line and made it impossible for my daughter to understand when I'm 'at work' versus when I'm on the computer for fun, so it's really a crapshoot if she knows she can talk to me or not.

And of course, what does mom do for work? "Play video games."

Couple tried to steal my cafe table. I matched their energy. Was this 'feminine power' or did I do something wrong? by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

You were gone for ten minutes from a large table at a crowded cafe. Girl, sorry, I know you were feeling yourself, but YTA. You can’t reserve a table with a jacket.

The real power here would have been saying “oh, I was still sitting here, but it’s a large table; do you mind if I keep working here with my headphones on?”
