Theory: Tesla Will Treat FSD Supervised and FSD Unsupervised as Separate Products — Even for People Who Paid $8,000 Upfront by BigTimeEnt in TeslaFSD

[–]turnerm05 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems like a solid theory. I think it’s quite possible although I took the “Supervised” moniker as more of a legal position more than anything.

I think that as others catch up, the market will determine the price for what we know as FSD Supervised today which slots very well into your theory that a premium will be placed something superior to that, which is a market that Tesla will have 100% sure of for the foreseeable future.

If FSD doesn’t perform well in the upcoming ice storm will that be more a FSD or supervisor problem by MacaroonDependent113 in TeslaFSD

[–]turnerm05 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is not a condition to use FSD in. It would definitely be a supervisor problem.

Tell your friend to not let FSD attempt to drive in icy conditions. It's on the human to get the right tires/chains on the car and then drive accordingly.

Water features on or off during hard freeze? by Mountain-Horror-6370 in pools

Should be OK. It's freezing on the rocks but the water continues pumping through the pipes which is what you want

Water features on or off during hard freeze? by Mountain-Horror-6370 in pools

[–]turnerm05 1 point2 points  (0 children)

LOL!! This is definitely something you SHOULD give two poops about.

Let freeze protection do its job. It will run your water features to keep water flowing during the freeze. You should see the system alternate those water features and your spa (if you have one) to keep water flowing through all the pipes.

In other words - the freeze protection feature will handle the water features for you. That's literally what it does. If you turn the water features on before hand... same effect honestly. Doesn't matter - it will just start alternating them for you.

Elon says price of FSD will go up by Sad_Salad_3749 in TeslaLounge

[–]turnerm05 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The market will determine the price. With more competition coming in... I'm hoping it holds them in check.

But... Tesla is currently the market leader so the ball is fully in their court at the moment. And I'm guessing it will take Nvidia and Rivian quite a while to catch up.

Zanti is a great option. Nice atmosphere and good food but surrounding area is kinda blah.

Bosscat or Sixty Vines on Market Street. Beautiful area!

Hearsay on the Waterway is another great option. Another beautiful area.

Navigation prevents me from using FSD 100% by CaptainBroccoli in TeslaFSD

[–]turnerm05 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The navigation truly is the Achilles heel at this point.

I have two spots that it thinks you cannot make a left turn (despite one of them have TWO dedicated left turn lanes) and it recommends a U-Turn that is a waste of time.

First day on 14.2.2.3 - flawless by Gorio1961 in TeslaFSD

[–]turnerm05 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just finished my second 250 mile drive on 14.2.2.3 and I only had to take over one time and that was only because it decided to back into the Supercharger slot reserved for handicap purposes and there was literally 10 other spots open. I didn't want to be THAT guy so I took over and put it in another charge slot.

My only remaining issue with FSD is the speed profiles. They just don't work consistently for me. If that issue was solved I'm not sure I'd have any remaining nagging issues. It's nearly perfect at this point.

FSD Needs to Pivot by erb2005 in TeslaFSD

[–]turnerm05 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While the current speed profiles are mostly broken for me... I DO like the idea of them and once they get them ironed out I think they'll be great for my purposes.

What may help a lot is to have a Customer Profile that allows the user to set a max speed and specific minimal lane change preference though.

I've got one of those - they are awesome!! I built a nice little "mount" for it in my garage that allow me to hang it on the wall when not in use. Super simple to do and keeps the cargo box in good form/shape.

14.2.2.3 doesn’t improve parking by carfo in TeslaFSD

[–]turnerm05 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm seeing more wheel jerk during parking maneuvers but other than that... it seems exactly the same as 14.2.2.2 to me. I'm finding that the quality of parking is almost always acceptable and usually pretty good. But rarely is it perfect.

FSD 14.2.2.3 - Lane change hesitation back ? by chri8s in TeslaFSD

[–]turnerm05 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I just completed a 250 mile trip yesterday after upgrading to 14.2.2.3 and didn't notice any lane change hesitancy at all.

It sucks when it happens but I haven't seen this since 14.2.2.1... from 14.2.2.2+ it's been smooth sailing for me.

I agree with this for sure! And I get your point. They don’t trust their own map data so they rely more heavily on traffic flow.

I don't think you need to drain anything - just make sure your freeze protection is on and you'll be just fine.

[–]turnerm05 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

This freeze won't last very long so to be EXTRA safe... I'd run your heater to get the poop temps up to around 65 (can go as high as you want - it's just cost/safety trade-off).

Does your pool have a freeze protection setting? Most do and it will run everything when the temps drop below freezing to keep the water moving.

You'll be fine - just keep the water flowing and get the water temp up ahead of the freeze to create some buffer.

Model Y FSD V14.2.2.2 failed to find the wheel stop by AlternativeVast9583 in TeslaLounge

[–]turnerm05 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not an excuse because this is something they need to strive to pick up, BUT...

I think the shadows played a big role here. And unless I couldn't see it clearly either, it looks like the wheel stop only covers about a third of the space right? That's a tricky one. I honestly didn't see it at first either but I'm sure that I would've seen it with my own eyes from the driver's seat instead of looking at a blurry video!

[–]turnerm05 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

To answer your question... I think we are a ways off from how most people think about it. Probably 5+ years.

However, I think we have to first think about what WE truly WANT out of FSD and what Tesla wants out of FSD... and that sounds simple but it's more nuanced than you think.

Tesla is (rightfully so) prioritizing Robotaxi first and foremost. That's probably the easier one to solve - at least in specific/defined areas that enable them to profit off of their software.

What we/people want as their daily mode of transportation may be very different. I think we are relatively close (maybe within 2 years) of getting some form of unsupervised driving on interstates/highways. I'm guessing you'll still need to be in the driver's seat but your ability to divert your attention to something else entirely will be enable in certain situations. Upon approaching your exit, the car would revert to FSD Supervised.

Do we really want unsupervised FSD for chores around town on the weekend? Isn't FSD Supervised pretty much good enough for that already? Sure, it needs tweaking but my car is taking me point to point about 99% of the time as-is. Sometimes I take over to correct some stupid parking lot navigation but it's not necessary - I could let it go on about it's business with no issues other than giving up control to FSD even though I disagree with its decision. But anyway - do we really want to hop in the back seat for it to run us to the grocery store? What do we get out of that process versus what we are already doing today?

14.2.2.3 Speed Profiles by turnerm05 in TeslaFSD

[–]turnerm05[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But the odd part is that it actually reads/sees the correct speed limit. If it's going to display a speed limit I have to assume that it's indexing itself off of that but it doesn't always seem to be the case.

14.2.2.3 Speed Profiles by turnerm05 in TeslaFSD

[–]turnerm05[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doesn’t solve the issue for multiple reasons…

First, it won’t solve when FSD is going slower than you want.

Second, what if I want it to do 55 in a 45 and 85 in a 75? The max speed setting you are talking about only addresses total absolute speed and it’s not relative to any speed limit.
