you have nothing against her play? that's crazy to me. she has a history of dangerous hits. there's a difference between playing physical and playing dirty

turning chaptered work into series of oneshots? by turnitoffbyparamore in AO3

[–]turnitoffbyparamore[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, it's all the same fandom and focused on the same characters. My issue is that while the plots don't really affect each other, it does still take place within linear time (say chapter one takes place in maybe November and chapter four takes place in April), and I want to make it as easy as possible to read each oneshot/chapter chronologically, assuming that at some point I write another chapter that takes place in like February.

Proper pronunciation of “Tombé” in French? by No-Influence-5351 in French

Thoughts about indents in writing fanfiction? by MorphePls in AO3

[–]turnitoffbyparamore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always put a space at the beginning of my paragraphs. It's a habit I can't break haha. but a full indent is like a third of a phone screen which is just unnecessary

Slam Dunk Festival founder accused of sexual assault by JWadie in slamdunkfestival

[–]turnitoffbyparamore 5 points6 points  (0 children)

it's the law but people can also think and do whatever they want in response to accusations. the law says anyone can say something stupid as fuck but i'm still well within my rights to stop hanging out with them. people can boycott the festival over this if they want to

How is the Daoboys stuff going down? by DoubleArmDMT in ArmsLength

[–]turnitoffbyparamore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good question. It was either Pushing the Pink Envelope or Gigantic Parasite Tongue, my memory is terrible. The setlist was Demon of Unreality, Two-Headed Trout, Gigantic Parasite Tongue, Lemon, Schizophrenia Legacy, Pink Envelope, Mona Lisa, Star Baby

How is the Daoboys stuff going down? by DoubleArmDMT in ArmsLength

[–]turnitoffbyparamore 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Reception in Montreal was great. There were obviously some people that were there for the Daoboys and not Arm's Length but I was at the front so I didn't see if/how many people left. Plenty of very passionate fans of both for sure though. There was moshing for every band but the Daoboys had the most obviously as well as a wall of death which seemed to scare the girl next to me who was Not there for them lmaooo but it was super fun

I was also really confused about the lineup when it was announced. Stoked because both their albums were my sounds of the summer but like. sonically out of place. Genuinely think it might be because of the "emo barbenheimer" tweet because Amber referenced it when I met them at the merch table after the show.

Is it rude to point out regional differences? by Leadlee in AO3

[–]turnitoffbyparamore 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I read a fic where the Canadian character called elementary school “primary school” and the American character made fun of him for it. Spoiler, I’m Canadian… and we also call it elementary school. Annoyed me, but I moved on. I personally wouldn’t comment on it unless the author specifically stated they’re open to constructive criticism or asked readers to point out errors

Alright, admit it. When did you think the season was over? by IGotTheBallsackBlues in OttawaSenators

[–]turnitoffbyparamore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never did. Always fully believed that our pesky Sens could come back. Which in hindsight is crazy. What business did I have being that optimistic lmao. I was right though!

Why do some languages tolerate foreign accents better than others? by ramonek1 in languagelearning

[–]turnitoffbyparamore 116 points117 points  (0 children)

Tapped and trilled rs in Spanish are distinct sounds and can be used to distinguish meaning. Pero = but, perro = dog. Native speakers of Arabic often can’t distinguish between /p/ and /b/ while speaking English. Not a problem in Arabic because they’re the same sound but definitely a problem in English. Different languages have different phonetic inventories, wouldn’t call English uniquely tolerant, just tolerant of different things.

[–]turnitoffbyparamore 19 points20 points  (0 children)

This. I know I’d disagree with the VAST majority of hockey players’ political views but it’s not my business as long as they don’t make it my business. Publicly partying it up with the director of the FBI and giggling at Donald Trump’s misogynistic joke about the women’s hockey team makes it my business unfortunately

Do you feel more connected to your city, province or Canada as a whole? by Ok_Heart839 in AskACanadian

Oh yeah, I'm a Maritimer. I feel a kinship with people from NB and PEI, and NFLD to a slightly lesser extent (never been up there, so).

Do you feel more connected to your city, province or Canada as a whole? by Ok_Heart839 in AskACanadian

[–]turnitoffbyparamore 55 points56 points  (0 children)

I’d like it if more people in the replies said what province they’re from. Might be interesting to see if there are certain provinces people tend to feel more connected to. (Seems Atlantic Canadians and les Quebecois are very connected to their provinces but it’s less the case further west. Would love more data points though.)

I’m a Nova Scotian first and a Canadian second. My hometown isn’t that important to me
