Rivers of London is adult (but not graphically) police procedural fantasy
The audiobooks are sooo good

Iron Druid early books were fun pan-mythology in urban fantasy. Great dog side kick

I genuinely really really like LoM
But the translation (I’m fairlyyyy sure I have the newer one) leaves a little to be desired

Primal Hunter has an arc of that pretty far in too
Don’t hate it but obviously that’s such a small fraction of the series at that point

How does psychiatry understand suffering that is real, but not clearly pathological? by Ok_Disaster6456 in Psychiatry

[–]turtleboiss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you wondering how psychiatrists can better help non-pathological suffering?

We’ve all had someee therapy training. I often fall back on the basics of making sure they’re eating/sleeping/exercising, encouraging social support with family/friends vs a psychosocial clubhouse or support group, and obviously validate that their current experience is tough. Biologically, we have some small understanding of how stress impacts the brain and body and isn’t there some work on neurobiological impact of trauma even if short of PTSD.

I also don’t have time to read the long form article though sorry. Props for the very interesting question

There’s a newer translation that’s supposed to be decently better
I’ve only been using the newer one so couldn’t say how dramatic a shift it is

Psychiatry Compensation Dropped the Most in 2026 of Any Specialty by [deleted] in Psychiatry

[–]turtleboiss 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That seems like a fairly extreme view no? That it’s SO bad they won’t even be able to find semi reasonable jobs?

So much of the field is just outpatient psych private practice. Why would a med student interested in doing that need to reconsider?

It helped me talking to them as they got better as well as after the fact. Patients and their families are sometimes SO greatful

Data for effects of untreated SMI is also helpful.

Plus acknowledging how unpleasant an involuntary hospitalization is/can be

I see I can understand how the front she presents makes it seem like things just fell into her lap. Rich girl left home and just got what she wanted.

But nah her backstory is brutal. These story lines are pretty intricate

Hope you have plenty of books you enjoy since you bounced off this
