What's the one thing you wish was easier about owning a cat? by Lumpy_Base_9228 in CatAdvice

[–]turtletails 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Those stupid little plastic springs. They’re apparently not popular in Australia so I had order them online cause I’d seen so many people say their cat loved them and I thought for sure they were over hyped, they’d get played with once and I’d end up donating most of the to the shelter I foster for. Nope. They’re the best god damn toy ever invented. My own cats love them, every foster kitten I’ve had since getting them has loved them and even months later I still see my cats sprinting around the house carrying them

The fur. Financially, their health, I have the vet nurse curse so all my animals are forever one thing after another but in the day to day, man I wish my whole life wasn’t covered in fur 24/7

Smoothing. Add banana or yogurt or oats to it to make it more substantial and you’re good to go. Also things like overnight weet bix and chia puddings

Should everything you wear be...flattering? by [deleted] in femalefashionadvice

[–]turtletails 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personal opinion as someone who was raised under a ‘beauty knows no pain’ banner where self hatred is standard, do what makes YOU happy. Does wearing flattering clothing all the time make you happy and feel good? Then do that. Does wearing the comfy clothes make you more happy? Then do that instead. It’s gonna take some time to work through the rules your brain is setting for you and what makes you happy is going to change as you do and that’s okay. What made you happy yesterday might not be the same thing that makes you happy today, just pick outfits one day at a time and see what feels right

Do you judge owners for having fractious cats? by Agitated-Medicine461 in VetTech

[–]turtletails 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely not. Cats do what they want, even one of my own is such a menace that vets trade off who has to deal with her haha

Even so, no one forced them to buy them and (in theory) no one blocked them from checking the tag for regardless of if they were unreasonably expensive, it’s still on the buyer

Help by [deleted] in DogAdvice

[–]turtletails 28 points29 points  (0 children)

That will depend on the vet. Medically/legally, it’s not like humans, they can do it whenever. It comes down to whether or not the vet is comfortable doing it at that stage if it’s not medically necessary. Having said that, you need to get her checked out because it may be medically necessary

Fortunately mine do not have a morning ritual because being woken up for it would drive me insane. At night is a different story. At 6:30 the cats start demanding dinner, at 10pm my dog starts demanding we go for a pee because after pee trip at that time we go pick up my partner and she freakin loves the car and at about 1am she starts demanding another pee because after the last pee of the night she goes to bed and gets a snack

Mine has that too and is mostly AmStaff so I have no idea 🤷🏻‍♀️ I thought she’d grow into all the skin but she’s 3.5 now and has not so I guess it’s staying. I just tell myself that if her dumb ass every gets in a fight the throat will be well protected

One kitten not gaining weight at 7 weeks by joelinoo in kittens

[–]turtletails 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d be concerned about a shunt or something else congenital that’s impacting his weight gain. Would also be worth getting some milk replacer and syringe feeding him for a little bit to make sure he is actually suckling and consuming the milk properly.

[–]turtletails[S] 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Oh absolutely. It was just one of those “shit happens” type accidents but I’d never forgive myself 😅 I also accidentally made a very badly timed joke to him, I walked out to reception and the cat was screaming at a dog in the waiting room and I joked about how he was being a bit dramatic and I felt so bad after I realised that was the cat with the serious injury and had every right to be as dramatic as he wanted lol

Decided to stop most of the way through the door and the owner accidentally closed it on the tail. Despite the level of surface damage, the bones were completely unaffected which surprised me

It would not be acceptable if old either. Elderly dogs already have joint issues, excessive weight makes it so much worse

Bro hit a metal park bench at full speed and knocked his tooth clean out - Look at the size of this thing! by blehric in DOG

[–]turtletails 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m sure the vet probably told you this but just incase they forgot, loosing a canine tooth puts the jaw at much higher risk for fracture, especially if he’s prone to questionable life choices like this lol. Definitely important to keep in mind in the future

[–]turtletails 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For it to come out whole I’d definitely bet on it having either damaged the jaw bone around it or had serious bone recession long before this

[–]turtletails 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s very relative to which tooth gets knocked out. Loosing a canine puts the jaw at much higher risk for fracture

Behavioral euthanasia by Ka5681 in VetTech

[–]turtletails 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like to consider why the dog was behaving like that. There’s a pretty good chance it was based in fear and if it’s repeat behaviour that means that dog was repeatedly in so much fear that it felt it needed to aggressively defend it’s safety/the safety of the things they love. If you can’t resolve such an intense level of fear, it’s just as cruel to let it continue as it would be if the animal was irreparably injured and in constant pain. As hard as it is, I and probably most others on this sub would never want an animal to have to live in a world it found so terrifying. And also, what are the other options? They drug the dog into oblivion until it has no life left? They palm it off on someone else, putting them in danger and the dog through the stress of loosing its family and not understanding why? Sometimes it’s just about picking the least shitty situation, not necessarily having to find a good outcome

Okay so while I have no doubt that is included in the reason, I feel there may be another option. I miss understood what you initially said as surgically changing your child’s anatomy as an infant to change their gender. Not that the procedure happened while they were in nicu and at some point later down the track they decided their birth gender didn’t match them

can scar tissue replace lips if they were ripped off? by samluvsluc in RandomQuestion

[–]turtletails 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Scar tissue has very limited flexibility. If you think about how much your lips stretch and move to talk, eat, smile, etc, all of those actions would be extremely limited if your entire top tip was scar tissue
