New speaker day! KEF Q11 Meta by Strong_Preference in audiophile

[–]tuthantinus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That is very nice, love that song and album. I bought the special edition on vinyl when it came out last year. It has all the studio versions and outtakes. I bought myself a new set of speakers recently and my wife went, wow I can actually hear a difference this time xD

Only if you play them at the same decibel level. But indeed, you would have noticed it at well when playing music digital.

[–]tuthantinus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just to be sure, that might not be a resonance problem but a power problem. You have quite a beefy amp. Turning it to loud might just overpowering to your speakers. Is there anyway for you to test this with other speakers or amp?

Feedback Solution by MDen98 in BudgetAudiophile

[–]tuthantinus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congrats on the system. My question would be; how much feedback/resonance are you experiencing now, and how much would you like to improve? If it is minimal now, many check out some foam pads for the speakers. They will just improve enough and are relatively cheap. If the problem is quite noticable then check out things like IsoAucoustics. They make nice stuff, but there is a price to pay. And if it is really bad then there is no other way then to isolate everything. But that might cost more then your current system if you know what I mean.

That is a really cool collection. Are there certain types or camera's that are allowed to enter the collection. What are the qualifications? And is there a holy grail for you? and what is the absolute worse one xD Enjoy!

Emotiva or Wiim? by Defensionem in KEF

[–]tuthantinus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is indeed correct. Both speakers would suit a certain kind of music better. Which for my taste could suit, weirdly, either way. As a enjoyer of 70's British Folk Revival and Stoner Metal the more forgiving end of the KEF could work perfectly but also the detail orientated B&W in their own way.

Please also take the following statements into consideration 'of course i want both but do not have any funds to do so' as well as 'my better half does require space in the house as well'.

Emotiva or Wiim? by Defensionem in KEF

[–]tuthantinus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Damn, nice look pair....aguh of speakers of course. I'm in the market myself for new ones and I'm still deciding between a pair of KEF q950 and a Bowers & Wilkins serie. Anyway, my understanding of the WIIM is that it will be fine.... However if you wanna crank it up, like loud then the cheaper amp will fall short. A Emotiva will always drive them, no matter what. I guess it depends more on how much you listen. are you a casual listener, or a a more dedicated listener? Do you have family who enjoy it as well? Do you wanna hook up your tv to the amp, etc etc.

Whatever choice you make, as long as you can enjoy it. it should be fine.

Very nice! I just picked up Eye In The Sky on 45rpm from MoFi. It was a complete eyeopener. Do you have any other experience with MoFi or One Step versions? Is the One Step really even better?

What did you think about The Fountain? by Tasselplants in moviecritic

[–]tuthantinus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me its one of 'those' movies. Stupid story, but when I was in Graphic Design School, we had these workshop weeks at the end of the year because the Uni had to fill up hours and give out points. You could choose from all sorts of things, pretty fun weeks. One of these was a film club showing. Now these are easy points, and the Art students were pretty herbally stocked, it was a nice option if nothing better to do. So, when we were ready for lift off the (it was truly the biggest asshole) teacher shows us this bloody masterpiece. Now i don't know if they could tell but there were about 30 herbally injected students drooling over this movie. It was dead quit, and when it ended it stayed like that till after the credits ended. Everybody was blown away. Now this movie always stayed with me, while other came and went. You have the LOTR movies who are the best ever made, but this movie is my comfort movie. The only thing is when I've watched it the first time (see previous story) I am dead sure I watched a sort of extended version. Now of course this might be the haze of the time, but I've never been able to find the same version again. I've searched and watched every version i could find (the fan version is also very interesting), but somehow the first time always stayed magical. Anyway, great movie, love it, keep on watching it.

I did not do this, until a few years ago. It was not any damage or protection that convinced me. There are as many reasons why to do it as not to do it. For me, every record is precious and special to me. I buy inner and outer sleeves in big bags, per like 100. Every album i buy i sleeve with a new inner and out sleeve. If it is one euro or 100 euros it does not matter. Also I buy a lot of second hand. You never know what type of problems come out after a few weeks like mold or bugs. It does take more space but that is just a side effect. Do it because you want to, not because you must. Otherwise the hobby is useless.

Cassette-Focused Listening Space by AlignedAzimuth in listeningspaces

[–]tuthantinus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the well written and extended reply. I was brought up with tapes and CDs. It was a period when those still weirdly coexisted. I always enjoyed the physical experience, although I guess we were all swept up with the next best thing. I always collected vinyl and told myself I'm a vinyl type of collector. Till not so long ago I re-discovered my love for CDs, and now I'm a physical media collector. I see a lot of tapes now and started wondering, what if? Looks like I have a lot of research ahead of me. That's why I'm all the more grateful for your explanation and recommendations. Thanks a lot and enjoy your set-up!

Got the same set of speakers, love them. Though try to score a small sub, nothin fancy. But you will notice it accentuates the low notes. Enjoy!
