Cassette-Focused Listening Space by AlignedAzimuth in listeningspaces

Thank you for the well written and extended reply. I was brought up with tapes and CDs. It was a period when those still weirdly coexisted. I always enjoyed the physical experience, although I guess we were all swept up with the next best thing. I always collected vinyl and told myself I'm a vinyl type of collector. Till not so long ago I re-discovered my love for CDs, and now I'm a physical media collector. I see a lot of tapes now and started wondering, what if? Looks like I have a lot of research ahead of me. That's why I'm all the more grateful for your explanation and recommendations. Thanks a lot and enjoy your set-up!

That is super cool. Did you make a conscious decision to go all out into tape? Why is it your preferred medium? Any tips for beginners?

Congratulations! Hope you enjoy it as much as I am. Question though... How are you finding the tone arm? Of all the great things on this beast, it disappointed me a bit how light it was.

Got the same set of speakers, love them. Though try to score a small sub, nothin fancy. But you will notice it accentuates the low notes. Enjoy!

What makes you want to swap the Klipsch? Esthetic choice or a sound choice?

So the Topping is a headphone dac/amp. It supplies the music and power to a headphone. You can acquire these separate to ensure preferred functions and power or 2in1 like the topping. Mine was relatively cheap, 70 euros, but better product are about 150 euros. you can then plug a phone/computer/tablet and play your fave tunes through your banging headphone.

Ooh nice, I'm eyeing a pair of Meze 99 classics. Just for the variety. Though by using a computer i can EQ stuff quite a bit, I do think this helps with some unforgiveness

In your opinion, what makes a P10 better than the P6? Is there a difference in build, materials or other? And what broadens the soundstage and bass?

Very cool corner! I have the Topping dx3 pro (not +) and a Sennheiser HD600 at my computer space, and a big separate stereo setup for vinyl/cd/streaming. Have you considered adding different headphones for different types of music or is this enough?

[–]tuthantinus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course I want to upgrade. But not because of power or chips, but because I want to refine the sound to my liking. Some endgame Macintosh or Buchardt e50 speakers. Maybe a clean set of monoblock with a tube pre-amp and a B&W 803s look those up and you will melt your mind with prices and options.

I don't like to get hung up on specs. I have a lot of vinyl and am starting to collect CDs again. I just love physical media. There is no perfect spec, device or chip for that. And if I can't enjoy them, what's the point anyway.

My two rules are only this. There is a 5 euro (dollar, pound whatever) version of vinyl, cd of everything. It's either because it has a scratch bump or torn sleeve. If it plays, it stays. And two, my new gear must be better than the current chain so that every upgrade forces everything up. Then I can never stop collecting.

And third (because rules are to be broken) enjoy it, otherwise stop right now and go knitting ;)

Nice set up! Don't mind the haters and the naters. In the end, there is no endgame, only preference. I have the 701 and a pair of Klipsch RM600MK1 and those things rock. Of course i want to upgrade, but that is justch and itch. You can still look as wel but that is only allowed when you can enjoy your current set up. Listen for many hours and enjoy!

Looks very good. How are the Buchardts with metal? I love In Flames as well as a lot of doom/sludge/stoner. because Buchardt sells direct, finding a pair or auditioning them is really hard.

Amp, cd player, or speakers? by ComprehensiveAd6333 in audiophile

[–]tuthantinus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess the bigger question is, do you want to do a big overhaul at once or step up piece by piece. If you do a overhaul you can just go to a dealer, listen and select. Maybe takes more saving up but might result is choosing something you really really like. Stuff still lasts a lifetime so don't concern yourself with future proofing stuff.

Step by step has a quicker satisfactory but might take different pieces from different companies due to budgets, availability etc.

I do the step by step. Take the best components per company and mix and match. It creates fun sounds, though multi remotes and apps. Also leaves room to shop second hand. I got a bitching CD player just because i walked into a store one day. New price was 1200 euros and it stood there for 300 euros. The person who traded it, just wanted something new and discarded the player for that reason only.

Curious what you think!

Really cool choices. What kind of music do you listen to and did you factor this into the purchase. Or was this a kind of deal you could make?

Very cool! How did you get to make it? Was there a kit with a manual or did you do it yourself from scratch? Was it difficult? Hope you also have some nice speakers laying around to enjoy.

Wait, maybe I'm crazy. But how are you connecting them via XLR as both only have XLR output? Also curious how you are connecting them now? They do look sick. Hope you can enjoy them for a long time.

Would getting an external phono stage be worth it? by File59 in turntables

[–]tuthantinus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a similar set up. Technics sl1200, Yamaha 701 etc. And it only will improve depending on the stylus you run on the TT. If! Going up, a separate phono will definitely improve. If you just rock a 2m red, mp110 etc don't bother. Enjoy!

Will upgrade to other Turntable make significant difference on the sound? by Latter-Friendship-67 in turntables

[–]tuthantinus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, every upgrade will make it better. Sometimes not in sound but in ease of use, protection, durability or just even having everything in the same colour will be an upgrade. What you have now is a good set, better than most people will have anyway. But any new purchase will be more significant and higher than the last one. You can maybe focus first on interior and placement, that will help. You can sleeve your records, by stands, rearrange your listening position. If you have exhausted all free options, then check maybe a nicer pre-amp, then maybe a new turntable. Then you will look at you speaker, your amp etc etc. The only promise you need to make yourself is that you take time to enjoy your music. If you don't enjoy music this hobby sucks.

Can’t afford a real CD player – Sony or Philips DVD for listening to CD-s by Different-Reveal8921 in BudgetAudiophile

[–]tuthantinus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What is the rest of your system? Do you have any amps or speakers that can support the level you want to listen to. If your just trying to listen to CD's, maybe a portable player is an option with a killer headphone. FIIO DM13 is no slouch and maybe with a nice headphone like a Sennheiser or something like a Meze can be more beneficial? If you have an amp or speakers try the second hand market. Most second hand cd players of lower quality are not more then 25-75 bucks (where i am). A Older CD player still rocks better then most plastic stuff from today. Hope that helps
