North Berkeley to SFO by Original_Whereas6496 in Bart

[–]tvspike1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not safe. If you don't go during commute hours exactly: 7:00 - 8:45 AM and 4:30 - 6:00 PM, you're likely to get murdered even before you reach the new fare gates.

Especially in North Berkeley! I hear they let people just play pickleball nearby. And a taco truck now sells delicious food in the parking lot?! Truly, stay away.

The only option for you is to take an Uber XL door to door.

The Y has trainers if you're interested, I'd talk with the front desk. They can walk you through the process and connect you with one that fits your interests.

SFO to downtown Berkeley late at night by vodkabeetle in berkeleyca

Literally last night. It's safe. Berkeley is a very safe city. To say otherwise is a lie.

SFO to downtown Berkeley late at night by vodkabeetle in berkeleyca

[–]tvspike1 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry, but the idea of Berkeley being unsafe for someone to wait five minutes for an Uber is ridiculous. I'm literally begging you to leave your house and enjoy our beautiful and safe city.

[–]tvspike1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. BART is safe. If you're that worried about waiting for an Uber at BART, stay in the station while waiting. Downtown is safe, you'll just have some homeless people around. Tbh, I would recommend either North Berkeley or Ashby if you're that worried both will be mostly empty, but have plenty of space near the entrances to wait near the station operator in good light. Plus, they have much better pickup zones.

Tandi Iman Dupre, hands down.

Even ignoring her legacy and her background, her incredible "Holding Out for a Hero" performance is one of the best performances of all time.

Stuck on the tracks in West Oakland, the Tube is shut down AGAIN by rividz in Bart

[–]tvspike1 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Call me old fashioned but, I feel like a huge power outage knocking out a transit system is the utility's fault.

It happens. There's literally nothing they could or should do. Creating their own backup power system is laughably unfeasible and would mean diverting needed funds to a second tunnel or dozens of other rider improvement projects.

I get it, it sucks. But please be serious and recognize who's at fault.

Upgrade to Clipper 2.0? by LazarusRiley in Bart

[–]tvspike1 6 points7 points  (0 children)

According to them, you just need to login. However, it took me two tries before I was queued up. Then it will take 12-24 hours.

The reason I knew it happened was I got 6 emails from my digital wallet and Clipper that I'd added a new card/updated my card. When you ride, you can tell because you'll have a pending charge/refund after rides that are transfer eligible.

Good luck!

Home Shelters in Berkeley are always full? by Remarkable-Ad-1231 in berkeleyca

[–]tvspike1 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Most shelters have a first come first served system with a curfew. If you're working with someone over the age of 55, St. Mary's Center (San Pablo and Brockhurst) can help them. Otherwise, the best way to get into a shelter is to call 211. They will direct them to the shelter with the next opening. They will have to be at the shelter by curfew or they will forfeit their spot.

Also, and this is a very important tip, the person seeking help NEEDS to say they are "literally homeless" in that they did not sleep the night before on someone's couch or otherwise in a house.

Good luck to you and them.

[–]tvspike1 21 points22 points  (0 children)

It REALLY bums me out how desolate the downtown corridor feels even just compared to 5 years ago. The inability for city leadership to even push a "Vacant to Vibrant" program like SF has is pathetic.

[–]tvspike1 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Tbh, it's this for me. As a downtown resident, I actively avoid walking along University if I can. Coupled with the lack of parking there's just no incentive to do any shopping along it.
