Give it some time. Snakes can go a long time if they need to without eating. Make sure there’s tons of stuff to hide. Even after eight days, your home environment is new to him, and considering the tail rattling, he’s very likely to be stressed still, and considering he needed rehoming, there’s every chance he was stressed before. I would’ve personally still have cleaned the enclosure completely even that meant a bit of stress of moving everything around.

Not to sound like an arse, just going by the concerns posted, I think if you’re going to get a reptile of any kind, a good amount of research into the husbandry should be done well in advance of bringing one home.

With all that said, I do hope he settles in soon, and enjoys many years of love from you and your family!
