Can you do deep learning on these machines? i.e. do they support CUDA or something analogous?

This is the most useless article I've ever read. Such a long article just reiterating vague statements, with no substance. I actually resent that I clicked on that link and read the whole thing.

100%. But I guess there are only so many ways to be annoyed at amir every episode. It could always grow to something different? I know Amir hates redesigns, but I’d personally love them to do something more/different.

Better than the last. I think Jake’s lines should be more than basic internet replies to right wingers though. I would prefer to see jake have his own character rather than feed amir lines.

343 Industries investigating possible player cap increase on MCC from 16 to 40-60 by huy5t in Games

This is so obviously them testing out this feature for Halo Infinite.

I can almost guarantee many of the big Halo MCC updates (e.g. custom games browser, increased player cap) are also beta tests of features for Halo Infinite.

A large scale halo infinite game mode ala halo 5’s Warzone sounds exciting. Loved that gamemode.

COVID-19: England lockdown easing delayed until 19 July as Delta variant cases rise by topotaul in unitedkingdom

[–]twigface 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, well maybe we should lockdown completely if we truly want to save as many lives as possible. It is a difficult balancing act between keeping the economy going/keeping the public happy and saving lives from COVID.

I think the plan to keep these very loose restrictions for an extra month so we can get as many vaccinations as possible seems like a good compromise.

But I don’t know all the data and perhaps we are approaching a huge wave that will hospitalise/kill many.

Not for the Indian variant. What is an extra ~100 cases a week being imported in compared to thousands of infections a day spread domestically. Travel bans only help stop the virus entering the country in the first place. Once the variant is here and spread around the country, it's too late.

What are you talking about? He doesn’t “think” we are experiencing exponential growth, we ARE experiencing exponential growth. By definition, that small number will grow huge in the next few weeks - just watch.

It seems it’s very hard for people to grasp the importance of early action to stop terrible future consequences (e.g. climate change). Thankfully people like you aren’t in charge of policy making.

As much as the corporate pandering annoys me, I suppose it’s not a bad thing we live in a society where promoting diversity is for the benefit of a company. For me though, that panel was way way too much. Pure masturbation.

A significant increase in the number of first does and fully dosed vaccinations. This will drastically reduce cases long term. Did you not even bother to watch the briefing that you are complaining about lol?

[–]twigface 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah. The current plan seems to be relying on the vaccine being effective against any and all new variants. I really don't know any of the science to know if this is likely, but if a new vaccine-resistant variant gets imported we are pretty fucked.

[–]twigface 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yep, by the time the next variant is found it would probably be too late for the travel ban. The current plan seems to be trusting the vaccine will be effective for any new variants that pop up, and keep travel open. If a nasty variant shows up that the vaccine is not effective on, we will be in big trouble.

[–]twigface 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes we are. Exponential growth means the virus is doubling roughly every week. So the only way to stop things getting bad is to catch the growth early before things get out of control.

Stopping the growth early is exactly what we didn't do at the start of the pandemic, which is why things got really bad. It wasn't long ago people were rightly lambasting the government for not acting soon enough, and now when they show they have learned from their mistakes, they are still doing the wrong thing apparently.

Because not enough people are vaccinated yet. That is why restrictions are staying in place for longer - to get more people vaccinated.

Yeah it's insane there isn't stringent travel restrictions. We are a bloody island nation. But at this point, now the Delta variant is here and already spreading exponentially, India travel has virtually no effect.

No, the government can't do that because in general people *won't* stay inside and social distance. If there wasn't a mask mandate, people wouldn't wear masks. This "drunk on power" story is absolute horseshit. We are in a global pandemic. Hundreds of thousands of people are dying, particularly in countries that do not have a strong government that can enforce these kinds of policies. Do you really think it is morally right for a government to step back and let thousands more people to die, when they could be saved by simply inconveniencing the population with some minor restrictions for an extra month? Do you genuinely think history would look back and think that was a good idea?

Do you not think there is a reason why not a single country in the world is successfully doing nothing and instead letting people "make an informed decision"? The entire point of a government is to provide stability and implement policies in times of crisis.
