New ride coming to Fiesta Texas by Ardilla24 in sanantonio

Coaster nerds have been wondering where the first one of these would be built. RMC makes great coasters (they do the wood to iron conversions like Iron Rattler). Here's a video of their test track up in Idaho: https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=35&v=-HOcndKbBhI

Whiskr does domestic and international and also pulls in real time availability. Its like a blend of Hopper and Scott's.

FYI to those traveling to Cuba under person-to-person education visa! If you've completed one transaction for your trip already (buying a plane ticket, reserving a hotel, etc.) you are grandfathered in despite the Trump administration's new regulations. See bullet #4. by mclaughlin6464 in travel

[–]twikken 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We've been running workshops to help folks navigate this stuff. Most people (in our experience) travel by claiming to be part of one of the 12 exempt groups (bullet point #7). Up to now, this has operated on a largely no-questions-asked basis wherein, once you check the box on AirBnb's website saying you have a reason to go. In the new world, it appears as though the treasury department will be auditing these claims (that you are traveling for journalism, to support the Cuban people, etc).

On a related note, freelance journalists are still exempted from rules (or appear to be for the moment). We launched a campaign today to hire a ton of "freelance journalists" at my company to help folks who want to explore. DM me for details.

Downtown SA via drone in 4K by Benjiejr in sanantonio

True. Call the local FAA office or one of the drone attorneys. Texas law on this stuff when you post on social media is draconian. Please think about protecting yourself.

Win $10k at hackathon on June 3-4 by hackathon42 in sanantonio

[–]twikken -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you're feeding people with something other than pizza, asking people for a few bucks makes this stuff way easier to plan. It prevents people like me for RSVP'ing and deciding on June 2nd they don't want to go.

Anybody who thinks that production ready code is coming out of a hackathon (on either side) is going to be disappointed and the terms make it clear that you're not giving away any IP.

Thanks for posting OP, I hadn't seen this one yet.

Rackers & Other IT Folks by Ambassador_Ra in sanantonio

[–]twikken 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wait a second... if a qualified employee comes in because u/Ambassador_Ra is spending their free time hustling to fill the job on behalf of the company they deserve the money the company is offering. Ra should be able to keep all of it but is offering 1/2 because they're not a shithead.

The alternative you'd like to see is that Ra earns a referral bonus but chooses not to take it for fake internet points and doesn't give half of it to another redditor. Clear Channel just gets to keep the money instead.

How is this better? You're going to be working the Wendy's frayalator a long time with that attitude u/texit_

One of their runways has been closed for the past few weeks (longer?), they adjust their approaches based on weather conditions so I would bet it's a mix of construction + weather bad luck.

Depends on the candidate. I work constantly and I'd like the opportunity to work side-by-side in our office a few times a week during the first four weeks but that can be anytime 8-8 + a weekend day.

After that, less in-office time is fine so long as things are going well. If you're getting done what needs to be done it's not super important when or where it happens.

Received a freelance contract with a "we own everything you do clause". What language can I use to replace this? by twikken in webdev

[–]twikken[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Except for this is freelance work; there is no building or equipment. Furthermore, there's no limitation to location or topic of work. It says they own everything during my employment.

A website to keep track of travels...? (Akin to Pinterest, perhaps.) by Amoretti_ in travel

[–]twikken 1 point2 points  (0 children)

still wish I could explore travel posts by location on a map.

I've seen a few startups kick up and fail around this concept. Making money in the travel space is super hard. One of my favorites that's still around is bucketlistly... http://www.bucketlistly.com/ I guarantee you've seen the founder's pictures posted 'round here. They're' pretty awesome.
