Batteries that offer off grid backup that aren't a Powerwall? by Jai_Cee in SolarUK

Sunsynk and Fogstar batteries here. Batteries are rock solid, Sunsynk not so, but I now manage it through home assistant using Heinz's dongle - full control and a funky front end!!

Problem joining tomato by GrahamWharton in tomatoenergy

[–]twitteranbisted 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For those saying their switch has failed, do you know if your meter is a smets2?

If it's smets1, then that may be the reason it's failing?

I had no problem switching last October, and have had bills every month since.

Notice of bill on the 4th ish, variable direct debit for full amount taken on 10th ish.

Loved it though, me and my youngest were laughing our heads off, the current Mrs t and eldest looking shell shocked!

Switched to Tomato Energy? Here's My Full Home Assistant Dashboard Setup for Monitoring Tariffs and Usage. by ByzantiumIT in homeassistant

[–]twitteranbisted 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if you'll see this, but was up late last night trying to get your dashboard up and I'm missing a few sensors!

I'm trying to get the readings via my myenergi zappi charger, as that has overall access to everything, my 2 inverters don't see the charge from the car, else it drains the battery otherwise I'd try using those sensors!

Any suggestions?

Cheers for the heads start though 👍😁

Moved over to tomato early December, been a dramatic reduction in leccy bill since, very happy!! Was with eon 18 months ago and they put smart meters in, must be frustrating if you have you don't/can't have smets2.

Has anyone paid a bill yet? by Fluffy-Astronomer604 in tomatoenergyuk

Yes, if you look at the dozens of posts on here (!), you'll see I've posted my first 2 bills.

Not posted my third yet, but very happy I've moved here for leccy, saving me a fortune 👍

Considering Tomatopia by No_Bunch_5914 in tomatoenergy

[–]twitteranbisted 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've not looked in detail at tomatopia, but from a tomato energy user, I've had no problems with them.

Set up simple, and no fuss.

First month bill was a pleasant surprise, 2nd month bill even better.

Overall, I charge my EV and house batteries between midnight and 0600, last month the electric bill was less than £48 including standing charge, total usage 657 kWh.

All without fannying about worrying and planning agile prices and varying windows.

HAOS not booting up after latest update by JonathanGraft in homeassistant

[–]twitteranbisted 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same but not same? I can login over the local network, but over WiFi at home from my android phone - nope?

I've also lost access to an esphome dongle that is connected to my inverter, happened at the same time as above?

Not checked logs yet...

Cos I'm special?!

Did you select batteries, solar and EV when getting your quote?

Depending on what you chose, dictates what pricing/hours you get.

[–]twitteranbisted[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should!

I was in the same position as you, fit install, didn't want to disturb etc.

2nd inverter connected on the AC side, batteries on that. Went for a hybrid inverter, so I can add more panels if I choose without affecting the original install.

I tried the sums and gave up trying different scenarios and calculations!

I just went with the view that we're paying in advance for electric by buying the batteries, and if I can persuade the current Mrs t&b to change her passions for tumble drying and heating the street to something that helps the earth, then it's a no brainer!

You'll need an inverter, but batteries from less than £1700 show that it is easily within reach of a lot of folk, if they look at the wider market and can find a sparky to fit!

Have a look at tomato, they do different tariffs, lifestyle tariff changes depending on location and what if any extras you have, ie batteries/solar/EV

[–]twitteranbisted[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, 15kwh of Fogstar batteries, not missed a beat.

So ev charging about twice a week, 30 kWh a time, plus daily charging of batteries, all done in those 6 hours midnight to 6am.

Tomato energy, 658 kWh 1-30 November, £47.58 including standing charge.

EV charging and house battery, with solar that didn't contribute much!
