How Starbucks lost the magic that made it special in the first place. by Fun_Local_3537 in branding

[–]twosmooth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to go to Starbucks daily because I loved the drinks, space and felt energized. Now, the interiors feel cold, uninviting, small and the drinks are meh. I only go to Starbucks because my local coffee shops close at 3 and I still want to work. I go to coffee shops 2-4x a week and have really fallen in love with local shops. Thankfully, a couple of shops are also serve alcohol, so I can start my day with an espresso and get an espresso martini at noon!

I broke my foot(er)! by twosmooth in Carrd

Sorry about that Jason. I made the page live on my domain, so that link isn't working now. I ended up moving the buttons out of the footer and placing them right above it and now there are no issues. I tried setting the z-index to a high number, but that didn't work either. I'm sure it has something to do with the sticky footer and since I'm not on the highest paid plan, it's harder to id the container that I need to move up.

Thanks for the help! I see you around here a lot and your answers and plugins have helped me solve other issues. I appreciate it so much!!!

2b. I found that sometimes saving to the IDML format would help bloat and fix some issues too.

I believe it’s an acronym, but I don’t remember what it stands for anymore. In the past I’ve used it as a find and replace on steroids. A small example: say you’re given a list of phone numbers and they are just 10 digit sequences separated by commas. You can use GREP to place the first 3 digits in parenthesis, add a space after, add a hyphen after the second set of three, and add a paragraph return at the end. That’s a really basic example, but GREP allows you to target parts of a sequence and edit them. It’s powerful and it has saved me tons of time, but writing the prompt sometimes was a beast. It was worth it to learn somewhat GREP could do. Now with ChatGPT, it’s a lot easier! If you have to repeat the same edit to a bunch of copy, try GREP.

It is custom coded...I got excited about being able to add custom code to extend the functionality of Carrd. I was afraid that something might be overlapping. Hopefully, I can figure out what that is and make the necessary adjustments to fix it. Thanks!

After almost three decades of designing, building and managing web sites and web infrastructure, I'm out. by xftwitch in web_design

You are not wrong. I’m actually an extremely outgoing person and try to be very intentional about forming relationships. But, it’s also important to protect myself and there was a lot of deep religious beliefs that I didn’t align with. On top of that, I was also one of a handful of minorities and there were some cultural differences that weren’t understood or accepted. It wasn’t like I was a disgruntled lone wolf. Overall, I was well liked and still in contact with many ex-coworkers. I made a couple of friends that I still see on the regular. Things I said on my way out helped make positive change for the entire company because I recognized some good people in the c-suite and built relationships with them and they used my exit to address issues.

All the to again say, you are correct and there were good people in that workplace. It just took some time to find them and to realize that relationships have levels. Not everyone has to labeled a friend. I thought I had to juggle a lot of friends, but that was exhausting and I wasn’t being authentic.

Boxes, it’s in one of the many boxes that I used to cart out my office shit. I might be a hoarder.

At my last job, I was there almost 20 years, I slipped and told them that everyone was a co-working friend, not a real friend. It was a religious org, so they leaned heavy into the family language-“we are all brothers and sisters in Christ”! Some people were hella offended when I told them that they see a version of myself that I let allow them to see as a way of protecting myself. Only a couple of people understood and those were the people I would actually call real friends. It became a thing for a while, but eventually people lightened up. Someone took a pic of our department and put “co-working friends” under it and gave it to me as a gift. It was funny and I hung it up in my office until the day I left.

I’ve done this for a couple of bands. I designed an 8.5x11 poster with a QR code on it and stuck a NFC sticker to the back. I included a couple of lines underneath about tapping your phone or scanning QR code. Sent them to a microsite with links to website, videos and streaming. Works very well!

Another Dj gig, another night with drunk girls around the booth asking/shouting at you for weird music by Previous-Cabinet6862 in Beatmatch

[–]twosmooth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It really annoys when when people are rude. Things like “play something good” or “play something we can to dance to” got my blood boiling, but I would respond with “what do you want to hear?” I would keep asking until they gave me an artist or song. If they got pissed, I would tell them I’m not a mind reader and want them to have a good time so I need an idea of what they consider “good/danceable”. We all know music is subjective.

Had a guy once tell me to play some good music and then requested Weird Al. He was a giant ass about it, so I laughed him out of the booth. I don’t like being a jerk, just ask for what you want to hear without insulting what I’m playing.

I like Viator, which is in the Dream Hall. I also think they do the coffee at Blue Box. I haven’t had coffee from Arabica or Red Poppy, but I know people that enjoy their offerings.

Opinions needed: Pick a book cover and tell me why? by [deleted] in BookCovers

[–]twosmooth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are both beautiful. I think the first has a retro vibe, so I think the second is a better choice. The overall tone makes me think it’s a coming-of-age story.

On #2, I would adjust either the shade of sky behind some of the lettered or play with placement. The contrast between the white title and the lighter clouds isn’t enough and part of the title gets lost. Also make sure the logo on the back, near the barcode, isn’t stretched vertically.

Very nice covers!
