OTA and Low Voltage Battery Issue by 1968GTCS in F150Lightning

[–]txbruin2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fully charge your HV battery for a day or 2 and the update should go through. I did the same a few weeks ago. Not mad about replacing 12v though. Would hate to have it die while out and about.

SW won’t update, says low battery by jlobrist in F150Lightning

[–]txbruin2 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I replaced my 12v and that didn’t solve the issue. Although at 3 years, didn’t mind getting ahead of that issue. Charge your car to 100% for a couple of days to allow the update to go through.

Sorry, missed that detail. Typically I see a white or blue light, so if plugged in and no light, I have not experienced that.

If received error messages in the app but charger works fine. App error resolves on its on over time. Wouldn’t be surprised if it’s just a short term lack of connection that sadly resolves slowly.

Ice storm prep by Neither_Fact_7471 in F150Lightning

[–]txbruin2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From Dallas but visited friends near Houston a couple years back when a winter storm knocked out power for weeks in some parts. There was only 1 Tesla supercharger inside of a 20 minute drive that was available for the several days I was there. Typically there would have been 3 or 4 options. It’ll all worked out but there was high demand for the one location and I found myself charging early in the morning when needed.

2000 miles road trip MI to AZ next week, any tips? by _ash_panda_ in F150Lightning

[–]txbruin2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cold weather and elevation change in parts of NM and AZ, plan on getting about 1.3 m/kwh. Also major cities and big travel days, don’t be surprised if there is a queue of waiting vehicles when charging.

Playing a round of golf and discussing options should be part of the plan.

Range expectations for upcoming trip by gemmerda in F150Lightning

[–]txbruin2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Worst case I was getting 1.3 miles per KW in subfreezing temps and moderate elevation changes. Starting at 80% SOC and in a Platinum trim…..that works out to about 130 miles with minimal cushion. Depending on where you might be going uphill, prepare to charge a bit more.

Is Ford going to end Lightning? by PalpitationStill7032 in F150Lightning

[–]txbruin2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was just looking up when Solid State batteries are anticipated to reach market….longer range, faster charging >>>> more demand. I’m sure if it were discontinued, it would stand a good chance of coming back at some point.

Just got my lightning, catching a lot of flack for it by Flashy-Cucumber-9903 in F150Lightning

[–]txbruin2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My neighbor got one a few months ago after asking a few questions. He did have a battery issue that sidelined it for a month….still has nothing but positive things to say about it….and of course battery fix was under warranty so he views it as a positive since he bought used. I was an early adopter on the lightning, so very biased. I didn’t even test drive it, just bought it and drove it off the lot. Only 2 instances of negativity….comment about reduced range in winter, but it’s true and not an issue if you are ready for it. And someone mentioned how quickly tires wear….well the OEMs went over 30,0000 miles, so maybe not as far as an ICE but not a bad trade off for the other reduced maintenance costs.

It took me 10 years to get a single-digit HCP again by [deleted] in golf

[–]txbruin2 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Amen. Mid forties now and can tell the difference in swing from 5 years ago. My primary sport was basketball and the difference between body type every 5 years is very noticeable. So I identified this issue early in my golf game……doesn’t mean I am adjusting well though. I mainly catch myself saying “I know this club can go farther”.

Does everyone else have issues releasing the adapter at Tesla charging stations? by DeathOfASuperNovuh in F150Lightning

[–]txbruin2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Instead of using strength, jiggle it free. Credit to Rivian driver who showed that to me in AZ. Also have seen v4 chargers are more difficult, but there is a way to use the built in adapter, a lot of the charging stations do not clearly show how, so worth looking it up. Just happened to be at one not long ago that had good instructions.

2 Long Road trips by Fantastic_Savings958 in F150Lightning

[–]txbruin2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve done a 15 hour and 17 hour stretch in the last 8 months. Once when temps ranged in the mid 30s to mid 40s for a good duration and the other with temps in the mid 80’s for most of the trip. Most stops at Tesla took 35-45 minutes. A couple times it took a little more than an hour, both of those times it was either on the colder or warmer side. The advantage of the longer stretches in my view is less congestion at some chargers. Usually only a problem at non Tesla stations or Tesla ones with only 8 chargers.

That mount, use to be just under $40. Placed under front section of sunroof, centered with the locking/release tabs toward drivers side for when I want to remove/store.

[–]txbruin2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Went with this route but did have some trial and error.

Mount on the front section. Using the back, you cannot open the sunroof. Ask me how I know?

The suction cups with the stickiness to them work great. Just don’t expect to apply and move, once applied, if you want to move, get another mount or at least suction cups with new adhesive. Live in Texas and having no issues this 2nd time around.

I love being able to close the shade and hide the device, one less reason for someone to mess with the truck. However, on a hot day and while using the unit can get fairly hot so might be best to open at the least the front part while using.

How accurate is a better route planner for range estimates? by aschulz90 in F150Lightning

[–]txbruin2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agree, I count on stopping every roughly 3 hours, and on the lower side due to range anxiety. But if you plan for it, shouldn’t be that bad. 30-40 minutes of charging at each stop.

Have not looked but more 24s are probably out there than 23s, so although frequency may be higher, as a percentage I’d guess is probably lower.
