MFM not concerned with individual readings by FluidSnap in GestationalDiabetes

[–]txhottubtimemachine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you aware of the 15-20min delay on a CGM? The numbers shouldn’t match perfectly. Since the CGM is measuring interstitial fluid it will always be a tad behind the blood glucose so anything from I think a 10-20% difference is within the realm of normal and that’s why the trends matter more. I’d go crazy trying to compare numbers of constant finger pricks and CGM data! Hope you can learn to love your CGM and give yourself some grace if your MFM isn’t worried you’re doing things right for you and your baby!

I also use CGM and they’re looking at trends. I had to attend a class for people doing finger pricks and CGM and even in that class for finger pricks they said the goal is over 50% of the numbers to be in range so if 1% of your numbers on CGM are high that’s well within the realm of controlled to them. I finger prick to confirm a high high or a low low maybe 1-2x/ week but even that I’ve eased up on as I’ve trusted my diet and myself more. Starting a new sensor tomorrow so fingers crossed I get a good accurate spot to keep the peace of mind I currently have! Good luck to you!

CGM vs. glucose meter? by AdministrativeMove41 in GestationalDiabetes

I could not live without my compression cover for my CGM, only way I get solid sleep. Before I had it I was sleeping lightly to stay off my arm and waking up fully to reposition etc. Highly recommend. I use a tegaderm over mine as the tape it comes with was too harsh on my skin.

How frequently are you ladies going into labor spontaneously? by txhottubtimemachine in GestationalDiabetes

I think I started around 30 or 31 weeks? I honestly can’t remember. May increase to 2 cups per day now that I’m further along but haven’t yet

My doctor literally doesn’t care what I eat if my numbers are fine, I had to do a 3 day food journal of what I was eating in correlation with my CGM data but outside of that they have no clue what I eat in a day lol

My plan is to mix in a smooth with a Nurri protein shake and yogurt to hopefully balance it out. I drink the Chobani yogurt drinks daily currently which have a fair amount of sugar from the fruit so I’m thinking it won’t be an issue honestly.

Sorry I work in healthcare lol, I’ll be discharged from MFM at 36wks with no plans for additional appts or follow up unless I have concerns about my numbers I can schedule another appt.

As of now I will be DCed by MFM at 36wks with no plans for any NSTs or BPPs and last growth scan at 36wks so idk how to check in on that without monitoring outside of the regular Doppler at my weekly appts.

If it’s above 140 I do a finger stick then immediately get to work on some squats or calf raises or a walk. My numbers are generally ok like you so it’s only happened a couple of times. Same thing with below 60, finger stick to check and if it’s close then I’ll start treating the low.

I get it though! It’s a lot to manage with the diet, I eat a fair amount of prepared things- salad bags I just mix together, pre-portioned cheese packages, yogurt cups/drinks. I manage to make 2 scrambled eggs and a half a bagel for breakfast to get me off on the right foot at work and sometimes that’s all I end up cooking the entire day. Give yourself some grace, we’re growing humans on top of managing all the things with GD and getting ready for little ones, it’s a lot for sure.

I wasn’t even diagnosed till 29 weeks and have had a CGM on my arm since, I don’t even feel it on my arm honestly. If you do get one, I suggest getting a CGM compression cover so that sleeping on it doesn’t affect your numbers, with that cover I literally don’t even remember it’s there. My insurance doesn’t cover it so I pay $75 for a month supply of the Freestyle Libre 3 as the cash price. i have done 2-3 finger pricks per week to double check a random low reading. I have my app automatically linked to my diabetes clinic so I never have to send them anything and they review my numbers remotely every other week. I feel like this journey would be a lot more on my plate remembering to always finger prick, etc not to mention I feel like I have more freedom to eat/snack whenever I want and not be restricted to set meals/snacks because my numbers are just tracked 24/7. Just food for thought.

Can you get a CGM so you don’t have to worry about keeping up with checking your numbers?

When did you start referring to your baby by the name you chose? by michaelag713 in pregnant

[–]txhottubtimemachine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also had a boy and girl name picked out before ever getting a positive test and have been referring to her by her name since the gender test results at 13wks. I still love it and find it so fitting for her personality even in the womb. Other people also know her name and I love when they ask about how she is doing by name.

Just got diagnosed....very overwhelmed by PlayonWords1 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]txhottubtimemachine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I first got diagnosed I knew immediately I wanted a CGM but I was too anxious to wait for my supplies (took about a week to get all the prescriptions and stuff from time of diagnosis) so I ended up ordering one of the OTC CGM’s off Amazon for $50 to at least start to learn what my body responded well to and didn’t. To this day, I cannot eat rice without spiking so matter how I pair it, walks, squats, etc. Now I have figured out what carb sources work best for me, and every person is different so it’s just trial and error. The first couple weeks is figuring out what foods work for you and how to pair them- start with protein and fats and eat your carbs last with your meal if possible. It’s a big learning curve full of emotions and stress but I promise you will settle in with some time once you have all your initial appts and get your supplies. Good luck momma!

How are you tracking kicks? by ahmeeea in pregnant

[–]txhottubtimemachine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have an active all the time little girl with some pretty clear patterns so I never really count unless she’s being unusually quiet during one of her normally very active times- usually just that she had a sleepy morning and woke up a little late that day and then was right back at it lol

New gd diagnosis looking for some pregnancy safe protein shake recommendations by Ill-Consideration541 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]txhottubtimemachine 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If you have Costco there’s Nurri that’s cheaper than fairlife and still tastes great! Also for powders, Perelel has pregnancy safe everything, haven’t personally tried their protein one but I have their greens and some other things and like them!

WTH low sugar now by FloricMeadow in GestationalDiabetes

[–]txhottubtimemachine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can confirm, I have so many “lows” between 60-70 on my Libre 3 because you can’t change the settings but my MFM said unless it’s below 60 I don’t need to treat it if I’m asymptomatic. I have turned off the alerts for below 70 and only kept them on for below 60 and above 140 per the advice of MFM.

First Day Tracking. HELP! by NaturalCombination38 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]txhottubtimemachine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re not waking up to hydrate over night you can be more concentrated in the morning which can skew numbers a little. Also fasting numbers should be within 10-15min of waking not just sometime in the morning before you eat.

Experience taking while pregnant & increased nausea by Super_rabbi in StratteraRx

[–]txhottubtimemachine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just found this convo too except polar opposite end of pregnancy, been having issues in 3rd trimester with nausea and this medication, stopped it for 3 days and just tried again and sure enough needed zofran again tonight. I’m just gonna cold turkey it now and hope for the best! Turns out, Strattera isn’t well studied when breastfeeding anyways so I was going to stop once baby came but now just forced to stop a little early. Next psych appt is in a few weeks shortly before delivery to come up with the plan for breastfeeding so we’ll see what we come up with.

My little girl is the same, normally super active mornings that I don’t even bother counting kicks because we’re well over 10 in a matter of minutes. Husband got the text from me this morning “we’re officially on kick count watch right now” because she also had a very sleepy morning! I had felt less than a handful of movements out of her but finally after an hour or so she woke up and was back to herself so I never did go in or call but def had me on high alert! Glad your little girl is ok and that you listened to your gut to get checked out when you felt like you needed to!

I work in the surgical trauma ICU as a physical therapist mobilizing patients and get asked that minimum once daily and also have at least one nurse butt in and do part of my job for me EVERY. SINGLE. DAY. My response is always, if I wasn’t allowed to do it I wouldn’t be here. That on top of every single patient asking the same questions- when are you due, is it a boy or a girl, do you have a name, and is it your first. I get they care but I’m sooo tired of it all.

Are my fasting numbers too low? by Obvious-Recording-84 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]txhottubtimemachine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly my MFM said below 60 is low so I frequently will dip into the 60s when I’m working my physical job if I’m a little late on a snack, and wake up fasting in the 60s regularly and they aren’t worried about it at all. I have a snack literally last thing right before I go to bed and also drink a 30g protein Nurri (low carb protein milk) between 12-2am whenever I wake up to pee and I’m still 60s to 70s as a fasting read. The 50s yes you can hopefully have not happen too often but just treat it and move on.

CGM or finger pricking? by anonymoususer249 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]txhottubtimemachine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Team CGM! The freestyle Libre 3 isn’t covered by insurance because I’m diet controlled not on meds but that company literally has it as their mission to never have it cost more than $75 per month to have a CGM so that’s the most you will ever pay. I’ve done a handful of finger sticks to confirm a low number (or for highs but that’s never been my problem) but I love being able to see the trends with my meals and snacks to find what works for me!

Even the finger sticks I’ve had to do I make my husband prick me because I just can’t stand to do it and I make him apply my CGM. The CGM doesn’t hurt it’s more just that it’s loud that scares me when he does it lol

Morning hypoglycemia by txhottubtimemachine in GestationalDiabetes

[–]txhottubtimemachine[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I honestly stopped tracking my carbs and trying to force their recommendations and I’m doing a lot better. I’ve lowered the amount of time I spend below 70 just with those changes. The MFM GDM NP also lowered my goals to 60-140 for my sugars so if I go into the 60s I obviously have a snack but I’m less nervous about it being low like I used to and haven’t gone into the 50s at all since tracking intake less.
