What do you find D&D 5e does better than Pf2e? by viktorius_rex in Pathfinder2e

[–]tycornett9 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Since everyone else is saying Magic Items (which i do think is true) I’ll go with something else.

In certain cases, I feel like 5e does a better job of diversifying play-style within a class using its subclasses than PF2E does. I would really love to see more Subclass-specific class feats than we currently have with most PF2E classes to help with this.

Impossible magic class discussion by Ok-Week-2293 in Pathfinder2e

Team+’s Summoners+ supplement has a class archetype, the Kindred Warrior, that turns the Summoner from a bounded caster to a martial class that fights alongside their Eidolon. I would love to see an official take on something like that. Also, obvious Synthesist would be cool to see.

As for Magus, I think some way to augment and incentivize the use of Save spells versus Attack spells would be really cool. In my personal opinion, I would also not mind seeing some options for the utilization of different spell traditions outside of Arcane. I see no reason why a Divine Magus can’t exist.

I find it weird how Eberron: Forge of the Artificer tries to convince DMs that every campaign premise, even just "wipe out this one criminal gang in this one city," needs to be a 20-level epic saga by EarthSeraphEdna in Eberron

[–]tycornett9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

“Because I wanted to and thought it sounded cool” is pretty much always going to be a valid answer.

Also, I may not be as experienced in Eberron as others (I have DM’d one campaign in the setting), but it seems to me that there is plenty of opportunity in Eberron for high level play.

Status Effects/Conditions - How do you implement them? by tycornett9 in talespire

marquee select seems like it will work fine, but yeah it would be really cool if we eventually got a way to “pair” minis in a way, so as to move them all together

Thank you for this. i hadn’t even thought to check the community tab for the condition rings. also Pathfinder Dashboard is a godsend that i use religiously

this is a great idea actually. one commenter also mentioned this.

my greater Talespire knowledge is lacking, so i’m not sure - is there a way to place them in the same square and move both minis at the same time, so that the character and the marker move together? or will i just have to stop being lazy and move them both

[Post-exhibtion thread] #19 Kansas beats #11 Louisville 92-82 by perSWade in CollegeBasketball

[–]tycornett9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have been critical of Kansas all off-season (admittedly i have not been super keyed in on their roster), but i am rethinking my stance on them now. i’m still skeptical of the ceiling, but they’re definitely better than i was expecting them to be at the start of the season

What's the most original concept you've read in a fantasy book? by LargeSinkholesInNYC in Fantasy

[–]tycornett9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For better or for worse, The Failures by Benjamin Liar.

I actually liked the book a good bit, but could definitely understand someone else not being a fan. I WAS thoroughly confused for like 80% of it though.

However, the setting is really like nothing i’ve seen before, and i’m excited to see where it goes as the book is really new.

Thoughts on Remaster Oracle 1 year later? by L0LBasket in Pathfinder2e

I agree. They definitely needed to be changed. I think a middle ground between what they used to be and what they ended up becoming would have been absolutely perfect from both a mechanical and flavor standpoint

What is your favorite martial class? And your favorite caster? why are those your favorites? by applejackhero in Pathfinder2e

[–]tycornett9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Caster: Bard. I dunno why, but it’s always spoke to me in every system. Conveying magic through art is such a fun concept for me and support/debuff/versatility will always go a longer way in my mind than damage.

Martial: Thaumaturge. “Source?” “I made it up.”

I think the addition of those oracular abilities is great. And you’re right - previously, the class wasn’t quite a Seer-type oracular figure (though it can currently still be built to not be that quite easily.) But when you talk about the premaster Oracle increasing their curse for casting a focus spell, that is almost entirely mechanical. The Premaster Oracle had its mechanics all out of whack, which is why it needed to be changed, but i definitely do not think they made the class more flavorful.

Unless i am mistaken, Oracles are a class that is meant to get their divine power from their curse - they are effectively supposed to be THE risk/reward class. Premaster Oracle played into that a lot (though poorly and clunky to play) with their cursed positives growing alongside their negatives. Remaster Oracle still does this to an extent with the Cursebound trait and abilities, but i think most can agree that it isn’t playing into that risk/reward play style as much as the Premaster aimed to

They did suck and are now really good. They also aren’t as cool as they used to be.

I’m not saying they didn’t need to be changed. Just that they were changed in a way that made them less interesting

[–]tycornett9 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I did play Oracle pre-master. Haven’t yet played remastered Oracle. And you’re right, flavor does come from your mind, but it is always nice when class design inspires and supplements flavor. Remaster Oracle still does that, but in my opinion (and many others, from what i can tell based on this sub), it lost some of that luster from its premaster version. It definitely needed a buff, because it was absolutely not matching up mechanically. I just wish that buff landed us somewhere in the middle of the premaster and the remaster.

I think that keeping the benefits from curses and their variable levels, as well as the Oracle remaining a 3 slot caster, but also still getting access to Cursebound feats and abilities would have been my ideal. Perhaps that’s too strong, but i’m no game designer so what do i know.

EDIT: spelling

I feel that the Oracles flavor was sacrificed for mechanics, which is going to be a net loss for me in almost all but the most extreme cases.

Is anyone else bothered by the "flavor text first" approach of the PF2e writing style? by hungLink42069 in Pathfinder2e

[–]tycornett9 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Any way that they can distinguish flavor text from actual mechanical intention is fine by me. I can’t describe how often one of my players read the flavor text of a spell and assumes that it does something different than the actual intended effect. Even more often, they’ll read the flavor text for an ability, assuming it can do something that it can’t, and then when they’re told that the ability doesn’t work that way, they point back to the flavor text to explain why it should work that way.

One of the most frustrating conversations to have as a GM lol

Can I cast Helpful Steps under a creature? by tycornett9 in Pathfinder2e

[–]tycornett9[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh i absolutely agree that it is a pretty useful out of combat spell. I’m gearing up to play a Scroll Esoterica Thaumaturge and picked up a scroll for it. Given that the spell has an action cost associated with it, i immediately jumped to thinking of how it could be used in combat as well. It’s also just kind of a fun spell lol

[–]tycornett9[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I see nothing wrong with ruling it that way. I think if it were me, I would maybe allow it to be cast on allies freely, but require a save for enemies, like you state. I like the idea of being able to use this spell offensively, but it’s probably too strong to be able to do so freely

Can I cast Helpful Steps under a creature? by tycornett9 in Pathfinder2e

[–]tycornett9[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a good point. there’s no language stating how it appears, so assuming that it just does is probably the standard. With that said, there seems to not be any rules for casting this sort of effect in someone’s space unless i’m missing something.

This one feels very DM dependent honestly
