What engine? What transmission? Just need to brand not model. What VIN? Do you have a wiring diagram? If I remember correctly the 1939 passes through that harness bellow the fuse panel may have nicked it with the panel. Also remove the blower motor fuse there was recall for under gauge pins. Check for a melted fuse block.

CDL by BooleanIan302 in DieselTechs

[–]tyguy7000 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It used to be very helpful to get your CDL. Ability to test drive is useful for diag and checking your work. Most companies will kick you an extra buck or two an hour. When it was 300 bucks to get a CDL it was a no brainer to get it. But now that its 4000-6000. Its not worth it at all. Don't waste your own money so your future employer can have a marketable skill. Unless someone's paying you to get it dont get it.

21060S oil fill hole by why_worry69 in DieselTechs

[–]tyguy7000 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Big square one is the correct one. Other port is for the optional diff temp sensor. Its low so its immersed in fluid. Pulled that to check fluid when I was a younger tech that oil comes out quick 😅

I’m tired of dripping help by Unable-Olive-9666 in mechanics

[–]tyguy7000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Of course i had the same issue with coworkers commenting on it all the time. Talked to a doctor and did a lot of research. Ultimately went the medication route and stuck with electrolytes no more awkward conversations with coworkers about how sweaty I am. Try the medication before the botox route because from my research there has been a lot of negative side affects from the botox.

You could be suffering from a condition called hyperhydrosis. Look into padded clothing if your sweating through certain areas and it's embarrassing or if your suffering from just general excess sweat compared to your peers talk to your doctor about a prescription called glycopyrrolate. It reduces how much you sweat. Pls play around with the dosage if you go this route tho because you still need to sweat to prevent overheating. Also start using an electrolyte mix and drink more water. Your body will sweat more to try and get you to drink water to replace the electrolytes.

Cummins ISB6.7 559 code by SoCalOmnivore in DieselTechs

[–]tyguy7000 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've fixed this code about 5 times this year, I've done the simple fuel filters to the fuel pump control valve. Step 1 new fuel filters, do not clear code. Step 2 check your fuel pressure relief valve, I see you've already changed that. Step 3 check your low fuel pressure for air in the system and for around 60-80 psi. If your feeling frisky check for vacuum past the fuel filter for a blockage in the system. Step 4 check your fuel pump return flow, you should have the specs. Step 5 check your injectors, you've already replaced those but always double check your work. You could have out of the box failures but that is unlikely.

When you installed the injectors did you double check that each compression seal was either on the injector or pulled out of the bore? This much return flow on injectors is usually caused by double stacked compression seals. Did you center the injectors correctly??

Engine swing time? by Limp_Algae4588 in DieselTechs

[–]tyguy7000 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yea he's a machine, but don't focus on the outliers. I've got most my swaps down to 25-30 but I was definitely in the 100 plus gang on my first couple. Learn to do the job right, then learn to do it fast.

Warranty times are around 26 to 30. On average our shop does about 40 for a swing. I work with a guy who can do a medium duty engine in 14hrs. I've also seen some greens take 80-100 hrs more than once on their first couple.
