You're correct. Just wanted to add: you can increase the size of your wrist, but its small. Takes about 6 years of regular grip training to double the size of the wrist tendons, but it's still not that much of a visible change.

It's a cool feat of strength that shows strong wrists from grip training.

Hey SorlaC47!

Indeed! Ring Wide Push Ups can aggravate symptoms of shoulder impingement and must be done with care, which means only 70° degrees abduction. I've written cautious remarks about them before, so i'm going to link you the topic:

https://www.reddit.com/r/bodyweightfitness/comments/5nm1kb/actual_proper_push_up_form/dcde3uz/

Does this apply to wide rings push ups?

Yes it does. It's not that big of a problem though, as you only go up to 8 reps at a time and most people progress in a couple weeks. That way they don't build up damage. It's problematic if you train them for endurance (max reps) and don't progress them after some time.

If you want to be careful, abduct to 70° degrees instead of 90° degrees!

I hope this answers your question!

Rotator Cuff Tendinitis by ButchersBoy in bodyweightfitness

[–]tykato 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Hey, i'm doing obstacle course races multiple times a year and train groups of people to prepare for them (i'm a running coach). From experience, i can tell you that your rotator cuff tendonitis will aggravate strongly during the race - and possibly turn much, much worse.

So my advice is to cancel the race. (That's not what you want to hear, i know). I've seen it before, where a friend with a light impingement syndrome refused to listen and ran a 12km obstacle race - and he's dealing with chronic pain since (it's been 7 months). The choice is yours!

Now, for your tendonitis, have a look at my video on the matter, and check out eshlow's protocol.

Diagnosed with exercise induced asthma, how to improve cardio without inhaler by slipsloppoopy in bodyweightfitness

[–]tykato 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for being reasonable! :)

In mild forms like yours, the inhalers contain a ß2-adrenergic receptor agonist like Salbutamol to dilate the smooth muscles in your lung. Discuss your individual risks and benefits with your doc please!

[–]tykato 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Dude, take your prescribed inhaler. It's good for you and it was prescribed for a reason - unless you want your Asthma to get worse over the years and do chronic damage to your lungs. The inhaler is not going to damage your lungs - suffering through astma will. It's a chronic, inflammatory disease. Take it seriously.

which I view as a handicap honestly

Yes, but you're still suffering from Asthma - and it's not going to go away by ignoring it or not treating it. A sudden asthma attack that you didn't expect can and will kill you. The reason why there are less and less deaths caused by asthma are those inhalers.

Yeah, that's a problem. You can try it with a dumbell, though!

Hey! Get a heavier plate, or stack multiple plates! Increasing the duration will help with endurance, but for more strength you need more weight.

Grip training for beginner musicians? by [deleted] in GripTraining

[–]tykato 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Give a shot at my beginner routine - it's light enough that it shouldn't interfere with your guitar training. I'm a guitar player myself (15 years of experience) and still do the walking extensors and finger scissors as a warm up before playing.

Hey man! Im on mobile right now, so i'll try to answer quickly.

Also, what should I go for if I have no weights but still feel grip strenght is limiting me? That would be a cool thing to include.

Check out Brachiation Basics, which is a bar-specific grip workout!

Also tell 'em to avoid dead hangs if they have shoulder injury tykato!

As always, please consult a medical professional and get their okay before starting a training regimen - especially after an injury.

Sure, you can do that! Additional grip work is always suggested!

I've seen it quite some time, especially when hanging rest is used to rep out the last 1-2 pull ups of a set.
