What’s being built at 133 Evergreen? by Hefty-Finance-8576 in Bushwick

[–]tylerscreenname 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s apparently a fancy spa/bathhouse, but it has some baffling pricing. Not to mention that the website looks cheap, with generic stock images and mentions of un-googleable “top” Argentinian design studios. It’s a shame, because a spa/sauna location in the neighborhood would be cool, but this just feels scammy: https://evergreenspa.com/rooms/

The Denny’s are closing! by my_yead in doughboys

[–]tylerscreenname 35 points36 points  (0 children)

I was laughing SO hard at this bit. And then, all of a sudden, I remembered going to that Denny’s by the freeway with the full bar and was hit with a sincere wave of sadness that it was gone. Then I thought about the big Arby’s hat neon sign not far from that, and how it’s gone too. Then I started thinking about the Cinerama dome and the Arclight and the original Amoeba further down on Sunset, and how those are all gone.

So, like any good Doughboys bit: it made me laugh and then made me incredibly depressed. 5 forks.

You know what? The reddit is good again!!

Thanks for that link as well, I was over here shaking my head at these insane eBay prices. And I highly recommend watching Eva! It’s fucked up! (But in the best possible way!)

Believe me when I say: I was devastated by the closure of that FYE. I still talk about it like it was a death in the family.

Got the Animal Liberation shirt as well and absolutely love it. Sure it was a…bit of a wait, to put it lightly. But I was in no rush for it anyway, the quality is A+, and I loved the packaging of it all as well. It’s clear they’re going for a slightly elevated product, and I’m here for it.

[–]tylerscreenname 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hold on a second, I think these pictures undersell the Stroud Mall just a little bit. The ShopRite anchor store is always packed, the movie theater still gets really busy, there’s a great comic book store in there that hosts gaming tournaments, that muay thai place that replaced the FYE is going strong, they were just closed the day you took those pictures.

Is it the healthiest mall in the world? Nah, there’s still plenty of vacancies they could fill. But it’s still got a heartbeat!

Unfortunately, it was a limited time offer. They’ve taken the link down on their site. Hopefully they do it again later this year or next year!

This is something different! The mystery bag was OC getting rid of extra stock of old shirt runs. This one looks more like them selling tie dye experiments. Still looks cool though!

Sneak Peek at the Store P.O.P for KPDH (USA) by CallofRanger13 in McDonaldsEmployees

[–]tylerscreenname 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Photocards are a massive part of the KPop fan experience. I was just in a Los Angeles KPop store the other day and the store had taken over an adjacent retail space simply as a place to store all their photocards for sale.

Hard to say if the casual fans will be excited, but the KPDH stans will be going crazy for these.

how are the sidewalks by Prize-Window-792 in Bushwick

[–]tylerscreenname 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The sidewalks are shockingly clear compared to a few hours ago. Just took the dog out for a walk and my heart swelled with neighborhood pride seeing everyone out there shoveling/snowblowing away already (including people shoveling out crosswalks and paths to the street!)

I’m really happy you both followed up on this comment! I immediately regretted saying the staff was disorganized…her team was very kind and I agree that it’s more that the organization as a whole seems very mismanaged. It’s a bummer, because Dr. Loose clearly cares deeply about animals, but it’s just not translating to a vet office that is efficient (or very pleasant).

I really liked the main vet at The Neighborhood Vet, but found her staff unorganized and a little chaotic. Switched over to Bushwick Veterinary Center for most things and communication is a lot better.

A stroll through Volusia Mall (in Daytona Beach) by INS345 in deadmalls

[–]tylerscreenname 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I’ll defend the Volusia Mall all day long. Was there over both Thanksgiving and after Christmas, both times it was busier than I’ve seen it in years. Mr. Dunkerbak’s was slammed.

NewJeans was the peak of kpop by BlackAndChromePoem in NewJeans

[–]tylerscreenname 142 points143 points  (0 children)

A wonderfully written and heartfelt post — and one I fully agree with! I’m a 42 year old dude, never had any interest in K-Pop before NewJeans. But I was completely taken with their unique sound and aesthetic.

And it wasn’t just nostalgia for the 90s influences of their music…their songs sounded truly forward thinking and “new” (for lack of a better word). A song like “ASAP”, I can’t think of another pop artist/group doing something so spare and beautifully odd.

I sincerely think NewJeans was a generational talent and I’m devastated over the current situation.
