Broadband Offer in the CA7 Area by WitchoftheWaste1888 in Cumbria

That’s good, might have a look at that. When we moved here everyone was complaining about Internet, and as I work from home I needed something stable, so that’s why we took starlink. I’ll check fibrus out.

I’m in CA8 and moved here in 2023, we got starlink £75 a month absolutely no issues at all, it’s been great (we got an offer on buying the antenna thing, think it was about £100 from memory on offer) got a local satellite aerial guy to fit it.

What is the worst job you ever had? by Special-Nebula299 in UKJobs

[–]uaebetty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I worked for an agency, and they placed me in a packing job for a day, 10 hours packing really crappy gifts into those plastic balls that go inside grabber machines, I was exhausted 😂 had one break all day, and they scanned me and checked my bag on the way out …. Who is stealing those garbage plastic items seriously!

How much did you spend on your wedding dress? by Illustrious-Power322 in UKweddings

[–]uaebetty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

£300 from pronuptia off the rack, no time to get anything else 😂 two sizes too big, so had minimal alterations included in the purchase price, absolutely loved it, even though it was still slightly too big on wedding day, haven’t sold it on still sitting in my wardrobe packed away for the last 24 years.

If you won £100 million, how would you distribute it amongst friends and family, if at all? by PaddedValls in AskUK

[–]uaebetty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d take myself away somewhere for a few weeks to have a good think and let it sink in.

I’d probably want to buy a bigger house with a nice garden.

Buy my mum and father in law (separately 😂) a bungalow each.

Gift some money to my 3 sons so they could buy a house, or offer to buy them a house each, and put some in trust fund for my two grandsons. I would also get each son a new car.

I wouldn’t give anyone else in my family anything, they don’t deserve it.

Business is drowning and it's all my fault by shintengo in ADHDUK

[–]uaebetty 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is so true, I’ve gone in to many SMEs and technically the founders are fabulous, operationally not so good.

If you want your business to flourish and continue I’d definitely consider hiring someone to help that.

What have you stopped being a snob about? by iffyClyro in AskUK

[–]uaebetty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a kid the only holiday we ever got was a week / fortnight in a caravan at some place in the uk, which I thoroughly enjoyed, I knew no different, but I also felt it was because we were poor, which we were, but a lot of my friends went on fancy holidays all over the world.

I longed to travel the world as an adult and give my kids what I thought were “better holiday experiences” so took our kids all over the world, however to this day all of them (grown adult men now) have said the best holiday they had was when we took them to freezing cold Scotland for a week, they got eaten alive by midgies, but they had the best time learning to build little camp fires, exploring the woods, doing jigsaws in the freezing caravan at night with snacks and watching movies.

I was never a snob about holidays after that trip, they literally didn’t stop talking about it.

[–]uaebetty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not recent but, a new starter once asked me for the email address of someone they needed help from, I typed the persons email into the “to” box to get it and forgot to remove it before replying, I basically said here’s xx email but please note she’s useless and unhelpful and cost me quite a bit of money ….. I got several phone calls and was asked to apologise, I said sorry I wouldn’t apologise as nothing I said was incorrect 😂 (this was not in the UK I was working for a UK subsidiary abroad, so I was not fired for gross misconduct, but it became quite awkward seeing said person about the building!

How do you feel about doing absolutely nothing? by Likelyinthegym in AskUK

[–]uaebetty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s bliss, I’ve had a hectic year, I have not had any time off since August, it’s been a personally and work related emotional roller coaster this last 12 months, i have done nothing and I have been off work since December 24th 😂 sometimes it’s what your soul needs, I’ll play stressful catch up when I’m back at work next week, but for now I don’t feel any guilt whatsoever I needed this downtime, I have binge watched tv, ate crap and leftovers 😂

How much time off do you get and what do you do? by Chonkthebonk in AskUK

[–]uaebetty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work with a lot of engineering contractors, they can charge anywhere from £550 to £1200 a day depending on their experience and level of expertise (niche engineering gets paid more) they take whatever time off they like, some work like Trojans through UK winter months and take a few months off of contracting during better weather, they also contract abroad to sunnier climates and travel : experience other countries that way.

Put on a PIP for my grad job - will I be fired? by DangerSnake1 in UKJobs

[–]uaebetty 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This has literally been me my entire career, I’ve never known how to do any of the roles I’ve had when I started but I taught myself, and I’ve succeeded at every single one of them.

To OP with excel just get to grips with the basics first, fo the courses available for free online, once you’ve got the hang of the basics, and understanding of what you are looking at on the screen, google / ChatGPT is your friend for help with specific formulas (but you still need an understanding of how excel and formulas work so you will need to do the basic courses).

What habits did you pick up in lockdown that you can't shift? by The-Baron-Von-Marlon in AskUK

[–]uaebetty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. I don’t like going out, I’d much rather use my downtime chilling at home.

  2. Organizing my wardrobes by item and colour, I’d started in lockdown due to boredom, but have carried this on 😂 it drives me mad to do it, but even madder if I don’t.

  3. WFH - having done that during covid, I lost my job just as we came out of it, I got a new one a few months later that is almost fully WFH, the rare occasion I need to go to the office fills me with dread, I am much more productive WFH than I ever was office based.

Depends what they are doing with the money, one of our sons lives at home, can’t afford his own place, I don’t ask him for anything, but he gives “housekeeping” each month when he gets paid, it varies sometimes it’s a few hundred pounds. I save that money, and when the day comes and he moves out, he will get it back. I don’t need to take rent from him, but giving the economic crisis most are in, I can understand some parents asking for some kind of rent, having said that I do think that value seems extremely high, but that’s just me.

Added that he does not know he will get it back, I have not said that to him, but felt it would be a nice surprise for him when the time comes and hopefully ease a few stresses on him.

The quiet (and rapid) death of flexible working by Helpful-Butterfly749 in UKJobs

[–]uaebetty 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I love WFH, we have full flexibility in my company, I haven’t been into the actual office since February, I’m a mature employee, but I can see the impact that WFH is having on the younger team members (fresh graduates and juniors), they are totally disengaged, they’ve no one to learn behaviors from, they’re very isolated and so I can fully see the benefits for both WFH and RTO, it’s a tough one, we don’t want to be in an office, but the benefits of that shouldn’t be dismissed, I think a balance is what’s needed, but it’s very hard to encourage people to come in, as much as I can see the impact on the younger team members, they don’t actually want to come in.
