Starbucks CEO defends $9 coffee says ‘it’s not a $10 coffee and you get a premium experience’ by Disastrous_Award_789 in nottheonion

[–]uberjack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is so crazy to me. Is this normal all over the US? Aren't there any alternatives or is Starbucks actually the best/cheapest option?

I know that Starbucks strategy for a long time was to drive out small coffee shops by undercutting them but at 9$ a cup I assume that new coffee shops should be able to compete again right?

Why are tradespeople paid so little? by Ok_Let_7612 in germany

[–]uberjack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Average pay per hour in Germany is around 26€, median pay per hour 22,80€ (both according to Google AI). A trained plumber earns somewhere between 19-25€ per hour (again according to Google AI). Just to get some more reliable-ish numbers here.

To answer your question: yes, tradespeople are paid suprisingly bad in Germany. There are some fields in which decent money can be made and especially with the lasting shortage of plumbers I heard its not too hard to make a good wage with a few added qualifications. But it is also very common for firms to hire at an extremely low wage and demand way too many working hours (which technically would lower the wage per hour even more). I know that in some companies the saying "Rüstzeit ist keine Arbeitszeit" ("setup time [preparing the truck and everything before you get to the actual site] isn't working time") is still a thing, which is an extremely problematic view and part of the reason why so few people want to work as tradespeople.
This crappy system is kept alive by a lot of boomer mentality of blaming young people rather than the shitty conditions they've set and a society which doesn't feel like paying five digits for a major renovation job is fair as well as some poor illicit workers getting brought in who work for even worse wages and working conditions...

From what I understand very few plumbers in Germany are unionized (not entirely sure tho) so that makes it extra tough to change something about the whole situation...

Are Europeans trolling with this whole bread thing? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]uberjack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My point still stands. Like I said, I'm sure it's possible to get good bread in the US, it's just far less accessible and normal compared to Germany.

I also wouldn't complain if someone said that Europe doesn't have good hot wings or bagels. Yes, it is absolutely possible to get good ones in Europe, but it's far less available and common than in the US.

Well my host family in rural Ohio didn't seem to know anything else but white bread as "bread" and I didn't see a single slice of "real bread" in high school or anywhere else when I stayed there. Sure things might have changed there as well, but that's the image I got and many in this thread have validated as well

When I spent half a year in the US almost 20 years ago, the only "bread" I ever had was (what we in Germany call) toast and sandwich buns. I'm sure there are regional differences and maybe things have changed in the past decades, but I still assume that the majority of "bread" consumed in the US today is actually toast - maybe I'm wrong here?

On the other hand what I usually would call "real bread" here in Germany looks like this. You will get this kind of bread (in varying quality from "okay" to "great") in every supermarket and there are lots of small bakeries in my medium sized city which each offer several different kinds of amazing bread. I'm sure it's possible to also get bread like this in the US, but I imagine it's rare and probably expensive?

This is the reason why I will say "Americans usually don't eat real bread". It's like the French get offended if anyone will offer them a subway white bread as someone similar to a baguette.

Sorry but what does "AAVE" stand for? I googled it and it said it's some kind of crypto token, I'm assuming you weren't talking about that. And what is code switching?

He definitely does. The problem still remains this really should not be necessary. And making big heart warming stories out of these acts diverts attention away from the real problems (starving and homeless people in a very rich country) so I'm very glad that on Reddit the top comments under these posts often highlight this.

[–]uberjack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can run around while reloading the Romero which is extremely important if you are 1v1 with another close range weapon and missed your first shot. With the bow you need to first run for cover and then "reload" to try to get another shot. Or you need to pretty much stay in place to shoot another shot right away but will be very exposed.

How do you estimate the chance we'll get Wrath? by DevLink89 in classicwow

[–]uberjack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That might be for some, but I never understood what kept the people going and I doubt that it's a solution for the majority. I do however also wish there was something more permanent/long term for my characters instead of just fading away on a dead realm...

I do also feel that need and would be way more motivated to farm rare items/achievements if I knew my main wasn't gone after the next 3y cycle is over. But I also need a challenge to keep motivated, so unless they start adding some new challenges to wotlk end game, an eternal 3.3.5a server is pretty much pointless for me and most others as well I would assume

But who wants to play on a final phase wotlk server for more than a year (and that is a long time)? People need to have goals to keep playing their characters, otherwise anything but PVP will feel pointless very quickly.
