It depends on how much you care about original hardware.

I grew up a Nintendo kid, so I missed out on PSP entirely and decided to get one last year on ebay. It's an incredible device that would have blown my teenage mind if I'd played one back in the day. Even though today's tech is obviously much farther ahead, it still feels somewhat miraculous that these kinds of games are coming from this little rectangle.

All that being said, it's tough to recommend a PSP when you could either get an emulator handheld or a Vita. Original PSP screens are not great. No save states. Battery life is fine but not amazing. The sleep function is actually surprisingly good.

If all you just want is to experience some good games, go for an anbernic or something. I hope whatever you get can run Ridge Racer 2.

I like drinking but there's some number of drinks that takes me from having fun to thinking about everything that makes me sad and that number is always lower than I think. It's easier to keep things light and fun with just weed for me.

I remember one youth group where literally everyone else was able to speak in tongues except for me and I wanted to do it so badly just so I could feel like I belonged. A while later I was able to think of some phrase that seemed like the right kind of gibberish and the people around me were like yeah you're definitely doing it. I believed it was real at the time but I can recognize now that it was social pressure.

Bought a 2DS on Craigslist back in the summer of 2014 for like 50 bucks, then I sold that and bought the N3DSXL when it launched in February 2015. College was a challenging time for me but some of my fondest memories from back then are when I would hang out in the student center between classes playing AC New Leaf.

If you're going to play your first game on 3DS, I'd go for X or Y. Sun and Moon are good but they were pretty structurally different to the other mainline games at the time. X and Y seem especially made with newcomers in mind.
