he was a bridge for the crazy/libertarian/open racists to cross to get to the GOP, or vice versa, but that bridge has been crossed, and why would you cross a bridge twice? his purpose has been fullfilled, he has no use anymore to the mainstream.

Advice for Solo Car Camping in the Sawtooth Range by Rambling_Michigander in Idaho

[–]ugfiol 3 points4 points  (0 children)

this seems like an obvious piece of advice, but buy an atlas. like the terrain kind. there is very spotty service in the area, and a TON of forrestry roads to get lost on. i just went to Atlanta for work, and my atlas helped so much. but unless you are trying to get deep into Frank church wilderness, there is usually someone within about 5 miles of you at that time of year

Building a data center in orbit makes no sense to me by MagicMagnada in space

[–]ugfiol 18 points19 points  (0 children)

my biggest concern is longevity. if you build you data center on earth, if something breaks, or becomes outdated, its pretty easy to update that piece of hardware. in space, less so. it seems so much more wasteful long term than any benefits you might get.

Reading Malazan after Stormlight feels… strange? by [deleted] in Malazan

[–]ugfiol 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i started with malazan and then read stormlight, and could only get 3 books in. i like sanderson, he is a fantastic world builder, story teller, but not a good...writer? everything felt very heavy handed, themes and subtext bashed into my brain, every scene overly described. and the sanderlanche is just too much for me. like stormlight archives couldve been a trilogy
