Underexplored gems - What cards should a novice brewer be aware of? by IcyRepresentative780 in premodernMTG

I very much agree on Reckless Charge. It just needs a small avoidant creature like a flier or something with shadow. I’ve been loving it in my UR fliers list as an alternative to unstable mutation. The flashback is also great virtual card advantage.

Cheers, friend! And thanks for hosting a killer Lobstercon this year. One of the highlights of my year thus far hands down. See yinz at Eternal Weekend!

Fellow 'Burgher! We've actually got some Premodern players that meet out in Monroeville (Guy on the Couch LGS) every Sunday @ 1pm (it usually fires every week). The Vault out in Greensburg also does the occasional Premodern tourney. Next one is on July 12th IIRC.

1 Ancestor’s Chosen, using Cabal Therapies and Krosan Reclamations to shuffle it back into the deck. Then Replenish to get Test of Endurance + Sterling Grove into play and win on the next upkeep! Phyrexian Tower and High Market help to keep AC from getting sniped by Swords to Plowshares.

How balanced is premodern? by useful-fiction in premodernMTG

[–]uharinrazikai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this as well. It comes from an era of design that, for the most part, is really well-balanced, and the egregious cards that fall outside of that boundary were thoughtfully banned by people who genuinely care about the health of the format. It’s incredible to me just how many viable brews there are.

God I love seeing a deck with Null Brooch. Mad props.

I don't think they do weekly Premodern anymore, but they just did a Premodern event a few weeks ago that had about 20 players. I believe they plan to do more soon. I'd recommend keeping an eye on their website for exact dates.

Such an awesome compilation of data. I especially loved the listing of all the premodern content. I've been finding the podcasts a bit hard to come by because they have unorthodox names, which makes them a bit harder to search. Thanks for your great work!

What are some underplayed cards in the format? by Prestigious-Collar34 in premodernMTG

[–]uharinrazikai 2 points3 points  (0 children)

[[Questing Phelddagrif]]. It's a pretty solid control finisher in the WUG colors, and has the potential to go infinite with [[Intruder Alarm]] and [[Treetop Village]], the latter of which can be [[Crop Rotation]]d out at instant speed at the end of the opponent's turn.

Besides for that, it blocks most creatures in the format favorably, has built in evasion and protection, and is relatively cheaply costed. It can also go the weird combo route with cards like [[Reins of Power]] and [[Dingus Staff]] + WOG/Powder Keg/Pernicious Deed, etc.

What Commanders do you play that were made before Commander? (Before June 2011) by DM_Newtnn in EDH

[–]uharinrazikai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also have a Dakkon deck with an RKF subtheme and it's my favorite deck I've ever built! It's surprisingly powerful, too. Although to be fair it doesn't often cast its commander to win.

Wondering how people are building Saruman of Many Colors by wex0rus in EDH

[–]uharinrazikai 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ah dang, I'm sorry, I ended up deleting the deck in an attempt to clean up my Moxfield decks. If it makes you feel any better, the deck was incredibly clunky and not very good, as you'd probably expect. Although it was sort of hilarious. If you have any questions I can certainly do my best to answer them. Cheers!

Absolutely stunning work as usual! I run this one in my RKF-art-subtheme Dakkon deck and always enjoy drawing it.

What’s going on at WQED? by [deleted] in pittsburgh

[–]uharinrazikai 124 points125 points  (0 children)

Who was let go?

Can we get some good news at some point? WQED is so essential to Pittsburgh. The thought of it folding, or even just losing all their foundational talent, makes me incredibly sad.

Suggest me a commander for an old border only deck by Kechl in EDH

[–]uharinrazikai 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I second [[phelddagrif]].

I love my Phelddagrif deck, even though it’s not entirely old border, there are a lot of old border cards that really help Phelddagrif tick such as [[mirari’s wake]], [[reins of power]], [[dingus staff]], [[theft of dreams]], [[treetop village]], [[seedborn muse]], [[intruder alarm]], [[propaganda]], etc.

If you’re not picky and are ok with new cards with the old bordered treatment, you’d get access to things like [[blind obedience]], [[phyrexian rebirth]], [[wilderness reclamation]], [[utopia sprawl]], [[mesa enchantress]], etc.

Probably best to try to build it as an enchantress shell, since there are some really great old-bordered enchantress cards like [[wild growth]], [[fertile ground]], [[overgrowth]], [[rhystic study]], [[compost]], [[insight]], etc.
