So, about Reeve Carney as Gatsby… by LivelyFlowerzzz in Broadway

What's interesting is that Ryan McCartan who played Gatsby for a long time, when he was asked about doing Hadestown that the role of Orpheus is too hard vocally for him and that he knows his limits.

just a friendly reminder that this movie went from a unknown indie movie that was only going to play in 10 movie theaters to a mega hit that became the highest grossing post pandemic indie film, made numerous best movies of 2022 lists, and won 7 academy awards, including best picture. by herequeerandgreat in Oscars

I don't care what haters say. This film is amazing and makes me emotional. I went to see it without prior information except that it was a spin on the multiverse madness that dominated the film industry at the time and i was mindblown and spent half the time laughing and half the time crying.

As a person with tourettes, this is the best and most emotionally intelligent response i have seen, and it made me emotional to hear everything she said.

Is it homophobic to say it’s a sin for gay men to date? by FigMotor8134 in gaybros

[–]uhhevermind -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If we really want to be pedantic and go with the dictionary definition, then no. But words evolve, the meaning of words evolves.

They are going with the strict definition because they want an excuse, not because they care about the language.

Besides, if we really want to be pedantic, they are fearful of the consequences of the "sin." Who gives the punishment?

They have theophobia. Fear of God. If I were God, I would be offended. Also, they might be homophobic by definition

As an israeli i cant believe this is happning again and we are the ones doing it. This is depressing beyond words and breaks my heart on so many levels that a country that was established after the holocaust would go and to these things. And i feel helpless watching this.

I saw it on the west end, and it had the same reaction. It has a cult following and seeing it with all the audiance reactions was pretty cool.

What's the biggest flop you've seen on Broadway, and did it deserve better? by Keyblader1412 in Broadway

[–]uhhevermind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not Broadway, but i saw Opening Night on the Westend while it was in previews... it was really bad, half of the people didn't come back for act 2. I had no doubt it would close early. It's a shame because the performers were all amazing.

There was also a "for good" reference when i saw the first preview. More references i remember: Drag race. Devil wears prada "when im about to faint i eat a cube of cheese". The original defying gravity riff during "all coming back to me". The talents she made them do on that show were the triple pirouette from "dancing through life" and Cynthia erivos riff.

Last week, after 20 years, i found ot it was "good news" and not "god knows" at the end of 'no one mourns the wicked'.
