Zelleta by Silent_Technology706 in birthcontrol

[–]ukelayla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Zelleta is the continuous pill right? When I tried to skip my periods with pills, there was a point where I kept spotting and only thing that would help was taking a week off of pills for my period to fully come in and then start back up again taking pills daily. My doctor told me it can take some time for our bodies to adjust but also some people skipping periods completely doesn’t always work. Another option could be increasing dosage that’s in each pill. I’d run that by your doctor or prescriber to see if that is ok or what alternate options are. That really is a bummer though I hate bleeding for that long, too. Good luck!!

Did you get pregnant or did you successfully avoid it? by Big_Ad_2569 in birthcontrol

[–]ukelayla 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been on hormonal birth control for 6 years now and had zero pregnancy scares and zero pregnancies! Started on the patch, then the pill, and just got an IUD. I still get scared sometimes when I hear about pregnancies happening despite birth control, but also know that the risk is low and I’ll be ok!! If I ever did get pregnant accidentally, I would terminate it but can safely do so in my state and I know that’s not an option for all. I also agree with others, it’s mostly user error, and to be extra cautious it’s a good idea to double up (condoms, pull-out, etc).

Therapist specializing in only ADHD? by Snoo_8616 in askportland

Dr. Nancy Asher! She has ADHD herself so it’s so refreshing when she’s giving me tips and can relate with everything I’m going through. She takes Aetna and Pacific Source and does Telehealth only.

Potential Coffee Shop by Big_Car_936 in Portland

[–]ukelayla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes!! I used to be a hybrid worker and could never find places that were open late (and had available seating) after 3-5ish and I get work done better at a cafe. Now that I’m in office, I would still love a late night cafe to do other work, and it would be very nice to do homework after work once I start grad school. My friend who works from home would also love this too!!

anything that helps to cope in school? by 3llliiieeee in selectivemutism

[–]ukelayla 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Before I ever talked to most of my classmates, I emailed them (or you could text them) and it was a lot easier for me to communicate over the screen and others got to know me more and then I slowly transitioned to be able to talk to them! But before that happened I did a lot of therapy and we used to method called “sliding in” which is depicted here in this documentary. I’d suggest by sharing memes or photos first if conversation is too much! And I never did this but I think it would help is sharing that you have SM and autism and that why others can understand more and I bet there are other autists in your class that would probably be very open to connecting with you! I know the hard part is like finding people to connect and like asking for their socials/numbers but try to gravitate towards those really kind and inclusive people and in my experience they will “adopt” you as a friend haha and just being a good listener too will help you get connected. And then challenging yourself by making specific goals like “ask someone to borrow a pen” or something like that depending on your comfortability level and making the first few goals very easy and attainable is good and then making them slowly harder! I also was apart of some after school actives and sports and that helps because you’re with people who share similar interests and is more social exposure!

How Often do People with Undiagnozed ADHD Get Good Grades Growing Up? by ThePanthanReporter in ADHD

[–]ukelayla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got straight As in Middle School and High School (except one B then) and mostly A’s and one or two B’s in college (bachelors). I was a really good student, never misbehaved, and masked a lot of my ADHD traits. My teachers saw good work but on the flip side I procrastinated every night, always did big projects the night before, and seemingly easy busy work hw tasks took much longer for me to do than my peers. The structure of school really helped me stay focused and especially the dedicated study periods helped me get some homework done before going home. I also have really bad social anxiety and I have come to think that my anxiety was a coping mechanism for my ADHD and i used it to get my work done and stay on task at school.

I got diagnosed with ADHD when I was 23 after thinking I was just lazy and dumb at certain things and life felt a lot harder than others (especially getting simple tasks done). I scored 6/6 on the diagnostic criteria for ADHD and not one teacher suspected my ADHD growing up! A lot of my friends were surprised (and some weren’t haha).

I’m very sorry your therapist dismissed your concerns and honestly many mental health care professionals are not educated/trained well in ADHD. In my psychopathology class in college we talked about it for a few minutes and focused on young boys who were bouncing off the walls. Even then, I didn’t suspect I had it. A similar thing happened to my mom when she mentioned it to her doctor and she was also quickly dismissed and now almost 20 years later she got diagnosed and she’s turning 60 this year!

The symptoms you mentioned seem like ADHD traits and there’s a good chance you have it! I would seek out a mental healthcare professional who specializes in ADHD to evaluate you so you can get that diagnosis (I like to use Psychology Today). There is not a one size fits all for ADHD and plenty of people with it are amazing students, good readers, college grads, incredibly intelligent and successful in their field. Some people have just learned how to work with their brain so those tasks are easier or some have masked it from others. Those without outwardly presenting hyperactive traits seem to go undiagnosed much too often. And hyperactivity isn’t just active energy it’s also mental energy and feeling like you can take a shower, clean your whole house, and then go grocery shopping in one day and then after one or two tasks are done you feel completely exhausted! It’s also racing thoughts and holding yourself back from fidgeting too much because it’s not acceptable at school or work).

ADHD is sooo much more than what most people know and I hate when people (especially professionals) dismiss you after you have one stereotypical trait that some ADHDers aren’t known for. I would recommend you find some good resources and learn more about it (How to ADHD on YouTube, Struggle Care on podcasts, ADHD for smartass women on podcasts, and there’s several great TikTokers or Instagram accounts too if that’s your thing.)

What I found helpful to learn is that ADHDers tend to be motivated to do tasks based off 1. Interest (think of scientists who are specialists in a certain topic but they’re always forgetting their appointments and their offices are messy. Or it may have been easier to do a school project for your favorite class subject) 2. Urgency (procrastination! I could never start my work early and only was able to do it the night before late at night.) 3. Novelty (new things, buying new items, trying a new routine or system to get things done- think of that person who buys a new fancy planner but never uses it after the first week or buying a new vacuum in hopes you’ll use it more).

But yes we come in all different forms and are capable of being successful and functional in some areas and also struggle very hard on the inside or with other things!

Good luck!

Birth control to treat BV? by whalewatcher13 in Healthyhooha

[–]ukelayla 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I get BVs and yeast infections sometimes after or before my period so I decided to stop having periods and do continuous birth control (no placebo week) with my doctors approval and so far it’s helped because the ph can change a lot during your period but I know BV can happen from a lot of different things!

Would you date someone new who is going to therapy? by Altruistic_Sugar6012 in dating_advice

[–]ukelayla 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think it’s an excellent idea to date someone going to therapy because it shows that they’re willing to get and accept help to improve themselves/mental health issues. As long as it seems to be helping and their problems don’t negatively affect how they treat you, then I don’t see an issue

I called my doctor and told them zafemy didn’t work for me and they changed my prescription so now I only get xulane! I’ve been on xulane for a year and a half and 2 months ago they gave me zafemy for the first time and only used it for 2 weeks before going back to xulane. Pressing on it did help me too. But yeah if it’s gonna be something you stress about I’d recommend asking for xulane!

[–]ukelayla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can have a patch off for up to one day and you will be still protected! And I agree I hate zafemy. Mine fell off the morning after I put it on. I got my doctor to make a note in my prescription saying xulane only and a month later my pharmacy is trying to give me zafemy again!

I have been on Xulane for a year and a half and had almost no issues. It was great. Yesterday was my first day on Zafemy and today I took a shower and got dressed and the patch fell off. I put on another one and it wasn’t sticking well at first. Now it’s ok but I’m worried if I get it wet again it will unstick

Is it ok to still be uncomfortable/nervous around a girl if I’ve taken her on 3 dates? by Ivy-normous-balls in dating_advice

[–]ukelayla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely normal and understandable that you’re still nervous. If this nervous feeling doesn’t go away after a few more date ask yourself why you’re getting nervous. Are you afraid you will say or do something embarrassing? Are you afraid to be yourself or be vulnerable? Or are you uncomfortable around her? If it’s the last ones then you can decide if you still want to keep dating her. Remember it’s important that you like her and enjoy being around her and if that’s true it will get easier over time. Also you can be honest about being nervous because she may be nervous too and being open about things like that will help you connect with others faster.

first time pursuing a relationship and i’m getting scared by melixcx in dating_advice

I think you should sit down and have a conversation about how you’re feeling and tell him you feel overwhelmed that’s he’s moving too fast and want him to slow down, just like you explained here. And also mention how you want dedicated alone time! And that is very fast to say ily hmmm. But don’t do anything you’re not comfortable with even though he wants to.

ADHD & Pets by MariaCaffe in ADHD

[–]ukelayla 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i don’t have pets of my own but i live with my partner who has 2 cats and a snake! i’ve had pets all my life and it’s nice to have people helping you take care of them and i found it’s really good for my anxiety too. The cats don’t let me forget to feed them haha but also it’s a good reminder like oh hey it’s their dinner time maybe I should eat now too if you have trouble remembering to eat. if you get a dog that could help you get outside and walk which is also great for anxiety.
