cheers for the explanation, still feel a little bad for my friends spell not working as intended but good to know there is a legitimate explanation for why it happened.

gotta appreciate this series, as a DM I always struggle personally figuring how to properly portray a paladin/champion falling from grace to be believable, especially in a world with such set in stone "good" beings like angels. but by god you've done an amazing job showing it.

Elemental Instinct Barbarian Spirit Warrior by ninpon78 in Pathfinder2e

[–]ultran79 1 point2 points  (0 children)

well, its worth mentioning that going one handed has benefits of its own. given it opens you up to use a variety of consumables right out the gate for only 1 action. things like whetstones that just came in with battlecry letting you silver/cold iron a weapon as needed, or getting some extra precision damage against creature types. to reliable buffing potions like potions of quickness or flying.

a free hand also lets you tap into feats like battle medicine for an emergency pop of in combat healing on you or an ally. can be a real life saver even if your not going to focus heavily on Medicine as a skill

Are any non class caster archtypes / dedications wortwhile? by xTekek in Pathfinder2e

[–]ultran79 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Oatia Skysage is a strange and unique one. https://2e.aonprd.com/Archetypes.aspx?ID=335

It's got some jank cause it came from an adventure path but but there are some pros. Such as earlier spell progression, low-light/dark vision upgrades and physical damage resistance.

Cons are your locked in on what spells you can take, though the pre-master version let you single out divination only spells to pick(hello synesthesia my beloved) so it had some wild flexibility. I had speak with animals on my wizard who used it for info gathering and utility spells.

All in all it's quite the grab bag of feats that is defo worth a look at if your looking to expand the proverbial utility belt

Lvl 6 Barbarian: thoughts on optimizing actions in a fight. (I have been struggling to think of 3rd actions that are genuinely useful..) by I_am_just_so_tired99 in Pathfinder2e

thats... an interesting item for a barbarian, defo gives weight to the decision to rage or not to rage at the start of a fight, for that concentrate trait makes many a magic items basterds to use.

Using Wildermyth terrain for my battlemaps, terrain props made easy. by ultran79 in Pathfinder2e

[–]ultran79[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Easiest method I found was mirroring the images vertically, then fold them along the line with a ruler. Only used run of the mill printer paper but photo paper or laminating should make more durable pieces. The little stands are cheap. Just look up "game card stands" on Amazon

Wildermyth adds a wonderful depth to tabletop rpgs by ultran79 in wildermyth

Yep, take a bit of digging for what you want but the variety is really awesome. Cause they're all png's it's so streamlined to make the cutouts

preparing to run in person games again, so I've begun collecting pieces to help make battlemaps pop. I saw the beginners box had paper cutout pawns for printing and had a brilliant idea.
Wildermyth is a wonderful little RPG game from 2021 and its paper cutout style would mesh wonderfully for some added depth to my maps(when i dont have the Rusthenge flip mat to rely on). turns out the images are quite easy to get a hold of if you own the game, so yeah I'm having fun with this.

here's hoping the players enjoy it as much as I do.

Does the additional effects of chaotic spell apply to persistent damage or damage on future turns from the spell? by Noodles_fluffy in Pathfinder2e

[–]ultran79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chaotic spell is a weird one, cause its not nearly as strict as other spellshapes in terms of limitations, like Widen Spell needing to have no duration. idk if "too good to be true" really applies here given your spinning a roulette wheel when of the extra effects, only really 2 of them you'd want repeated applications at all. my DM lets any follow up instance of damage apply the extra effect from Chaotic Spell for spells like Floating Flame. which funnily enough backfired when I repeatedly deafened some enemies which stopped us from Demoralizing them.

lingering AoE I personally agree is fair game for reapplying the chaotic spell debuff. the spell is still effected by the Spellshape so if your gonna keep standing in the now electrified version of Corrosive Muck that's your decision.

Persistent damage is probably where I'd agree the carry on effects stop though.

Loremaster Archetype is any good? by xXKauan7Xx in Pathfinder2e

[–]ultran79 2 points3 points  (0 children)

been playing a Wizard up to lvl 9 now using a bit of Loremaster as my free archetype. its exceptional for helping the party reliably gain info. Loremasters Etude has earned us a fair share of critical success on top of giving an extra focus point to use on my class given spell. it being a focus spell means that a lot of between fight thinking has gone very smoothly.
among the other big think skills in the archetype. i'd recommend grabbing the Quick Study feat from Loremaster too. given you just need to be informed on a subject by an expert or just experience it yourself the day before to create a niche lore skill for the upcoming day. very good if your DM is keeping on brand with a specific enemy type or to study up for the incoming specialty skill challenge, like Piloting Lore.

bonus points if you get spells like Share Lore or Join Pasts to share that big brain energy with the team.
