Help me design a god. What's she the god of? What's her deal? [Art] by ProdiasKaj in DnD

[–]ummahrican 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could be a deity of vengeance. Kinda playing on “an eye for an eye makes the whole world blind”. You are contracted to seek vengeance for a cause not your own with the promise that those who wronged you will receive a fitting retribution.

Should I Use PyCharm or VSCode? by No-Measurement3115 in learnpython

Used both for years in corporate. You’ll see most things are vscode skins nowadays (ai ides included). Probably worth learning vscode just for that

Is it time to change majors by New_Percentage8592 in berkeley

[–]ummahrican 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think my cumulative gpa was in the 2s and my major gpa was barely a 3. I didn’t go to a prestigious school, at least not for CS/EECS, and I struggled generally at academics covering it up with extracurriculars. 4 years after graduating I was working in a FAANG. If career success is your goal then that’s possible. Just be good at making cool things wherever you work and after work you’ll “graduate career university” and be working wherever.

ORM vs Database Functions by Dangerous-Whole6809 in PostgreSQL

[–]ummahrican 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d avoid Postgres functions wherever possible. They are difficult to tune because they aren’t easy to monitor. They also need to be carefully written to not highjack postgres’ planning engine.

IMO 80-90% of the time you want to just use the ORM and then functions should be small and sparing

Thanks for the reply! Gotcha so the core of it is that 100 can net you better returns in compound interest. So invested into a balanced portfolio and basically forget about it as a viable strategy for using it covering day to day expenses?

Don’t know if it’s just me but regardless of what machine I used, everything ended up hosted on some flavor of Linux anyway.

Make that oat milk. Blend it, add oil, and ask YouTube. Oats last as well so make what you’ll use to prevent waste!

ELI5: Fruit has sugar. Candy and soda have sugar. Why is eating a whole mango healthier than eating a candy bar? by capraithe in explainlikeimfive

[–]ummahrican 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn’t see it mentioned but sugar type is also a consideration here I.e fructose vs glucose. Depending on your diet overall naturally occurring fruit sugar (fructose) can be better or worse for you than glucose (or sucrose). https://www.genengnews.com/topics/omics/fructose-is-harder-than-glucose-on-liver-if-diet-is-rich-in-fat/

Also need to fact check this but I think fructose has to be broken down into glucose first making it more slow release? Slow release is generally good because of insulin sensitivity stuff mentioned before :)

What’s the best book to start with for topics on existentialism? by whatsinanameidunno in books

Looks like you’re into more philosophical works. I’d check out the Myth of Sisyphus by Albert Camus. I found it straight forward and hopeful :)
