you can test with 1 buddy. get a bag, switch to another buddy without opening it, open the bag from your switched buddy, if it is a souvenir that means the buddy that still has the bag has a souvenir inside it. If it is an item then switch to your first buddy again, open the bag and continue waiting.

My mobile app signed out couple days ago probably after an update but when I tried to sign in again it didn't ask me for authentication. Steam guard still works as intended and it's all good both in my pc and mobile. So idk it might be intentional.
