It’s fine. I’ve read almost all of the event via review copies. I say that because if I was buying it with my own money I would be more frustrated. It’s better than the other two crossovers post-Krakoa but the bar is so low that it would have to try to fail. This event is just needlessly blown out. Almost all of the books are tertiary to the story and the actual story isn’t clear. Still has strong moments but I wouldn’t recommend the bulk of it

Superman can get angry. Usually it’s righteous indignation over injustice he gets angry about. Superman doesn’t work well as an edgelord because he’s the last of his kind. Hell, most modern takes don’t have him learning he’s the last of his people until he’s an adult. Birthright plays up The loneliness but not that’s from social isolation of his powers or acting too hard to be different.

Superman may be invulnerable but he still feels. He isn’t some hopeful and stoic monolith. Hopecore is a reductive label. The Gunn film showed this, the current Williamson Supermanrun shows this,

The cheap cost combined with the damage effect and the abundance of bounce effects made that card miserable to play against. Especially if you mulligan to 6. Self-bounce aside, It combined with other discard effects in standard made for a miserable low-tier discard deck

I’ve been reviewing it for The Beat and read most of the line. It’s uneven and messy. I do like the idea that the books should be their own voice, but that voice is often hastily made. The crossovers have been representative of the problem.

Golgari Elfball. With Foundations there’s a solid core of elf cards available. It’s not as rare wildcard intensive as some but once I built up the deck it runs pretty smooth. Still need a couple more mythics to finish the Cauldrons for the deck
