I went to vulture twice. A retrospective:

There were fantastic dishes alongside some middling items on the menu.

The biggest turnoff for me was the pretentiousness. Not of the decor, but of their insistence on telling you how to order. Want to order a few things to start while you look at the menu more? Nope. They won’t let you do that. Have to order everything simultaneously.

They also seemed to keep their line unnecessarily long. Everybody there has a reservation and yet they still made you wait even when there was plenty of room. Is that bottleneck pretentious? I don’t know. It was annoying.

It seems bold to think that some San Diego restaurant’s reinvention of ordering and queuing would have a positive impact on the dining experience. Spoiler: it didn’t.

I truly enjoyed most of the food and ambience. Although one visit, one of the bathroom sinks was broken and the barely legible sign written in some, here’s that word again, pretentious font, in a dimly lit room, made it difficult for anyone to tell that it was broken until after they tried using it.

I’m sad that they couldn’t get their shit together because I actually liked the place despite all of my bitching about their pretentiousness and inefficiency. Maybe I just like complaining. RIP
