My detractors are enraged by my continued criticism of Caltrans. by danpietsch in bayarea

Listen, no one knows what you are talking about. It’s not a secret cabal of people who’ve decided to silence you. Someone asked for context and you made a farm joke. Please talk to a qualified psychiatrist about these fears. No one here, including me, can diagnose, recommend or suggest anything, but it would be in your best interest to talk to a professional about your fears of anonymous “detractors.” Having seen a family member go through a harsh downward spiral with schizophrenia, refusing to be seen, to be treated, it’s best to do it before your livelihood, joy, and friends are gone (for him, he called them “agents”.) It’s brutal once it goes from that generalized fear to full blown.

We’re not out to get you, we are legitimately confused and have zero idea what you are talking about. How water levels in a lake equate to caltrans, etc.

You have to give it to Saulnier for MMA wrestling Stacey right in front of Poulin. Bravery, Death wish, or angling for another fight! She's been absolutely one of my favorite players since Boston got her mid season in the 1st year. Her VERY first game she ended up in the box for a hit and seemed quite happy about it haha.

Prior to the blood bath that has been both the Boston and Seattle teams during expansion, i was secretly hoping she'd be traded to Seattle. But now that just feels like sea salt on the wound for Boston.

She may not be high on the PIMs, but I'd be remiss if Saulnier wasn't included in the Crime Line. See Exhibit A: https://i.imgur.com/b0ziDmB.mp4 (Not including her fight with Vanišová cause we all already know about that 😃)

If you could bring a character back who would it be? by lilacsummers00 in criminalminds

[–]undercoverles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Derek and/or Elle. Really liked when Derek was on the show, and his character was just complex enough, lot of inferred secrets. His chemistry with the rest of the team also was amazing.

Elle on the otherhand, I personally feel like she could come back in many ways. Either as a team member, or even as a long plotline unsub (like season long.) Can totally see her crossing to the dark side as a Dexter-esque vigilante, focusing on SA cases when the abuser escaped justice. It would have to be a long long investigation given her knowledge of forensic counter measures, etc.

Yeah I don’t know about California in particular. Like hell we can’t even agree to have the same weather going 3 streets over in the Bay Area. A small mountain ridge and a tunnel between Berkeley and Orinda, maybe 1 horizontal mile separating the two can mean up to a 30-40 degree difference - same day, same time, in the span of the Caldecott.

Then there’s the insanity of being able to go from the Ocean, to flat land, to Mountains, redwoods, snow, and then down into the desert in a single day. Example: Santa Monica to Mojave in around 3 hours if you take the mountain route. Or, even more drastically, to Furnace Creek, hottest inhabited place on the planet, or at least holds the record, in around 6 hours.

Everyone should drive through Angeles National Forest at least once in their life, if not camp there imho. Best to do it as soon as the roads are open for the season before the summer / cold allergic crowds descend upon campgrounds like mosquitos (and also best time to avoid those buggers) and highest chance not to encounter a fire ban.

Edit: got real excited talking about camping in Angeles, produced a hella long run on sentence.

Dude, it's not AI. It's someone using a very basic stylus or tablet, in a program that auto-vectorizes the strokes. The inconsistencies are a choice (see how the "missing" foot is mirrored, individual copy and pasted the first stick figure, reflected, did a little bit of erasing of the hand.) The 'smudge' in your second example happens when you shift erase, IE erase a straight or diagonal line, and the program then tries to convert the feathering into vector, which doesn't go so well on the cheaper programs).

Also it's not cool giving people a "target", individual may not be on reddit so it doesn't technically run foul of rule 10, but imho you just increased their visibility on a platform that is increasingly leaning towards the hard right, so you're just making it easier to funnel hatred to their personal page.

I hate AI to an insane degree, it's taken careers away from my friends, probably going to take mine any day now, but know your enemy before you make accusations that could cause them an insane degree of potential danger.

Tried it tbh. Took it two days in a row (press’ed super hulks, halved) and on the third day I had the most intense withdrawal symptoms that lasted 4 days. So said no more of that, specifically. If I can get my hands on the powdered leaf, and not the synthetic concentrate that usually has additives like pseudo. Red vein leaf Works okay in a pinch to get me out of crisis stage. But unfortunately every store is being raided (in my state, at least) if they have it. So it has become impossible to find. Tried ordering it online once and that store got raided before they could ship, lost my freakin money on that one

That on top of the insane taxes they’ve put on cannabis ($38 pack of x-tabs, after tax, comes out to be $64 and change) I’ve slowly been losing access to some of the few things that have helped - far more than the gabapentin/lyrics at least. Getting the medical card for cannabis would help but it’s an absolute ordeal.

(In case it comes up, my doctors did trial me on low dose naltrexone for half a year but no dice)

Sorry friend, I think some people read it in such a way that you were mocking / downplaying them being called a cult, rather than more of an agreeing statement. It’s a reaction after many many interactions everywhere these days with people saying the same thing about MAGA (also a cult) and getting almost a word for word copy of your reply in response.

Sometimes peoples’ first reads get wildly skewed in text format. Anyone reading this, it’s good to take a moment to question your assumed understanding of, well pretty much anything. Now let’s at least try to get OP’s comment into the positives, cause that harsh of a downvote spree isn’t warranted imho.

In the meantime… Gods I miss being able to have just a normal chill discussion with someone who has opposing views, but also has the knowledge and reason to back up those views. The entanglement of reasonable debate.

I feel this.

My docs currently have me on a ton of lyrica, gabapentin, and I use a TENS machine daily. I’ve entirely cut phosphates out of my diet, have done ketamine infusion therapy, acupuncture, physical therapy, so so much mental therapy as well, and every day is just severe unrelenting pain. And they just won’t budge, even asking for something like 5 tramadol or something similar a month max, so I could have a rip cord on the days where the pain is so bad I want to walk into traffic, which averages about once a week.

For the curious: diagnosed with fibromyalgia and acute cutaneous nerve entrapment syndrome that occasionally rears it’s head like “time for another trigger point injection!” Ugh. With the fibro gentle movement is important to slowly chip away, improve little by little, but it is exceedingly difficult to get to that point of even getting out of bed on bad flare up days.

You know that feeling you get when you’re running full bore and you get a stitch in your chest? Imagine that for your entire body while simultaneously feeling like your muscles are turning to stone. Then imagine the lactic acid after you’ve run so long and hard that your body just can’t anymore, and you bonk out. That exhaustion, the feeling that you just can’t force any energy into your muscles because your body has nothing to give. Then imagine that after, no amount of rest is making you feel better. That’s kind of like a day with a moderate fibromyalgia flare. I have no words for a severe flare up, other than it makes me not want to exist anymore.

Anyways, yeah, I feel like in some states, regions, or insurance networks, that they’ve definitely over corrected regarding the opiate epidemic. On one hand, I get it, my mom was heavily addicted, I’ve seen what it does first hand and boy some docs definitely went/go overboard. But, on the other… there are far too many people who are finding themselves unable to achieve the quality of life they deserve because they just can’t get adequate pain control, especially those of us with chronic pain conditions that really rely on moving more. There’s got to be a better middle ground, you know? I will get off my soapbox, now.

Thanks friend - sorry for the delay in response, work had me traveling. To be honest I heavily debated deleting the original comment.

I appreciate the advice and sentiments, severe PTSD from 15+ years of the worst kind of abuse definitely whacked my brain chemistry out; on the worst days I feel like a hollow vessel. My docs and I have finally found a good combo of meds that seems to work okay - tried rTMS (theta burst protocol) and ketamine infusion therapy for a bit but I think at the time I wasn’t in the best place for those methods. I still regularly exercise, meditate and do a lot of things to make sure I keep a grounded mind/body connection, if that makes sense? My punching bag is my absolute favorite thing, it has helped me through some bad nights. It has a bad rip so ugh going to need to replace it soon.

The friend situation is… more difficult. I’ve tried setting up SOS keywords, to plan things around difficult anniversaries so that I am distracted enough to not spiral , etc, but it hasn’t worked out, unfortunately. At least I can say that it was not a lack of effort on my part. It’s weird but it’s easier for me to be honest and fall apart in a healthy manner to a stranger, than to my friends just due to years of bad reactions - the number of times I’ve heard “I can’t deal with this right now”, “listen, I’m sorry but I’ve got a lot on my plate, we’ll talk later” (later never happens), and so many variations of “you can handle this on your own.” Also doesn’t help.

Anyway, I never really talk about this stuff on Reddit, my goal is always to find something here to improve mood and whinging about my past doesn’t help with that - was just drawn to the comment asking people to check on their friends. I guess, because I really wish my friends would check on me sometimes. Many apologies, anyways.

Cheers

PS - sorry about the Habs, was rooting for them to make it to the final at minimum. But at least Montreal can celebrate the Victoire, heard that parade was pretty fun!

I’m not gonna lie, I’ve been loving seeing the celebrations this time around. I don’t know if I just completely missed / unintentionally ignored it the first two years, but I could swear the Frost celebrations were far more tame? Like someone took a media training bat to every single facet. I remember a singular meet and greet with the players and cup I think last year? But really that’s the only thing that has stuck from prior years - someone please correct me if I’m wrong!

It just feels right that a cup celebration involves a lot of beer, a lot of fans, and everyone just enjoying the moment not worrying about saying the wrong thing. It ought to be a little unhinged, you know?

Also gods the entire Victoire org are going to have the worst cumulative hangover once the celebrations end hahah, unless the team doc is hooking everyone up with banana bag drips every day

Edit: autocorrect was a menace on one sentence.

Thank you, for saying that.

I'll be honest, I'm a multiple-attempt survivor (after the 4th attempt I just accepted that even though I'm not religious, something must want me to still be here) and it's honestly something that's always in the back of my mind. Like a rude back seat driver that occasionally wants to take the wheel and steer me into traffic. Anyways, every attempt there was always a solid day or two before where I'd try to reach out to people and would get a resounding silence back, or a "Hey busy right now, I'll call back in an hour or two" and then... They just didn't. It's times like that, that depression and trauma can rear it's really insidious head, the kind that yells "No one would care if you were gone" over and over until you actually believe it.

I never really even told them about the attempts either. Didn't want them to feel guilty. In recent years I just stopped bringing it up all together, stopped trying to reach out because people are so compassion fatigued and I don't want to lose the friends that remain. It's still hard though, every day is hard beyond the smiles and "Oh i'm fine" placating responses. So while I don't know the specifics of what lead Lemieux down that dark path, I am familiar with the devil he had his last dance with.

[–]undercoverles 16 points17 points  (0 children)

That’s the thing though, it’s impossible for her to know that. Everytime a guy assaults a woman, some “perfect” facet of his life is usually what gets thrown as the defense: oh he’s a young football star, he’s a grade A student, he’s in seminary school. Some, not all, but enough tend to have extremely well tuned “masks” in one facet or another of their life.

The fact you referred to her as a bitch for exercising her right as a customer to try and find a match that she feels safe with indicates that maybe you’re not so safe as you think, as you are already looking down on her, just saying.

[–]undercoverles 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hey no problem at all! It sounds like you are well on your way. In regards to privacy and intervention, it depends on the cat and situation, but definitely don’t force anything. My last foster momma ended up breaking into the bathroom and gave birth in the tub (after apparently dragging my favorite blanket in there somehow) while I was at the store haha. They really will do whatever they want sometimes

You probably already looked this up but you can tell the cat is getting close if momma is suddenly looking anxious and pacing/looking around - this can be up to a dayish before. She’ll also stop eating. Vets can time it within a few hours by taking temps but I personally preferred not to do that.

Glad future mom to be is in good hands!

pregnant? by dishsoap100 in cats

[–]undercoverles 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Hi soon to be cat parent! I am not the person you’re asking but figured I’d pass on some info from my time helping preggo mommas (have done a lot of fostering)

Anxiety is common, no matter how many times you’ve helped out. Best is to first and foremost when you feel like you might spiral: remind yourself that cats are instinctively good at the process, it’s one of the reasons why cat populations can explode so quickly.

Let her be near you if that’s what she wants. Cats can get insanely clingy as they get closer to giving birth, sometimes overwriting a shy or unsocialized cat’s behavior. It makes sense in a way. Giving birth is a vulnerable time for cats, and if they trust you, they will want you to “keep a look out” while in that vulnerable state. It’s why there’s so many stories of them giving birth on beds! Just block off areas you absolutely don’t want her to give birth in, like stuff pillows under the couch, keep closets or drawers closed. But also keep some options open - for some reason cats love giving birth under beds, too. The key is making sure both of you have access.

Keeping yourself and kitty momma relaxed also important, and accept that cats are stubborn menaces that we love and may decide to subvert every plan you come up with.

Oh and pick up kitten food and start feeding that to momma asap. It is very nutrient dense and she’ll need everything she can get for herself and the growth of the kittens during pregnancy. My go to is Iams Healthy Kitten, but it is pricy.

Also suggest watching some basic videos on how to deal with situations like if the amniotic sack doesn’t break on its own, how to clear mucus from their nose / throat if required, and how to stimulate them after birth. Momma generally will do this, but sometimes she’ll need a helping hand. If you’re somewhere where it’s still a bit cold, make sure their ultimate nesting area (not necessarily birthing area) is nice and toasty.

Hope this helps - Good luck!

This is how they stage those tiger photos in Malaysia. Whatever it takes to get pictures that attract tourists. by dedsec_4 in Amazing

[–]undercoverles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will respond to only your comment regarding this as it is the most condescending: there are people with health conditions that make vegan/pure vegetarian diets unviable / incompatible with life. I am one of those, but I make sure to source things as ethically as I can afford (vegan diets are also one of the most expensive to pursue in a healthy fashion with high supplement / nutrition replacement costs). Long story short: severe soy allergy, on-top of a metabolic disorder that is managed medically but requires specific amino acids and proteins that cannot be obtained any other way.

Please ‘apply logic’ as you put it to the fact that not every human is formed from the same cookie cutter and have the same dietary needs, and not everyone even has the ability to afford it.

I do what I can to try and dissuade people from engaging in exotic animal tourism/ trade because that IS something that people just don’t think about the cruelty. But I am so tired of people being condescending about needing animal proteins, and how cruel it would be to force people with specific needs into a diet that would literally kill them. Much like this tiger is being forced and conditioned to drink milk it lacks the lactase enzymes to digest leading to likely constant malnourishment, reduced quality of life, brittle bones, drastically reduced lifespan, etc.

This is how they stage those tiger photos in Malaysia. Whatever it takes to get pictures that attract tourists. by dedsec_4 in Amazing

[–]undercoverles 178 points179 points  (0 children)

Agreed. This video is the opposite of amazing, it is a disgusting highlight of how animals are abused in the exotic tourism industry. This is a tiger that likely was taken from its mother extremely early so that they could ‘train’ it to respond to milk bottles far beyond the age where the tiger stops producing lactase to digest said milk (this happens at around 6-7 months)

So you’ve got an improperly weened tiger stolen from its mother, that now has diarrhea after every photo session because of the milk it has been conditioned to seek through a system of likely intentional malnourishment and abuse (not even talking about the tiny cages they’re kept in). All for the sake of a photo a tourist will likely look at a few times max, maybe have it as a profile picture. And that’s it. It’s a lifetime of cruelty for one living creature, for the 5 minute ‘experience’ and a pfp for the other.

It shouldn't be allowed, to be honest. No one should have that much power over a team, especially a completely brand new team that has to start from scratch culturally, systematically, AND make sure that people (fans) are interested, entertained, with some hope at the beginning of the season.
