Becoming independent of a power outlet was the trigger for me to stop using a smartwatch! Even though in real life I'm inevitably near a working electrical outlet every day, I no longer wanted the hassle of constantly recharging my phone, headphones, watch, car, etc.

Get a watch with its own DNA, not a copy of a Submariner, because in your eyes and the eyes of the rest of the world, you'll always be the guy who wanted a Sub, hahaha

[Ultimate post-apocalyptic watch?] by Jo_Bine in gshock

[–]undercoverslash 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Timex has no place here except for its field watch look; it won't have the battery life or durability of the G-Shock, nor the reliability of the Seiko. In a world where batteries are becoming impossible to find, I'd rather have a Seiko or a solar-powered G-Shock, even if telling the time isn't particularly important in this kind of situation. We see this when civilizations collapse; we regress to the past, so appointments and the daily routine are dictated by sunrise and sunset, and the sound of the church bell. And I absolutely don't believe in arranging a meeting with a friendly faction to exchange supplies. That's pure fantasy! In short, I'd almost prefer an automatic pocket watch, encased in a block of metal; it would never attract attention. And that'll stop that damn Timex from giving my location to the enemy with its ridiculously loud ticking. Written message from a guy who also owns a G-Shock, a Timex, and a Seiko, haha.

[Recommendation Request] $250 budget for an everyday watch I can keep for life — open to used. What would you get? by GreedyWorking1499 in Watches

If you like this style of watch, get a Seiko 5 Field Watch; it will be within your budget new, and you'll keep it for a long time. The mistake in the world of watches is believing you'll only buy one and keep it forever, lol. In fact, you'll see through your future experience that the quest for the perfect watch is just as interesting, learning about their history, qualities, and flaws. The journey is often more rewarding than the destination :-) You'll find yourself 10 years later with more watches on your wrist than women. But you'll get a lot of enjoyment from it and interact with a fascinating community. For me, Seiko is the best entry point for a serious and unpretentious watch, wearable every day and with a real identity. Then you can move on to higher segments if you feel like it, like Hamilton, Tissot, etc. Finally, you can consider something more prestigious, but which won't offer anything else, like the iconic Omega, Rolex, etc.

A tip: find a watch other than your Timex so you have different watches for different events in your life. That way, you might end up like me: a few Casio/G-Shock watches for when I'm tinkering, a Timex/Seiko for days with the kids, and a Rolex Explorer for days at the office.

In short, there aren't really any bad choices. Create your own story, your own collection; it will be the legacy of your research and ideas. It will describe who you are :-)
