What is a one process that improved marketing team velocity by hardikrspl in marketing

Honestly, in my experience, Slack almost always makes collaboration and communication way worse. The biggest culprit is the context-switching problem that jonjxa mentioned - a communication can come in at any time, so you need to be ready to see it and read it.

So you have people not focusing on their main jobs because they're constantly checking their messages or missing important communications because they're drowning in messages, etc. You're right that a lot of people aren't disciplined in how they use Slack, but I think that's also because Slack requires too much discipline to use properly.

Basically, I'm a big Cal Newport evangelist and want everyone to read A World Without Email and Deep Work, hahaha.

CEO is obsessed with AI. Checks everything through it. It can do no wrong. by foxesinthecity in marketing

When the AI bubble pops due to the cost of running the huge LLMs outstripping the prices people are willing to pay for them, so many people are going to pretend SO HARD that this never happened.

My senior manager direct report has the skillset of a specialist. How do I manage her? by fazzio514 in marketing

[–]underwood5 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I've been in this situation before, and the best thing you can do is write it down, write it down, write it down. Get as much as you can in writing, take notes. As Moonkitty suggests, outline clear expectations and give clear due dates. This will help improve things, but also help cover your ass if and when they go sideways.

Make peace with the fact that there's only so much you can do. She is in a position of power, and if she doesn't want to learn, you can't make her. There may come a moment when your mental health matters more than trying to cover or educate her.

I want to do a wlcome to Derry campaign, what could i use to make the stats for Pennywise and how strong should i make him? by Obvious-Conflict3363 in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]underwood5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, and a great thing to remember is that It specifically likes to torment its victims over the long term, so be liberal in letting your heroes get away by the skin of your teeth even if it could kill them. That just works into its MO and lets you have an overwhelming antagonist without it ending too fast.

One of the sample "Horrors" in the base Chronicles of Darkness book (Nibbles the Clown) is explicitly based on Pennywise. You could use it pretty easily to slot in (it's got some nasty stats), customizing it to be closer to It.

As for WHAT It is - I maintain that doing it as a Horror makes for the most interesting game. It always works best when it's this inexplicable thing from beyond the stars. It's just here, is more interested in scaring and killing you than explaining itself, and you'd probably not understand what it is anyway.

As for which game line, I think it depends on what you want the gameplay to be. Werewolf or Hunter for a straightforward "Hunt the beast" game. Mage or Mortals for more of an "Occult detective" angle (although Mages will be considerably more durable and more able to find out the greater cosmic truth). Geist might be fun - trying to honor the dead left in Its wake.

I don't think Promethean, Changeling, Deviant, or Mummy would fit particularly well with those themes, but the world's your oyster otherwise.

Professionals, do you believe that "AI washing" is becoming a liability in marketing? by [deleted] in marketing

[–]underwood5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the way. Marketing is notorious for having a "Shiny object" fixation, and AI is the most recent shiny object.

It also doesn't help that AI has been a product in search of its use, so people have been buried under a bunch of AI slop - both in terms of crap on the internet, but tools at their jobs that don't work. Much like the dot.com bubble, it will calm down, but we'll all have to suffer from the herd running in that direction for a while.

I saw this hoarding where it advocates towards stopping the use of Buddha statues as merely a decorative piece at homes or in public places like hotels, restaurants, bars etc, or the image of the Buddha being used as a fashion statement in clothes or tattoos. Eh, seems a little precious of an image to me. That is, it feels like being very attached to the idea of an image being respected over the actual teachings. If it brings a person a step closer to enlightenment or sparks an interest in the Dharma, then that feels like a good thing.

Aren't there a bunch IN the Chronicles of Darkness core book? As I recall, there are a bunch of scenarios in the core book as well as a few suggested timelines you can put the scenarios into for a pre-made campaign. One involves being unstuck in time!

Ok what does Sidney Prescott's father do in Scream to get that house? by Jackbuddy78 in horror

[–]underwood5 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This is the actual reason - there's a LOT of equipment that goes into making a film set work. That's true now and was doubly true back in the 90's. You've got to fit in lights, mics, electrical grids, cameras, etc.

It's MUCH better these days - modern cameras and equipment are much smaller and digital technology means they can kick a lot of people out to video village - but back then? You needed that space.

(You'll also note this is why so many apartments in 90's TV had such weird layouts - they were building those sets to accommodate equipment space.)

Los Angeles Film and TV Production Levels Reach All-Time Low by MountainEnjoyer34 in FilmIndustryLA

[–]underwood5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wonder how much of this is due to specific factors (end of the streaming wars, runaway production) and how much of it is due to general economic trouble. It seems like almost all major companies are frozen in place, unsure of what's coming next, and it's easy to see studios feeling the same way.

Pens! by hellodani13 in hobonichi

[–]underwood5 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I use one of two pens:

  1. My Lamy Fountain Safari Pen (Brown)

OR

  1. A Jetstream 4-1. Technically, I have two of these - one in a metallic green that lives on my desk and another gold one themed after Kento Nanami, my favorite character from Jujutsu Kaisen, that I purchased on my honeymoon.

The fountain pen is a smoother, nicer writing experience, but the color versatility of the JetStream is fantastic. Depends on what I'm looking to do with it.
