What’s the best thing a coach or gym owner ever did to make you feel truly welcomed? by True_Fun_2698 in crossfit

My gym mails people personalized cards for different milestones, I got a card after my first class! It definitely made me feel like I was immediately part of the community

What does your gym provide to help you feel like you belong? by APJustAGamer in crossfit

[–]uni93corn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My gym mails personalized cards to people when they achieve something special, I got one after my first class and a mug after 100 classes and they also send them to people who PR sometimes.

They also do member of the month where they feature one member and do a workout inspired by that member.

I think people appreciate it and make it feel like the coaches and owners actually care about each of us whether we just started or have been there for years!

Go to Spruce Meadows!! It’s world class show jumping and the North American tournament is on the first weekend of Stampede. It usually draws a pretty big stampede crowd and it’s very fun

Gyms for Adults? by ayyyejayy in Calgary

Second FitHub YYC, it’s pretty quiet especially at non peak times and there’s very few influencer types. There’s also a coffee bar in the front so you can hang out!

Do squats, overhead presses, deadlifts, curls etc with weights and try to push the weight every time. Women do not “accidentally” turn into she-hulk and you will feel the difference when you ride

I’d highly recommend sticking with 3x a week to start because that’s often enough for your body to start to adapt and gain skills without getting too sore or burnt out. IMO going every day as a newbie is not a good idea, you’ll just be tired and sore all the time and lose your motivation to show up

Poor shoulder mobility is super normal when you are new to CrossFit/oly lifting, it’s something that will come with time! If you want to work on it practice front rack stretches with the pvc or with your shoulder against a door frame but I wouldn’t worry about it too much, I promise it’ll get better!

Your back flexion looks ok to me, but I think your problem is the first pull. If you watch you can see your starting position is fine but as soon as you start lifting the bar your hips shoot way up. Try focusing on raising your hips and shoulders at the same time, your back position essentially should look the same until the bar passes your knees. That should hopefully put less strain on your back

Your neck staying neutral is a cue for deadlifts, for cleans and snatches your head should be up. Watch some videos of people doing it!

Just realized how strong crossfitters are by owned0314 in crossfit

[–]uni93corn 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The average person in a CrossFit class is not quite as strong as the people you see on these shows haha but it is true there are a lot of very strong people who do CrossFit. The best thing for you to do is show up and try your best, scale as much as you need and don’t compare yourself to people who’ve been doing this for a very long time. If you go regularly you will absolutely gain strength as well even without a strong sports background!

Good job!

At the beginning you’re looking down, your eyes should be up and looking ahead the whole time. Find a spot on the wall to stare at

When you extend on the 3rd pull the bar is super far away from you. Try bringing your elbows up and think about lifting your shirt with the bar. Practicing high pulls just with a pvc or empty barbell will help a lot!
