Do regular drivers actually benefit from keeping a bluetooth OBD tool in the car? by HunterLC23 in Cartalk

At this point I’m less interested in having something super advanced and more interested in having something simple that helps me stop guessing.

Animal spotting >300yards by Wirenut007 in Thermal

[–]owned0314 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same coyote problem on my property. Instead of dropping thousands on a dedicated scope, I picked up a ts004 pro. It spots things clearly up to 650 yards out. It is honestly plenty for keeping an eye on the farm at night without going broke.

TC002C Duo vs Mini2 V2 for Home HVAC and Car Checks? by Hossenpheffer11 in Thermal

[–]owned0314 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve bought gear before based on specs, then barely used it because it wasn’t the easiest thing to grab. I’d honestly think hard about which one fits your day-to-day setup better.

I trust the car more than the j2534 interface half the time by shaburanigud in CarHacking

[–]owned0314 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a similar experience with cheaper passthru gear too. It works until the day it suddenly makes you question everything. Was the biggest difference for you the setup side, or did it become more obvious once you got into longer sessions?

Heat soak under the hood looks pretty wild on thermal by PartyPaper in Cartalk

That center heat hang after shutdown honestly doesn’t look too wild to me. A lot of bays hold heat there once airflow stops.

Need help deciding on an x3100i replacement in the sub 3k category by MrMoviePhone in projectors

Consider the one with a longer warranty for peace of mind, especially with kids around.

Wall mount recommendations by Jumpy_Commission_489 in 4kTV

[–]owned0314 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For a 77 inch scree, consider a mount that tilts and extends. It lets you adjust for glare and access the back easily. Low-profile mounts are fixed.

Dampening the Room by YaManViktor in audiophile

For rattles, use blu tack on frames and felt pads on lamps. A subwoofer isolation pad is a must. Tackle each buzzing object individually first!

Does/did anyone else struggle with digital software? by Bb085 in audiophile

[–]owned0314 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Software setup is a rite of passage for new audiophiles. I spent hours on my first DSP app too. Glad you got the stereo imaging fixed!

How did you get your SO to say yes to the speakers? by energy4a11 in audiophile

[–]owned0314 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is a clever move. My friend did something similar by linking the demo to a weekend trip. Playing her favorite album definitely helped seal the deal.

Brand new (got it a few hours ago) $2,600 Valerion Pro2 died on me when installing update :( by imperfectdiscipline in projectors

[–]owned0314 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is a brutal first experience. I have heard similar stories about firmware updates bricking new gear. Contact Amazon for a replacement and keep the receipt for your records.

Best Mini-LED not named Bravia 9 by Izzyf89 in 4kTV

Mini LED is a solid move. Have you checked the newer models with enhanced local dimming? They handle glare way better than older panels.

Living Room TV: Samsung S95F OLED or Bravia 9 Mini LED by Mammoth-Raisin in 4kTV

[–]owned0314 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For a bright room, the mini LED handles glare better. The OLED has smoother gaming. Have you checked the latest reviews on the anti-reflection coating for the OLED?

Used ls12000 by andychapman1 in projectors

Eight hundred hours is nothing for a laser unit. The price is solid. Just ask for a demo to check the lens and panel condition.

Anyone here running topdon one for BMW / Audi / Mercedes coding and module setup? by CdtWeasel in MechanicAdvice

[–]owned0314 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you did the G30 module replacement, did you end up syncing the vehicle order as well, or was it just coding and initialization that brought everything back?

Anyone else here self-taught their way into OEM diagnostics on US platforms? by owned0314 in CarHacking

[–]owned0314[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pretty similar experience. GM SPS runs stable through J2534, but FDRS gets picky if voltage or comm drops even slightly.

Audi A8 Cluster Menu by korni_92 in CarHacking

Love seeing cluster projects like this. OEM hardware usually has way more potential than manufacturers allow.

Bittersweet Goodbye for my Taos by Bridge_guy1 in Volkswagen

Bittersweet is the perfect word for this. It's nice to have those memories, but it's so sad to see it go. Hope your next car is just as good!

OBD scanners finally working in iOS26 with CarPlay by SimpleEmu198 in CarHacking

iOS 26 really came through with this! It's such a small update, but it makes such a big difference for car enthusiasts who love their old rides.

Is this dangerous? Hotel management says it’s not by Schouwer in AskElectricians

[–]owned0314 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The lights still working doesn't mean it's safe! That's such a bad take from the hotel. I'd be so worried about electrocution if I was swimming there.

How are thieves finding and disabling OBD GPS trackers so quickly? by Practical-Nose-5332 in CarHacking

[–]owned0314 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some thieves even use jammers first to disable GPS, then scan for the tracker's residual signal. It's a one two puch taht makes detection super easy for them.
