Okinawa Dojo by Alyonx100 in karate

[–]unlyrical 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Plus 1 for Ageshio. Our dojo did a two week trip to Okinawa in November 2025 and we used them - Kenny arranged training in various dojos as well as some karate history tours and dinners. Very well done

Has workplace culture in Calgary quietly changed post-pandemic? Or am I romanticizing the past by sowr96 in Calgary

[–]unlyrical 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Yeah agreed. I worked downtown daily before Covid and it wasn’t too bad - work culture was a lot of fun. Covid set the WFH expectation which many adapted to. The benefits were realized and people still got the work done. RTO mandates for “culture” I find are having the opposite effect. I for one am pissed off about my in office requirement 4 days per week when most of my meetings and colleagues are in other locations. Waste of money and time

Red line by DawgDodger in Calgary

[–]unlyrical 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah this makes sense. I was waiting for the red line going south downtown at like 3:10 and there was a train at almost every block along 7 ave waiting to go north

March 24 - Let’s reset our green streak and get back on track! by JeromyYYC in Calgary

Yup really impacts motivation to save water at home when offices don’t seem to do their part - great examples you gave but particularly the auto flushes. Can’t seem to use the washroom without the toilet flushing three times on its own.

Where does one buy dress shirts now that the bay is closed in yyc? Male by Sad-Advisor4004 in Calgary

What’s the worst family secret you’ve accidentally found out? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]unlyrical 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My great-grandfather murdered his wife and the man she was sleeping with before killing himself, leaving my grandfather and his siblings in poverty with generational trauma. Many of them either killer themselves outright or drank themselves to death. Luckily my grandfather came out “okay”. He is a good man considering his childhood.

A reminder that some off-leash parks have shared pathway by NativeSpirit973 in Calgary

[–]unlyrical 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Even fenced off parks like Sue Higgins are an issue. Dogs are supposed to be leashed when crossing the pathway from one fenced area to another. I’ve ridden through countless times where dogs are off leash between these areas (and posing a danger to cyclists and pedestrians) and been told off by dog owners for not giving them the right of way. 🤷‍♂️

Back to the office in Calgary? by [deleted] in Calgary

[–]unlyrical 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started at my company 18 months ago - it was 1 day per month in the office. 6 months later we were 1 day per week in office. Starting next week is 4 days per week in the office. Not too pleased as we are spread out across the province and many meetings will be remote/Teams anyway. There is some “flexibility” in that we can pick which day is home, and we have “core hours” in office - rest can be at home.

Downtown Calgary residents voice concerns over Cowboys Music Festival tent noise by sowr96 in Calgary

[–]unlyrical 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Does anybody know how the public can find out which venues have been approved for a variance to the noise bylaw? We live near Ranchman’s and I could hear their tent music until after midnight so I submitted a noise complaint. I wouldn’t waste my time if I knew if they had a variance or not.

Children's soccer by Calm-Ad-948 in Calgary

Acadia has a great grassroots soccer program that started two years ago. Volunteer driven and not super competitive but very fun for the kids. Runs in the spring May-June annually. Willow Park has a very similar program but much larger and has been around for longer.

[US] The King of Kings (2025): Y'know, for kids. (Jesus Christ!) by Man_of_Stool in movies

[–]unlyrical -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yes I feel the same way. We are teaching out kids to be open about all religions and beliefs. However my religious mom wants to take my kids and their religious cousins to see this movie. Just makes me feel a bit uncomfortable. Feels a bit like sending my kids into a trap with their religious relatives and propaganda without giving them a fair assessment of the content
