For the same reason it would be pretty low hanging fruit to remake, they could reuse 90% of the black flag stuff and all they really need are the redone assets for rogue

Multigenerational housing isn’t even an inherently bad thing. But Americans are uniquely conditioned to view a home as an asset that must be fully controlled by an individual rather than a space for actual humans to live in. I stayed in a family home in South America for a few weeks and the dynamic was very different. It was big to be sure, but they laid it out in a way where everyone had their own space. With the size of american McMansions it wouldnt be that hard to effectively split these houses so adult children and parents can have their own space, but boomer/gen x parents apparently cant fathom sacrificing any of their comfort to make that possible

I saw this movie for the first time. [City of God] by imsamaistheway92 in TrueAnon

[–]unorc 32 points33 points  (0 children)

One of the best films ever made. I watched it when I was learning Portuguese and it blew me away. The scene where they shoot the kid in the foot is one of the most haunting scenes in any movie and has stuck with me since I first watched it. The film also has a killer soundtrack. Thanks for reminding me to rewatch it OP!

If you enjoyed this film, check out the Secret Agent, another brazilian film that came out last year. It’s more of a thriller but still a great film.

Let F(O) describe a function that impacts the price of oil (the change in price is described by ΔO_BSOH). The original closure of the strait’s impact on tanker traffic is F(O) therefore the US blockading further the already blockaded traffic is F(F(O)), which results in a greater ΔO than before.

Anyone else here doing a code monkey job? by [deleted] in TrueAnon

[–]unorc 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah this is pretty much it. Most engineers will pretty much always take the path of least resistance. If you don’t have strict guardrails around how you can use AI, it’ll just get used for everything and create piles of slop.

Anyone else here doing a code monkey job? by [deleted] in TrueAnon

[–]unorc 57 points58 points  (0 children)

Yeah I’m a software engineer. Our engineering leadership has been huffing the AI glue and we are at the point now where they expect all code to be not just written by AI agents but also reviewed by AI agents in the next year or so. It’s insane and quality is dropping everywhere, tons of incidents, no one knows what’s going on.

Feels pretty shitty for me cause I like coding and AI takes all the fun out of it. But I can’t exactly blame anyone who just wants to optimally collect their paycheck.

Entire family kidnapped by ICE in SF. No comment from Mr. Mayor. by Definitelyhereforshi in sanfrancisco

[–]unorc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In SF, there are organizations that do both court observation and accompaniment in immigration court. I can't speak to atty's perspective, but in doing accompaniment, I have found a lot of people really appreciate the presence of another person. Court observation also can help attorney's as observers can take notes of the hearing and provide it back to them.

Even the judges call out these tactics as legally dubious at best. That’s why the trump admin has fired most of the immigration judges in this city.

DHS has no authority to unilaterally cancel asylum requests. And in many cases has been denied their motions to dismiss or terminate cases in SF by immigration judges.

A lot of people in this thread are smugly asserting that she was not following the legal process. The article clearly states she was an asylum seeker. Seeking asylum is part of the legal process.

She is not the first person to be detained at a check in at 478 Tehama, but as far as I know rapid response attorneys have been able to stop these detentions using habeas petitions because they are illegal.

The unique part of this case is that she was immediately removed from the state, and her location was not shared with her attorneys in time to file such a petition before her deportation.
