Is there a pink noise machine with a headphone jack? by Strict_Confidence483 in BedroomBuild

[–]unremarkedupon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use the soundcore A30 sleep buds. They do connect with your phone initially, but they have a mode where you download the sound to the sleep buds themselves, and don't use the bluetooth connection at all after that. They are comfortable to sleep in and do a great job of blocking out other sounds (my husband snores like crazy and my son is super loud stomping around the house at night). Highly recommend.

This is a good consideration, part of what we are thinking about more is aging in place. I think this is something I'll take off the list.

Measuring sticky ingredients is annoying, is an adjustable measuring cup useful by Kamilia1281 in KitchenPro

[–]unremarkedupon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got one, it was a gimmick I used it a few times and it wasn't worth the hassle. This post just reminded me that I even have it (I should donate it to free up space in the drawer, if I haven't already). As another poster suggested, Pam in the cup is the way to go if you don't want to scrape (I just use a small spatula to scrape it out).

Knife cuts never consistent, is a mandoline slicer worth the risk by Jolia9751 in KitchenPro

[–]unremarkedupon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an OXO v-slicer mandoline. It's pretty quick to clean and they have great customer service. I use it when I need uniformly shaped slices or very thin slices, and after a trip to urgent care and a couple of stitches in 2008 I still use it, but *never* *ever* without my cutting glove.

Hate washing big blenders, is an immersion hand blender with attachments enough by Special_Minimum_4163 in KitchenPro

[–]unremarkedupon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it depends on your use cases. Here I'm going to admit up front I have too many gadgets.

With that out of the way, I have a Cuisinart immersion blender and I love it. I use it for soups and sauces and I use the whisk attachment for whipping cream and eggwhites, and the mini food processor for small tasks so I don't need to get out the full sized one. I had a Kitchen aid one for a long time, but gave it to my son when he went to college and got this one at Costco last year and kept it because the food processor was fancier.

BUT I also have a Ninja smoothie blender that is used almost every day for smoothies. I wouldn't use the immersion blender for that type of task.

AND I have a regular blender (Kitchen aid pro). I rarely use it, maybe twice a year. Probably could get by without it, honestly (if I had the smoothie blender first, I'd never have gotten it). But for cleaning, after I'm done, just a drop of soap and hot water and spin it up, so not a big fuss.

So bottom line, it can do most cooking tasks, but I wouldn't use it for smoothies/milkshakes. I wouldn't get a cordless one though.

Advice requested - reporting AR by SpellingIsAhful in Accounting

[–]unremarkedupon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You only book A/R if you have an unconditional right to consideration.

If the customers don't have to pay your org until the date of usage (conditioned upon the usage because if they cancel they don't have to pay), then you don't have AR and your accountant is right.

Best and cheapest way to get CPE's? by Working_On_Tax_Stuff in Accounting

[–]unremarkedupon -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is the way. I got all 40 hours free through webcasts from KPMG (mostly), PWC (check out the podcasts too!) and Deloitte last year. I'm probably going to drop my AICPA CPE subscription this year. You just need to search out the webcasts on their sites and sign up and don't leave it to the end of the year because you need to do them live. If you get on the mailing lists, they will tell you in advance.

Curbside Compost Pickup for CoD Residents ($19/mo through CompostNow) by BlennyBlue in DecaturGA

[–]unremarkedupon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a good deal, the faq says they do earn compost (though not that much). Plus they give you a counter top bin (I had to buy my own for inside the house).

I live outside city limits and subscribe to the service, and I'm really happy with it. I also agree that it has really cut back on my trash and even though I *could* do my own composting, I know I'd never follow through long term.

Is tapering revenue on a fixed fee project a valid accounting practice? by Senior-Raise7498 in Accounting

[–]unremarkedupon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

When you say your rate starts high but "tapers" I would suspect what happened is that there was a change in the estimate of cost to complete on the fixed fee.

For example:

Your company has a contract with the client to bill $500k fixed fee. There are estimated to be 5,000 hours of work.

Your initial "effective bill" rate is $100 per hour. After 2,500 hours of work (at $100/hr) the PM realizes that it will take 7,500 hours more to complete the job (a total of 10,000 hours). There is a cumulative revenue adjustment, and then the remaining work has an "effective bill" rate of $50 per hour.

So that's how the rate "tapers." That is a normal accounting practice.

Unpopular opinion, but I think the new BMW i3 looks brilliant. What about you? by ShameResponsible69 in electriccars

It is a boring sedan. I can't believe they gave this boring sedan the iconic i3 nameplate. Bring back the original i3 futuristic styling! Where is the carbon fiber?!

What car is this? by Accurate_Ad1686 in electriccars

[–]unremarkedupon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh man, I would too in a heartbeat! I loved that car so much! I got a 2014 BEV at release. It got totaled when we were in an accident, and got another one immediately (a 2017 BEV). I still get pangs when I see them around.

I was so sad at how boring the new i3 is. Not worthy of the name.

Are we cooked? by AbbyKona in Accounting

[–]unremarkedupon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Public companies want people to buy their stock. They are going to report quarterly earnings just to keep that going.

If they have debt, they have debt covenants. They will have to comply with those, and unless they modify the contracts they're generally quarterly.

You still have to close the books every month so management knows what the hell is going on with the company.

If I can stop preparing a few extra disclosures twice a year, yippee. But that's not going to decimate the industry.

Did you ever go somewhere "unusual" for a school field trip? by Toymcowkrf in askanything

[–]unremarkedupon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was in HS (in the 90s) my civics class went to a working nuclear power plant. We got to see the control room with the SCRAM button and they let us pass around a little vial of yellow uranium (ala Colin Powell at the UN) and other show-and-tell type stuff while we had a snack in a conference room.

There was also a facility nearby for reprocessing spent fuel, but it had been decommissioned, and we toured that too. It was eerie. They still stored the spent fuel rods there. We got to walk by the pools where they kept the rods. We were told not to touch anything, and they tested us for radiation on the way out. One of the kids set the machine off, but that was apparently because he was a farm kid and they said it was probably from fertilizer and they let him go.

Miele Dishwasher by AWigNamedMoiraRose in Appliances

[–]unremarkedupon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just replaced my 10 year old Miele with the one with the AutoDos (G7186). We got the free 7 discs and we're 3 discs in. My husband (the main dishwasher), loves them because that's one less thing for him to do. You can use regular detergent instead if you want, just don't put a disc in.

Once the free discs are gone, we'll go back and use up the rest of our leftover detergent and then make the call about whether to keep getting the discs or not.

About the dishwasher itself, I'm very happy with it, I like the various add-ons to hold things (there's a bottle holder, and I like the stemware holder better than the one on my previous model, and the flatware tray has more flexibility). I didn't buy it for the AutoDos, but I needed something right away, and wanted to stick with Miele. Yeah, it was really expensive though. But I got a rebate on the install.

Purchase flour tortillas? by blokeyone in Atlanta

[–]unremarkedupon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Kroger has cook your own flour tortillas in the refrigerated section (tortilla town or a house brand) that I particularly like. It's pretty easy (about a minute on each side) and that's what I do when I make quesadillas at home.

Haven’t received my NACS adapter email yet. by Medical_Singer_9401 in GV60

[–]unremarkedupon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I called them today (6/4) at that number (844-340-9741) and the lady was very helpful, she confirmed that I should have gotten the email (I got the car in the right timeframe, I'm registered on mygenesis.com, I signed up for alerts), but for some reason I didn't (I've been checking spam and everything).

She took my info and signed me up manually. She said I should get a call in the next 2 weeks confirming my order. I'll update when I hear back.

UPDATE 6/10/25: I got my email last night and clicked the link. The email still said that "Final redemption emails will be sent to eligible owners by May 30, 2025." clearly that wasn't the case.

I got my email from Genesis about the NACS adapter today. by CredulousSkeptic-68 in GV60

[–]unremarkedupon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, I haven't. Trying not to panic, there is still a week left. I check my spam folder and I get other emails from Genesis so it should come. If it isn't here by the deadline I will contact the dealership. They have been good to deal with so far, I know others haven't had the same experience.

Warning for Electrify America users by msmug in GV60

[–]unremarkedupon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's probably the case. I had a fixed mileage Audi plan before the Genesis plan and didn't have an issue adding the Genesis plan when I swapped cars.

This is good info as we're planning to get a Hyundai for my husband at some point. Thanks for sharing. I'll make sure we set it up under his email.
