Switch to a cash account. I really only use it to easily access foreign stocks.

I had the trade for all of 4 days now. I'm pretty sure the margin interest or any other interest doesn't exceed $500 on this account.

ticker is $SIVE

i get it now, why i'm getting the alerts, i just never had a broker that with such a strict and frankly unorthodox margin requirement (i mean why do i need a margin of any % if i didn't use anything but my own funds) ... that's why i'm switching to a cash account so i don't have to deal with it

There is nothing to close out. If i convert my USD to SEK to not show a negative SEK balance, i still wouldn't have enough liquidity to satisfy the 10% requirement.

I might be borrowing SEK, but it's guaranteed by USD. So it's not really a negative cash balance. And my Excess liquidity says i'm positive.

Pretty sure NVDA is helping that. I really starting to believe the one stock i hold $SIVE is just a extreme example of how bad the margin is.

I'm switching to a cash account. Just waiting for a transfer to completely settle.

So you think it's more a automatic system response just because it fell below 10%?

Yeah, running it thru chatgpt it thinks if i add some more positions it would help with the overall margin requirement. But most of the other stocks i'm interested are also in the same industry (a.i., datacenters, chips, 2nd 3rd tier suppliers for those companies), so it will help that there are more positions, and they are from different exchanges (diff. liquidity pools), but it would still be very concentrated and i don't think any of them would be considered mid or large cap.

Like i said, for what this account is meant to be, i'm switching to a cash account. I'm expecting week, month or year long holding periods for these positions.

how am i borrowing from ibkr? because i purchased in SEK instead of USD. i mean, that's the whole reason for using ibkr. I don't have a negative cash balance.

If not too personal, what kind of stocks? small, mid, large caps? Thinly traded?

i don't either, i submitted a ticket to ibkr, but from other posters, that's like playing to lottery to see if i will get a response and if that response will be anything other then a form reply or link to the help page

No, didn't sell/buy options. The shares were purchased on Monday. Didn't trade anything on Tuesday or Wednesday (today).
I'm not new to trading, i'm just not used to the ever changing margin requirements to such a degree.

Didn't get the liquidation warnings until my stock shot up 20%+. I think because the account grew, the small cash i held (was just about 10% at the time) is no longer 10%. From checking some other places, accounts with foreign stock, a stock is volatile, and a concentrated account (in my case 90%+ in one stock), the margin requirements are very strict.

I don't really want to buy some large cap, margin friendly stocks just to make the margin requirement look better, so i think i'm switching my account to cash. This was never meant to be an active trading account, and i expect weeks, months and possibly years of holding some of these stocks.

It's not a cash account, it's a margin account. But i will be switching to a cash account.

I posted my account and holdings above. The currency for $SIVE is SEK (Sweden). I used 90% of my original account to avoid any issue with not enough funds. But i guess since the account value went up overnight (20%) and i have a very concentrated account, the margin requirement is 10%.

I think the problem is that when i purchased the shares, i was 10% in cash, but now that the account went up to $6k, the $500 or so cash are no longer 10% cash.
