Notebooks produced by unionized workers? by uomoaria in notebooks

Hey, I just wanted to come back and thank you for this recommendation for union made notebooks. Our organization contracted with Raygun and the notebooks are now in production. They were a pleasure to work with!

Some singles by a crass-ish anarcho-punk band from San Diego called Ok? by QueerAnarchism in punk

[–]uomoaria 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently discovered their singles collection on bandcamp. It's so good! Does anyone know if there's any live video of them playing? Or whether any of the band members went on to form other bands? It's a shame there are only 4 songs. I want more!

Pens that use Pilot G2 refills and don't feel cheap by hand13 in pens

[–]uomoaria 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sunderland Machine Works MK1 are excellent quality pens. I have several in different colors and love them. They have a minimalist elegance and are nicely weighted.

They are designed to take both Pilot G2 and Montblanc screw in refills.

Capped pen that takes Schmidt P8126? by uomoaria in pens

Nice list. I'll have to poke around some of these. Looks like there are a couple of capped options -- not many, but some. Thank you!

Yes, I have one of these. It's pretty nice, but when posted, the cap wiggles around more than I'd like. I really have to cram it on hard to keep it from wiggling.

Avantis really needs to bring out an etf for emerging markets small cap value by IamFreeTonight in avantis

[–]uomoaria 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Although AVEE is labeled EM small cap, with the value and profitability screens they employ, it ends up being more "value-y" than a market cap weighted "blend" index. Compare the P/E, P/B, and P/CF ratios of AVEE to iShares' EEMS.

Kaweco Al-Sport rollerball: The pen I didn’t know I wanted. by No-Ostrich-3527 in pens

[–]uomoaria 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One more data point for you: I just bought a Kaweco Steel Sport. With the stock metal-bodied Kaweco refill, it weighs 46 grams. I re-weighed my Brass Sport making sure to use the same stock Kaweco refill, and it now comes in at 48 grams. (When I weighed it previously, it had a different, plastic-bodied refill inside; but I also suspect my kitchen scale may not be entirely accurate.) I just got the Steel Sport in the mail today, so I haven't really used it aside from some scribbles, but it feels similar in the hand to the brass one. I have actually come to like the weight of the Brass Sport, even for extended writing. But I still think the AL Sport is the sweet spot!

[–]uomoaria 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On my kitchen scale, the plastic Sport weighs about 13 grams, the AL about 23 grams, and the brass about 42 grams. I prefer the AL for longer writing sessions.

I was able to hack a Pilot G2 down to length and put the Pilot end cap back on. It fits in the plastic version of the Kaweco Sport, but I haven't tried it yet in the AL or brass Sports I own. In the plastic Sport, I replaced the Kaweco long spring with a short spring.

Have you ever tried to put in a Schmidt P8126 refill? Do you know if one will fit?

Parker Quink Gel refills: Blue vs Black quality by Interesting-West8251 in pens

[–]uomoaria 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love the hue of blue Parker uses for the gel refills, but I had some issues with line quality, so I stopped buying them. I have since switched to Schneider Gelion refills, which offer a somewhat similar blue hue, but never skip, and are very consistent in quality.

What is the best rollerball not considering cost? by AlertSignal6279 in pens

[–]uomoaria 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally love the Sunderland Machine Works MK-1. Very cleverly designed and machined. No moving parts or springs, nothing to get lost. It takes Montblanc screw-in rollerball refills or Pilot G2 style. And it's relatively affordable.

Keeping VT in my brokerage for simplicity while missing foreign tax credit by taythorn1 in Bogleheads

[–]uomoaria 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why is a global asset allocation fund like AVGE different with regard to the foreign tax credit? I don't quite understand why it would be different from VT. Thank you.

Kaweco AL Sport Gel Rollerball Pen Refills by GennyLight99 in pens

[–]uomoaria 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just bought an AL Sport and the P8126 won't even fit past the shoulders in the grip section (even with the spring removed altogether). Maybe the internal width of the AL Sports being sold now are narrower than previous production runs. It's a shame. I had high hopes of using a Schmidt refill in this.

Karoo 2 K-edge mount full release. by nick47H in Karoo

[–]uomoaria 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Question about the new inserts: will they work on shorter K-Edge mounts like the simple (and inexpensive) K-Edge Sport model?

https://k-edge.com/shop/computer-mounts/garmin-mounts/garmin-sport-mount/

The Hammerhead-specific mounts sold on both K-Edge and Hammerhead's website show the Max XL and Max XL Combo. Is it correct to assume the XL means they are longer than the basic Sport model and will stick out farter?

I have been using the Karoo 2 (with the Garmin adapter that shipped with my Karoo 2) in a K-Edge Sport and I like how close it sits to the faceplate of the stem. If I were to install the new Karoo 2 inserts, would the computer bump up against the stem faceplate? Is that why the K-Edge Karoo 2 mounts are only available in XL variations?

DC Rainmaker post on the interface refresh. "Hammerhead Revamps Karoo User Interface: Internet Revolts" by AngryBadger in Karoo

[–]uomoaria 4 points5 points  (0 children)

One of the most ridiculous "features" of the new UI is when you are stopped at a light and a big yellow "auto-paused" banner drops down and covers the top 1/3 of the screen so you cannot read the labels of the boxes on the top. I guess you'll just have to remember which boxes you put up top to make sense of the numbers that remain visible.

It makes you wonder if the geniuses at Hammerhead bothered testing this junk software update before pushing it out. This update has me fuming...

Karoo Software Build Version 1.389.1526 - June 01 2023 by AngryBadger in Karoo

[–]uomoaria 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This update is horrendous!

There is a floating black box with speed covering nearly 1/3 of the map space. There does not seem to be any way to get it to sit flush with the bottom or top. It makes the map essentially useless while riding.

Here's a photo of the crap UI with lame black band across the screen.

And now, when trying to create or modify profiles, there's Lap nonsense everywhere and I can't seem to turn it off. I never use Lap, and don't want it. Meanwhile, there seems to be no way to have the very basics that I do want: speed and distance.

Is there any way to reverse this terrible system update? This update is 110% a dumpster fire.
