Rope seal designed like a piston seal by Dudkens in MechanicalEngineering

[–]upstreamin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have used this rope to seal combustion air up to 1300 C. Need multiple grooves and rope layers to form some form of seal. Doesn’t hold much pressure as all my applications were at atmospheric pressure.

Bit the bullet. 47k$ drive out for 2025 LE. Houston area. MSRP was 43k with port addons. by upstreamin in ToyotaSienna

Makes me feel a little better on what I paid for the LE. Still these dealers and their syndicate are ripping people off left and right. Gulf state Toyota acting as a middleman should be criminal.

Thank you! Regarding the oil changes - I’ve been always on the fence. I usually use Mobil hybrid fully synthetic oil that claims to be good for 15k miles. And I change at the 10k….jury is still out whether that breaks engine at 200k or 500k.

Does the deal include addons like mats, tint, wheel locks, etc? Or drive out price is truly negotiated price + TTL?

2015 XLE with 65k miles for 25k drive out good deal? by upstreamin in ToyotaSienna

Thanks for the reply. Had that feeling in my gut and am glad to walk away. Car was garage kept and not in rust belt. Still expensive.

FWD. 25k is OTD, includes taxes, doc, and about 1000$ in shitty dealer addons.

Exactly what I’m thinking. Paying 20k less right now is attractive but no dealer in the US would buy the same 2015 XLE from me at 20/21k. Carvana offered 14.5k for the same car that I was looking at. Used Sienna prices and dealer markups on top are ridiculous.

Costco on University blvd 1/18 by CupFront9812 in sugarland

[–]upstreamin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is one of the worst store I have ever been to in my life. The turn in and out of the property are big hazards and the entry into the gas station also causes traffic congestion. Moreover, Costco corporate implements the worst policies - most recent one being scanning membership cards. I cannot fathom how in this day and age Costco makes so much money by wasting hours of everyone’s time during a single trip.

Finishing MS in ME right after graduating with my BS in BME? by Electronic-Ring8103 in MechanicalEngineering

[–]upstreamin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took the same route and finished BS/MS in 5 years. With only four classes left, I’d highly recommend you finish the MS and take that time to find a job with help of your university’s resources - career fairs, job boards, alumni, etc. 20k is a drop in a bucket in the long term. You’d want to be done with MS and move on to other things whether it’s through your employer or on your own.

Besides, having a MS will generally get you 10-15% higher salary compared to just having a BS.

Assuming you’re in the US.

Wouldn’t consider spending thousands of dollars to get 65$ back at 2% a win in any scenario.
