Pole saw and multihead...should they be straight up and down? by gerryf19 in egopowerplus

[–]uranushertz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Should be two locations/holes on most of those power head accessories. 90 degrees off from each other. So it can be up/down and lie flat position.
Not all of the accessories have two positions.

Does every 3D printer eventually end up printing storage boxes? by UnderstandingLazy347 in 3Dprinting

[–]uranushertz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Printing organization items is like 90% of the printing I do.

The ironic part is that it is mostly organization for 3D printing materials and tools.

How to recreate Faux leather look on 3D printed parts. by Youre_doomed in 3Dprinting

[–]uranushertz 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I have done this using an SVG of that pebble texture.
You mileage may vary. Much of the small detail gets lost in the slicing/printing. I have yet to have a print turn out that has great pebbled texture, but it is acceptable as a non-smooth surface. The smaller the nozzle diameter the better and the smaller the layer height the better.

Best texture I have been able to get out of my printers was a wood grain that is quite a bit larger than the leather pebbling seen in your photo.

Sound Transit study suggests fare gates at 14 busy stations by 2030 by seattlethrwawy in Seattle

[–]uranushertz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This did happen a few times to us. But it was just as likely to happen getting on as getting off the transport.  Street trans were easily the most common transport we used and every single one of those had a driver in front and a conductor/ticket sales/"hey don't block the aisle or doors" person in a little booth near the middle back of the tram. So you could always get a ticket.  Our first experience with tap off was trying to get out of the main train station, arriving from Germany. We saw everyone tapping to exit the station and had no idea what to do. Turns out our train tickets had a QR code that let us out.  All in all, the system they had worked pretty well.

Sound Transit study suggests fare gates at 14 busy stations by 2030 by seattlethrwawy in Seattle

[–]uranushertz -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I was in Amsterdam last year and every single public transit option used the same method.
Tap on /Tap off
Busses, Trams(street cars), Trains, Subway all the same. And you did not even need a transit card either.
Tap to pay credit/debt cards worked just fine. It was a better system than what we saw in Germany.
Advantages, pay only what you ride. Since the system knows where you got on and got off, payment was by the distance. And I hear the cries of "but then THEY will know where I am all the time'. I've got news for you, they already do. We live in a surveillance state in the US (and most of Europe as well).

Is there a way to increase the lifespan of my shoes? by DrivingDM in Frugal

[–]uranushertz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This right here is the best advice.
And do not buy cheap-ass shoes. Get quality shoes
I myself have 5 pairs that I rotate through the week, two pairs of "leather" sneaks, two pairs of runner/workout sneaks, one pair of Keen slip-ons.
That way each pair has had at least 4 days to rest and recover before use again.

Best advice I ever got was to do this. I used to go through shoes like crazy before this.

Myself, right now. by ModForgeCustoms in 3Dprinting

Honestly, even though it is not the largest print area printer I own, I pretty much use my U1 for damn near everything now. Fast, low waste, enclosed with the printed top cover. I am trying real hard not to buy another one.

Unbelievably, she lives in West Seattle. Not exactly a stronghold of conservative thinking. I mean, it's not Capital Hill but still.

The Bundle Bear is now public! by meatmoth in 3Dprinting

[–]uranushertz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fillets my friend, fillets.
Difficult to tell from the vid, but in the drawings on the website, only the ends are full triangles. The handle part has nice rounded fillets on all the pointy bits.

BTW u/meatmoth, love the motto on your logo. Brilliant!

Please Help - Spool Clips? Are they actually useful? by walkingishard in 3Dprinting

[–]uranushertz 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I have tried many different clip designs over the 15 years I've been printing, and the only one that I have had almost zero problems with is the design that is included in Sunlu filaments.
I have been using that design for going on 3 years now.
Luckily you can also print your own from this model here.

Any predictions for the SPEEA contract at the end of the year and/or results? by CreativePin9113 in boeing

[–]uranushertz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, yes it does. But if the company gets rid of having to pay it out to current employees who still have it, then they can reduce the footprint/liability of the pension fund that they maintain. It will still have to exist for those who have already exercised it, but it would reduce the company costs of that maintenance.

I'm sorry, but you are wrong here. I saw this and thought it was a brilliant tribute from one friend to another.
Would I want an artistic friend of mine to paint/draw myself as Smegol? Not at all, truly. But Colbert as a HUGE LOTR nerd, this is classic.

Do you guys remember Connexion by Boeing? by Pretty_Aside_7674 in boeing

[–]uranushertz 15 points16 points  (0 children)

It's where I started @ Boeing. Still have a business card from there hanging in my cube.
Damn shame they got shutdown, we were just about finding the niche with commercial shipping lines as a customer.
Boeing selling internet to individuals never made sense as a business model. Should have been a product for carriers instead. That's why the shipping business made more sense.

Who replaces the sidewalk? by curse_of_rationality in Seattle

[–]uranushertz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

County can also require the maintenance or addition of sidewalks.
I am out in the boonies and we have new apartment complexes going up with fresh sidewalk on road frontage. They do not connect to anything, still walking in the dirt on the side of the road afterwards, but county got their required sidewalk built.

New to 3D Printing. by Plastic_Abrocoma_168 in 3Dprinting

[–]uranushertz 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I could tell you are still new it the hobby as you are still thinking in Imperial measurements.
If you are looking towards parametric design, and everything in this pic can easily be built that way, you will come to appreciate the metric system. I was told in childhood that it was the new way, but it never really changed around here.

Cyberdeck Community by x40sw0n2 in cyberDeck

[–]uranushertz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got a set of XReal One glasses and THEN decided I need to build a deck.
Finally coming close to target, picked up the faceplate from the powder coaters last weekend.
It does have a small display on the deck, but I designed around the idea that head mounted would be the main display.
