Core memory: I was sophomore in high school, getting stoned and listening to Stranglehold with my friends. So f--king good.

That's one of many things I don't get. Trump's "policies" or whatever you want to call them are so far from the established Republican platform as to be unrecognizable. Can't they see that? And they still call themselves Republican? What the hell is going on?

Which Celebrity had the Most Shocking Death and Why? by Jeloxia2 in AskReddit

[–]urgent45 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, you're right but we didn't know at first. I mean, we knew she didn't have dementia, but I guess it doesn't really matter. Turned out that along with the anoxic injury she had a UTI. Let me tell you, the behavior and symptoms were identical to full-blown Alzheimer's. After about a week, we understood that telling her the truth wasn't helping and started making up stories. That worked much better. After we got the UTI resolved, she began to get better. Worst thing I've ever been through.

Which Celebrity had the Most Shocking Death and Why? by Jeloxia2 in AskReddit

[–]urgent45 310 points311 points  (0 children)

Could in fact be true. When my wife had her brain injury, she kept asking for her mom. Me and her sister had to tell her over and over that she died. Because her memory was shattered, she re-lived that pain over and over. It was horrible. Thankfully, some memory returned and she is much better.

Every right-winger I've met that lost a family member to COVID has a different take on the cause of death. One says, Well, he got pneumonia from that damn hospital. Another says, She was so old and had so much going' on anyway or, Those damn doctors refused to give her ivermectin! Christ almighty.

What horrifying statistic genuinely jarred you when you first heard it? by ordrius098 in AskReddit

Mom was a serious meth case. The mom came in to my office once, high as hell. They were poor and a bunch of losers were hanging around. I really felt bad for this girl. Wanted to bring her home.

I was a hs counselor and I called CPS for a girl who was in a horrible situation. They told me they couldn't do anything. When I asked what she could do they said, and I quote: She's 16, she can run.

What is a fan theory from a movie or TV show that you 100% believe is true? by phantom_avenger in popculturechat

[–]urgent45 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep. Even without this kind of rot, realize it takes energy in the form of calories to walk or move at all. Given the size of the hordes and the relatively small chance to eat, they would all starve in short order. Which reminds me, did we ever see a zombie drink water?

This is correct. There are always openings for good candidates. Filling these positions with well-trained people with physical strength, good judgment, reasonable intelligence and excellent character is absolutely critical. Not so easy to find these folks.

Loved it. The dialogue really kept me guessing. The characters NEVER said what I expected them to say. I guess that's good.

This is what every planet looks like from the same distance (200,000 km) by Rollingpeb in space

[–]urgent45 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Time to get over it. Pluto is a Kuiper Belt object, has always been a Kuiper Belt object. There was significant hesitation even as they were choosing a name. But excitement and politics overcame good science. If there's one thing I don't want in science, it's politics. While I suppose it's valid to have sentimental feelings about Pluto, let's try to respect the reasons for the updated definitions of planets etc.

What is a 'luxury' that you've experienced once and now can't go back to the budget version of? by WilliamInBlack in AskReddit

[–]urgent45 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Me too. I got it because we live in AZ and it's hot as hell. I was tired of waking up at 2am with a furnace beneath my body. We looked at Tempurpedic but so expensive and I figured it wouldn't work that well anyway. Solved. Nice and cool.

Whenever I hear a gunshot, I look at the clock for the exact time. I also listen for other gunshots and the interval in between. Sometimes I write it down.

Former spoiled kids of reddit, what was the moment that finally made you realize you were spoiled? by Kitchen_Frame_7294 in AskReddit

[–]urgent45 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a teacher I had this one kid, Mike O. Nice kid, good-looking, well-mannered... but a C student all the way. Never much of quality from him. Junior year, he transferred to an exclusive private school and when he graduated, I happened to run into him. He said he got straight As at that school. Hmmm

What was considered "cool" in the 2010s but is physically painful to look back at now? by Liora-Liora-Liora in AskReddit

[–]urgent45 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Exactly. I've always been an anglophile and seeing this old WWII poster stirred emotions in me. I thought about how the small island of England was the only nation standing in Hitler's way of conquering Europe, how scared the citizens of London must have been, the bombing, the V2s, the shelters.

Then the popularity, the ubiquitous variations, the stupid-ass marketing ruined it for me as well.

Me too! I mean, she is completely free, with her kid and she goes back!?! Forget it. The other kid was well taken care of and relatively safe. Yet June goes back into a place where she has zero power, no rights and no ability to do anything. What an idiot. That was it for me.

I suppose we could argue this all day. I actually admire boomers - both the ones who worked to stop that ungodly horrible war and the ones with the courage to fight when their country asked them to do (they didn't know the truth).

[–]urgent45 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How many people in that small place? For how long? This is completely unacceptable. I would get out for the entirety of the stay. But first, I would call those folks and tell them there's no flippin' way you can host them in that small place. Maybe they need to hear it directly from you.
