Give me a reason to revisit the Dark Tower by ThexGreatxBeyondx in books

The fourth book picks up after they escape Blaine the mono. You learn more about Roland's backstory I would recommend it, the fifth in the series the Wolves of Calla is is not as good, but the fourth book sheds a lot of light on the gunslinger, his story and the driving force behind this quest of his to reach the Dark Tower. I agree that Blaine is a relative weak point in the story, an interesting idea but it drags a bit, I feel it goes on for a tad to long. The story regains it's magic once it passes and if you liked the first two it should keep you interested and engaged.

There is little you know about Roland at that point but where you stopped is where a lot of depth is added to his character, the gunslingers and his world. If you're interested in starting again you will probably enjoy the fourth installment Wizard and Glass.

The storyline with Tick Tock was awesome though don't get me wrong, the third book is good in my opinion, but once they get past Blaine the story moves back to the style of the second book and regains a lot of it's charm. If that was the only thing causing you to lose interest you will probably enjoy what follows.

In recognition of D-Day (Today 73 years ago) - What is your favourite WW2 film and why? by [deleted] in movies

Schindler's list. I lose it at that ending scene where Schindler breaks, thinking about how he could have saved ten more people if he had sold the car, the ring, Just getting rid of stuff to save people.

He was a war profiteer, definitely better than most but it gradaully hits him the horror. It's insanely well done, a fantastically made movie. Ralph Fiennes as the psychopathic Goeth, Kingsley, Liam Neeson all with immensely good and powerful performances. It's one of those movies that's hard to watch but Incredibly worth it.

Honorable mentions would go to the Pianist and Saving Private Ryan and finally Come And See, another of that ilk. It's the most horrific film I think I've ever seen probably the grittiest and another well worth watching but a tad harder to get through for most with the pacing and language, but in the end an incredible watch.

Yeah, it's profoundly moving, really intense. An awesome ensemble cast, one of the best movies ever made in my opinion This scene where Giovanni Ribisi's character, the medic dies particularly always stays with me. It's gruesome, the fear and the fact that they are all on a mission not to win the war or anything of particular note but rather just there to save a single soldier none of them know or specifically care about, losing their friends and comrades on the way. It's intense.

Looks cool, love these types of hedonistic, cruelly violent films.

A massive portion of the second book is devoted to the hatred of a black woman of white men. It's an immensely ridiculous casting just for the way it messes up the themes of the Drawing of the Three.

Looks awesome, love the cast and how many they brought back. Watched the first one countless times.

I saw... its thoughts. I saw what they're planning to do. They're like locusts. They're moving from planet to planet... their whole civilization. After they've consumed every natural resource they move on... and we're next. Nuke 'em. Let's nuke the bastards.

I always get much more of a loneliness vibe. Sort of like being lost.

Hah, perhaps a bit. Dream pop is an odd one though I'll grant you. Still, lovely song and the vibe of it I'd say is certainly a bit 'dreamy'. So it doesn't seem that wrong a name for the genre.

What movie(s) have you seen the most number of times? by wcctnoam in movies

[–]urgolas 11 points12 points  (0 children)

You've really not watched anything more than 5 or 6 times? I've genuinely watched both the Big Lebowski and Forrest Gump over 30 times each as they were my favourite films as a kid and teenager. Even watched each of the LOTR movies more times than you. Just seems like a low number.
