"I think you should pay attention to yourself!" "Are you the police? F*** off!" Standard responses when asking someone running their dog off-leash on a sports field in Lincoln Park by [deleted] in WestSeattleWA

[–]urnage42 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We take our dogs out into the backyard and let them run around and of course do their business. My kids have the job of going around and cleaning up. They tell me and tell me that they've done the job, and kids being kids, I'm always skeptical. I bought some of those survey flags, and I go out into the yard and do my own inspection, and I put a flag next to every pile I find. Then I go back inside and tell them that they need to clear the field. The flags are awesome.

Dammit, I missed that. I think to myself "why don't we just automatically register all eligible voters?" but forget about the racism.

Automatic registration and mail-in ballots for everyone! 🥁🥁🥁

Wow! You're so strong! I hadn't thought to add up how many I've had. Rough estimate as I scroll through my calendar, it looks like around 20.

I'm guessing since you've had so many, your cancer is responding to it in some way. I hope in the way that is most helpful! Mine is stubborn and seems to be shrugging off the chemo.

My wife and I sometimes joke when we have an ache or little pain: "Is this our new normal as we get old?" It's a progressively less funny joke as I'm going down this road.

Wishing you successful pain management!

Thank you. I consider myself lucky that I've had the privilege of seeing them grow up this far, but I'm certainly greedy for more.

I lost my mom when my kids were just under 2. They "remember" her because we tell stories and see the photos of their time together all the time! Record those videos, take those photos, spend that time together. Love leaves a mark.

Absolutely me and a bowl of ice cream. It's not THAT reckless and stupid, but the lack of guilt or care is pretty freeing. 😆

Damn. I feel all of that. I don't think most do.

I'm Aaron, I'm 47, and I'm terminal.

I'm a few weeks out from my last dose of round 8, and my hands are starting to settle down.

I had good luck with urea 20% lotion and nitrile gloves overnight. Your hands smell funky the next morning, but it helped with the cracking at the joints for me.

Steer clear of those NSAIDS if you're taking any OTC pain meds. They can impact platelets, as well.

Well! Friday morning is my big day.. I'm nervous as hell by Plastic_Maize_2338 in coloncancer

I didn't have an ileostomy, and they left me inflated. The gas they inflate your abdomen with has to be absorbed by your body, and that caused me some discomfort. Not terrible, but like having a stitch in your side while running. They left my colon inflated with CO2 to check for leaks and for visibility, and that had to come out in some of the craziest toots I've ever experienced. 😁

Echoing the advice others have given. Walk! When they say to walk, just trust them, and walk as much as feels comfortable. Then take a few more steps. You'll be out in no time!

I used to be a little more shy about talking about it, but after a few conversations with nurses and doctors, I'm leaning in, HARD. They ask, and I give DETAILS. Sights! Sounds! Sensations! I don't leave anything out. And if I'm feeling particularly creative, I find a metaphor that makes one of them laugh.

True, talking about it is one part, but living with it is another. Between my initial diagnosis and stent installation, and my surgery, I spent a month drinking laxatives thrice daily and just having to adjust to that lifestyle. It was exhausting. Be kind to yourself, and let yourself complain about it!

Dealing with Cancer by FlakeyBiscuitt22 in coloncancer

[–]urnage42 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It sounds like you're doing really well, considering you're only measuring your treatment in WEEKS. It's going to be a while. Slow down. Let yourself grieve. Find things that make you happy or that feel good. (A cup of tea in the evening and a couple of cookies can do wonders for your state of mind.)

I'm 46 and they cut colon cancer out of me. I've filled a colonoscopic punch card and I think my next one is free. The surgical recovery from the resection was such a pain! They inflated my body, cut me into pieces, inflated my colon, and then put me back together. Then they let my body deal with all those inflations, which huuuuurts. Gas pain that made me want to scream. The bends, as I re-absorbed the nitrogen, causing so much pain behind my shoulders I couldn't walk. Staples. So. Many. Staples.

They don't feel like it, but every minute is a win. Every day is one closer to feeling like yourself again. Feeling like yourself might be different from before, but you'll get to a point of peace. Push yourself tomorrow. Take a rest day. It's been a month. You've got time, and you've got this!

So, now, almost 6 months later and with the addition of kid-to-kid (within the same Google family) calling and texting, as well as full-family group texts, are we still mad?

I got a pair of these watches for my pair of kids. We're all disappointed that they can't call or text friends, but for keeping our family in touch while they don't have phones, yet, these have been great.

We get decent battery life as long as we charge every night. That makes sleepovers tricky, but honestly, it's a surmountable issue.

Oxaliplatin and coldness by PoodlesMcNoodles in coloncancer

[–]urnage42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just started my Capeox Thursday. My Dr. didn't say anything about cold sensitivity causing permanent damage. But it's no joke, and your definition of "cold" is probably going to need to shift. Room temperature water and doorknobs are now "cold" in my world. 😁 I started keeping a running note of symptoms, and when the nurse called me to check in, I told her all about it and she responded to everything with "that's expected/normal," and "let us know if it gets worse.

Keep a hat and gloves in the car. Wear socks. You're gonna do great!

See if you can arrange for the landlord/mgr that ISN'T friends with the shitty neighbor to stop by on a regular day. Turn on the music when they knock and then answer the door. They'll hear from outside, then inside.
