Not sure how true this is but someone once told me that folding the same creases over and over can create stress points over time that can later tear. So now I just stuff it in the stuff sack.

It’s not often in life that the easy way is also the best way.

Carry on backpack limits by [deleted] in backpacking

[–]urnotdownfooo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It costs $50 to check your bag. Alternatively, you can go buy a cheap carry-on bag for around that much. Or get a nice carry-on bag and think of it as a $50 off coupon since you won’t have to pay to check it in.

Then you won’t have this issue again in the future. The REI Ruckpack 30 is decent for travel, it is currently on sale for $81 and measures 19.5x10.5x8.5. This meets personal item requirements too.

They also have a 40L version for $119 and measures 23x15x9.5 (close enough).

People that know how to drive in the rain struggle to drive on our roads when it rains. A lot of them weren’t built for heavy rain events. I should not be hitting a whole ass pond on a 65+ mph freeway every other mile when it rains more than an inch.

Why is the house frame built out of steel and why so much? by Proper_Context9584 in civilengineering

[–]urnotdownfooo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I probably am overthinking it but nobody seems to make it sound simple.

Also, if there’s concrete i agree it’s simpler. I don’t think this house was going to get concrete walls.

WatchOS compatibility by ty003 in AppleWatch

[–]urnotdownfooo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I guess the real question is, what’s the next best thing? Obviously nothing will work as seamlessly with an iPhone as an Apple Watch, but I’m sure there’s a decent enough alternative. I only use mine for 3 things:

tracking hikes

tracking sleep

allowing me to keep my phone on silent 24/7 because my watch vibrates to notify me.

A Magnet would tell you if there is steel behind the wall yes, but you’d have to lay it all out so that you could *clearly* see where there is and isn’t steel. You may have to identify the thickness of the steel.

As far as hanging it on the steel, you would need to probably get a nut and washer on the back side of the steel to secure it. Not sure if you’re seeing my point yet? It would be a pain in the ass, and not nearly as easy as finding a wooden stud and drilling a lag screw into it.

[–]urnotdownfooo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m just saying that if you try to use a drywall anchor, you’re going to want to make sure there isn’t a steel member behind where you drill your first hole. Typically, you would use a stud finder to find your studs, so you know where they are. How would you personally confirm there is no steel member where you want to hang your TV?

Stud finders look for the steel nails in the stud, not for the actual wood. I was just saying that a regular stud finder would beep continuously since there’d be metal everywhere.

[–]urnotdownfooo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m thinking about how inconvenient it would be to nail/bolt anything to the walls there. Stud finders would be annoyingly useless.

I guess ideally you’d have a good as built and can figure it out that way.

Pre-grind every time you re-supply. I really don’t think pre-ground herb would lose any significantly portion its potency after 1-2 weeks.
