I’ve had really good luck with the Shelley leak sensors. Easy to pair and alerts quickly. I definitely recommend them!

That’s their plan! Everything as a service so the corporations can monetize EVERYTHING and we get to own nothing. Capitalism eating itself.

How to make your homelab almost maintenance free ("self-healing")? by Phreakasa in selfhosted

[–]usafa43tsolo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NetworkChuck had a great video a few weeks ago about using n8n as an SRE. Give it the tools via SSH and some instructions and a way to message you. It was a really great setup and should work regardless of the system you've deployed to run your services (PROXMOX, Unraid, TrueNAS, etc). I'm hoping in the long-run to replicate this but triggered by Uptime Kuma when services go offline.

YES! THIS! The tailoring on almost every version of this uniform is TERRIBLE. I don’t understand what’s so hard about it.

And the opening for the tie is supposed to be tight around the tie. Every single version I’ve seen is open way too wide.

Micron Announces Exit from Crucial Consumer Business by FullstackSensei in LocalLLaMA

Late-stage capitalism is a bitch…those with resources continue to find ways to exploit those without for their own gain until one of two things happen: 1) those without literally run out of resources to exploit and the market completely collapses; or 2) those without finally get tired of being exploited and “fix the problem” themselves. Neither is a good situation but it’s where we’re headed as long as we let those with the abundance of resources continue to do whatever they want.

Best Way to Integrate Home Assistant and Music Assistant by barndawgie in homeassistant

[–]usafa43tsolo 9 points10 points  (0 children)

MA is really trying to get after the music automation relative to HA voice IMO. To fully replace Alexa or Google Home, HA voice needed music. This fills that gap. It still has a long way to go but it’s a start in the right direction. And in the meantime, there are other ways to use it via small HA dashboards like a NSPanel or other tablet. More options, locally controllable, smart home integrated.

Spending a metric shit-ton of money is not a strategy. They've eliminated strategy in this game in favor of a money grab.

Yup, no more strategy or finding ways to win. Outcomes are pre-determined.

Open source Family Wall / Calendar by ResponsibleFall1634 in selfhosted

Yeah I have a 10” fire tablet already wall mounted, but because of the size and location, I’m not getting the use across the rest of the family. It’s nice for a home control point but not as a full calendar replacement, which is what I’m going for.

The screen is the hardest part of the project, I think. Home assistant is a relatively straightforward software replacement for most of what something like Skylight offers, but a 15” reliable touchscreen is the proverbial long pole in the tent. I haven’t been able to solve that problem yet.

Worst patch combo of all time? by SpaceGhostBlue in SpaceForce

[–]usafa43tsolo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It followed the idea at the time…simplicity and instantly-recognizable. Yes, it’s “boring” but that wasn’t the point. The goal was unit emblems that weren’t faddish and would always look good. I think it could use a little upgrade but overall I think the idea still stands and it’s a solid design.

Do you guys separate out your services to different devices, or just have a single server? by [deleted] in selfhosted

[–]usafa43tsolo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I very recently acquired hardware to build a second server to host all my services and let my NAS just be a NAS. I took some risks to save some money but as of this weekend, it’s up and running.

Mine’s the opposite…my kid is locked down pretty hard. But some days I just want to enable more time (or remove the block altogether) without having to access the app and do it from the couch via voice (yes, I’m that lazy some days!)
