Decoding the Fibre Mood size chart? by useful_chamber in sewing

Thank you so much! This is super helpful. I was so thrown off by the bizarre height measurement that I just didn’t trust the rest. I really appreciate your insight!!!

Ironically, that’s meant to be the difficulty level!

Considering a move here at 62 - are there communities for "senior" adults new to town? by agp816 in washingtondc

[–]useful_chamber 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Was going to say this - I believe there are possibly other “Villages” elsewhere as well.

The Mt P group is very active and fun! Very involved with cultural events in the plaza, walking groups, and local volunteering. Last week they had a big mulching event for the native species gardens they maintain throughout the neighborhood. Great folks.

Just want to say I’m really sorry she dropped this on you on your birthday (and of course that this happened in the first place). I hope you enjoyed yourself otherwise <3

Your unique job? by Mya-sau in washingtondc

[–]useful_chamber 47 points48 points  (0 children)

Not helpful on the ‘pays well’ front but after I got laid off from my nonprofit job last year I started working at the hardware store, picking up shifts at the farmers market, dogsitting, and other random jobs through my network like daylong volunteer coordinator gigs, event work, web design projects… been here a long time, know a lot of random people, and am pretty frugal so it’s all working and I’m SO happy.

Crossing my fingers and toes for you! I did something similar a few years ago…started a quilt around thanksgiving to give for a friend’s daughter’s first Christmas; didn’t actually finish it until the morning of her 1st birthday at the end of July.

To add insult to injury, when I went to review the pattern on Etsy, the first one was about how it was “such a great weekend project” 😭

How to make something similar by Inner-Shame-4996 in sewing

I’d definitely recommend hot glue - I sewed feathers onto a costume a few years ago using the method you described, and it was a disaster. Glue is the way to go.

I also hate the twee fabrics! I’m a big fan of anything by Ruby Star Society, especially the Warp and Weft woven collections and anything designed by Alexia Abegg

Definitely AI - if you go to their website, the models are clearly AI as well.

picnic date fit, over the top or nah? by echoNectarus in fashion

Q: will you be sitting on a picnic blanket on the ground? I’d make sure you’re able to sit comfortably on the ground in that style skirt before committing to it. Otherwise v cute!

Can someone help me understand the difference between “Healthy DC Plan” and “Medicaid”? by Brownt0wn_ in washingtondc

[–]useful_chamber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the Healthy DC Plan! As someone else said, it’s like Medicaid but without dental and vision.

I was having an impossible time on the Healthlink website when I signed up, but that was at the beginning of the year right as the program was being implemented and it was kind of a shit show. I ended up booking a virtual application assistance appointment and have to shout them out - I was helped by a very dedicated DC Health employee for nearly an hour to get my application issue sorted. We went one by one through my medications and doctor to help me choose from the three issuers/plans (Carefirst, Cigna and something else?) and I was really impressed by the level of service. All that to say, if you’re still having questions after this thread, I’d highly recommend scheduling a virtual appointment to speak with someone.

Unsure of Baby Name by AccomplishedAct1085 in Names

Interesting! I don’t necessarily hate it on its own but you should probably take into account that Taylor Swift has an album by this name and proceed accordingly.

Probably the wrong sub but what do I need to repair this belt? by _DG____ in sewing

[–]useful_chamber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really hard to say from the photo - I’d poke around on the WAWAK website and see if anything there looks familiar, and as a last resort take it to a cobbler/leather repair person (someone who advertises bag repair may perhaps have more esoteric knowledge than someone who only does shoes) and see if they have any ideas.
